Part of the problem is that the media we question often leads the discussion in what should be considered a "lie", or the ethical limits of stretching the truth. Any news network that embraces the idea that facts are inevitably presented with bias so "it's OK if we do it, too" has, in my opinion, embraced a type of lie.
I just wish they hadn't singled out fox... This is stuff that cbs, abc, nbc, etc etc etc have done for years and years, with multiple examples to be seen, where as this case with fox news was a. a little different than he lays out in the video and b. not a frequently provable occurrence. EG they don't lie all the time, and it could easily be argued that they didn't lie in the case at hand either.
Word. Everything you know is wrong. Fox does have some sexy news anchors, though. Watch it on mute and they look like they're gonna start stripping! I'm leary of television because I know I'm not immune to the brainwashing and propaganda. Idk what to think about this dude either. Propagandists always scramble up truth and lies so that you can't sort it out.
the news network i watch is ABC, and they had a few commercials saying that they're unbiased and honest with their stories. while i'm glad that they're trying to make themselves sound like a good group, i still don't really trust their "honesty and unbiased" commercials.
@1ohtaf1 People pick on every network. But fox kindof sets themselves up when they trademark (trademark!!!) the phrase "fair and balanced". That's kindof a slap in the face to anybody who is annoyed or even mildly concerned with media bias.
"I watch television news for one thing and one thing only, entertainment. That's all I want from the news; entertainment. You know my favorite thing on television, BAD NEWS. Bad news and disasters and accidents and catastrophes. I'm not interested in the budget. I don't care about tax negotiations. I don't care what country the fuckin' pope is in. But if you show me a hospital on fire and people jumping off the roof and I'M A HAPPY GUY!!!" George Carlin
Neutrality is neither possible nor desirable. Should we be neutral between the torturer and the tortured? What does it mean to be neutral on a planet on which all life is threatened by industrial pollution? Should we be neutral between compassion on the one hand, and greed and violence on the other?
@redword2007 I think he means neutrality like Switzerland... Taking neither defensive nor offensive stance when presenting a news segment, simply presenting the facts.
Glen Beck is pretty good! He's the only news anchor I watch, mainly because he dosen't sugar coat everything of add to stories to make them more appealing.
If you want the news, look it up yourself. It's called the internet. Look at both sides of the coin and figure out where you stand because really, most of the news is bias towards either side of the isle.
@supermatt1985 I think it's pretty obvious he's using them as an example considering they are the most watched. As for other agencies being 10 times worse, thats laughable. Equally as bad I could agree with but it's obvious you are showing your bias which in a way is kind of ironic.
For me it would be the misquotes and bashing on Sarah Palin. You've heard about her saying that she could see Russia from her house, except that the quote came from an SNL skit. How about her shooting wolves from a helicopter? That is something made up in an editorial. The press bashed Palin for $150,000 clothes yet Obama's suits were each worth several thousand dollars he gets for free.Hillary's pant suits are worth $15,000 each which she gets for free.
Yes, but there are some true stories: She doesn't believe in evolution. She was not vetted before being selected as a running mate. She screwed up pretty much every unscripted interview she had during the campaign. Her teenage daughter was pregnant out of wedlock (not implying that is a bad thing - but Palin sure thought so by hiding it)
I mean, let's be honest. Governor of Alaska was an appropriate position for her. Vice President wasn't.
Joe Biden is a known drunk, believed he took sniper fire in Afghanistan (which he didn't and neither did Hillary Clinton take sniper fire in Bosnia) , can't describe his own district properly (including naming businsses that don't exist there) , told a guy in a wheel chair to stand up, and said the quote, "You cannot go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I'm not joking." Palin would have been a much better VP.
The difference between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin is that Biden is, as much as we may hate him, a politician, and Sarah Palin is "your average Jane". And after 8 years of rule by an average person, I think it's time some brains step in and get the job done. Let the record show, I think McCain is a smart man, quite possibly smarter than Obama (oh no, did he say that?!), but the chance of having a hockey mom from alaska ruling the country... I'll pass, thank you very much.
bill o reilly is a mad man speaking his personal opinion on things and teaches america just to SHUT UP.how can people like him live with them selfs. he is a real patriot......
If Fox is so biased why was Glenn Beck fired for speaking his mind on CNN? Simple, Glenn Beck is Conservative. CNN is filled with lefites, and no independence like Bill O'Reilly. There are some people who work for Fox who infact Liberal and a majority of their contributors are Liberal even tho Fox is a Conservative network. It's amazing how Fox has the most contributors, more than CNN and it's amazing that nobody contributes to them. Neither MSNBC, ABC, and so on. This is entirely what I know.
this is why you need at least four sources of news, so that you can check one with the others and form your own opinions on what is (hopefully) the truth
russianbear0027, there was never good journalism, even in the U.S. Everything from claiming the Spanish strip searching American passangers on boats (one of the bias things to help start the Spanish American War) to using explosives to prove that GM vehicles do blow up from being hit by the side. Oh and why would any U.S. care about remembering a shootout at The Alamo in what was then Mexico, except to maybe invade Mexico as some sort of revenge?
I remember that BGH story story. You know, right now Monsanto is fighting against Ben and Jerry's ice cream's right to put "rBGH free" on it's label because it implies there's something not healthy about using artificial, carcinogenic hormones to increase a cow's milk production. And no evidence has proven that (except for the studies run by anyone other than Monsanto).
Anyone remember Cooper Lawrence/Fox News vs. Mass Effect fans?
Later on Cooper admitted that she was basically told by FOX what to say a few minutes before it went live and that she hadn't actually done any research at all on what she was talking about. In return they would promote her book, a self-help book. Yea. Gotta love those self-help books. The authors really are helping themselves!
