I actually saw him play "Johnny 99" in Mansfield, MA with the full band. I've always loved those "Nebraska" songs played live on his "1975-1985" boxed set, but I have to admit they sound more bad assed with the band behind them
how deceptive, this is not the Tim Hardin song most people know, as Reason to Believe! Really! I think Springsteen is awesome, so was looking forward to an old favourite....very deceiving, rename it!!
mmmyeah well upbeat my ass, its the blues fool. face it you cannot seperate the political Bruce from this RnR -blues kick ass Bruce cause you have a dif. political view.its all good.
Nice. His best lyrics are really evocative...Perhaps the best song on "Nebraska". And he looks pretty cool stalking the stage with just his harmonica :-)
Its not whoever gets there first or vips that get to go in the pit. The day of the concert the ppl with floor tickets get wrist bands, each with its own number. A few hours before the concert starts they have a draw to see where the line to get onto the floor begins and a certain number of people starting after the number drawn get to go into the pit. After they're in they bring in the rest of the crowd, but none of them get to go in the pit. Make sense?
I know that I'll get bashed for this but...I despise this version. Somehow he has taken a masterpiece in linguistic and philosophical existentialism and made it about the instruments. The words and stark melancholy are lost in this cacophony. Bruce-you do not need to prove to us that you can rock, but teach me how to feel again. You once were the Steinbeck of our time. I miss you.
Its okay not to like this version...but this is a youtube comments board, not a term paper...you say you despise it, but you talk like your feelings are hurt because of it. get real.
God bless Bruce for the "pit" - after 30 years of seeing him from the rafters, my 15 year old daughter and i got not only in the pit, but right smack in front of the stage. Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I travelled from London England to see the Boss at Hamilton and it was a fantastic show, this song being the highlight for me.Can't wait for the Emirates Stadium London in May.
Was at the same concert. Turned to my wife and said after he did this song, like this, and thunder road (Which I have never seen live) "I can die now" LOL
man, the guy is amazing. Just when you think he can do no other versions of songs, he cranks out another incredible version! there is no one like Bruce and there never will be another like him!
the name of the record shop is mojo !!!they have a good few bruce dvds, they had a devils and dust one, the seeger sessions concert in st lukes church the tunnel of love express tour dvd too great shop!!!
i have this on dvd, im from ireland and theres a really old record shop in dublin where they sell bootleg dvds and just last thursday i got my hands on this, really good, also bought paris 85
Whats the name of the record shop, I've been to Dublin a couple times and there is one shop I can;t remember the name of that is amazing. I bought a bootleg Bruce CD there a few years ago.
fantastic very energy live i was runnig this song in bilbao few days agos and apoteosico el boss esta en un estado de gracia madurez maxime sobre el escenario
i think it's in D (fove notes up the principal one of the gitar - if the guitar play in A, blues harmonica play in D), but it's not important. u must fallow the note of your voice.
does anyone know what type of harmonica bruce uses, i am thinking of taking up harmonica playing so I can jam musically with my mates, does anyone know what key this is in as well??
The one he used during the The Ghost of Tom Joad tour was the MARINE BAND from Honner. I guess he uses the same one nowadays... I use them, and in my opinion the get the best sound for this kind of music...
Dude you should listen to Shake Your Hips or if we're being really fussy go check out Boogie Chillin by John Lee Hooker, which predates spirit in the sky by 20 years..

It's whoever gets there first.
bugattibowler 3 years ago
Its not VIPs. You just have to get there very early and queue!!! Its extremely tedious, but 100% worth it when you're only a metre away from the Boss.
Thanks Bruce for two fantastic nights at the Emirates; can't wait for Cardiff!!!!

And, interestingly, a ton of young people (early 20's) dancing and singing. And many parents with kids........beautiful
