  • I actually saw him play "Johnny 99" in Mansfield, MA with the full band. I've always loved those "Nebraska" songs played live on his "1975-1985" boxed set, but I have to admit they sound more bad assed with the band behind them

  • This songs should be about the 2011 Red Sox

  • to beautiful to be human....

    THE BOSS = THE GOD

  • i was at that concert :) it was my first springsteen concert ever. I was 9 years old. greatest concert ever.

  • He's the best in reinventing his own songs!!

  • check The Beat Farmers version @==--

  • Seeing this song performed live on the Magic tour gave me chills.

  • can you believe that this was on Nebraska!? FUCKING INSANE!!! he is the best.

  • how deceptive, this is not the Tim Hardin song most people know, as Reason to Believe! Really! I think Springsteen is awesome, so was looking forward to an old favourite....very deceiving, rename it!!

  • Powerful Song indeed

  • And some.

  • fucking great!

  • great song!! although i prefer the slower live version better...the 'Live 1975-'85' version...lol

  • te esperamos en Bilbo el 26 de julio!!!!!

  • Hell yeah you're right, "It goes into something"!!!

  • fucking class!

  • may second in greensboro

  • Such a powerful song...

  • bruce is number 1 live performer in the world end of story.....

  • i was at this show it was amazin

  • umm yeah man its upbeat the tempo is faster by umm well alot its supposed to be sad its a sad song

  • mmmyeah well upbeat my ass, its the blues fool. face it you cannot seperate the political Bruce from this RnR -blues kick ass Bruce cause you have a dif. political view.its all good.

  • This guy is unreal...

  • I have those live versions.

The whole album Nebraska is about sadness... not rock

Check my porfile for the real Reason to Believe where Bruce recorded it in the Motel.

The Real version is far much better guys!

  • best live BRUCE 4 LIFE

  • i just saw him last nite...it was amazing

  • amazing harp

    wow

  • wow

  • Nice. His best lyrics are really evocative...Perhaps the best song on "Nebraska". And he looks pretty cool stalking the stage with just his harmonica :-)

  • Its not whoever gets there first or vips that get to go in the pit. The day of the concert the ppl with floor tickets get wrist bands, each with its own number. A few hours before the concert starts they have a draw to see where the line to get onto the floor begins and a certain number of people starting after the number drawn get to go into the pit. After they're in they bring in the rest of the crowd, but none of them get to go in the pit. Make sense?

  • He rocks!! Amazing!! I'm gonna see him in three weeks!!! Can't wait!!! Seen him last December, too!!!

  • i went to the boston show and he did this and turned all the lights down it was so awsome

  • more like this at mybrucespringsteen

  • bp rarely does anything right imo!!

  • I know that I'll get bashed for this but...I despise this version. Somehow he has taken a masterpiece in linguistic and philosophical existentialism and made it about the instruments. The words and stark melancholy are lost in this cacophony. Bruce-you do not need to prove to us that you can rock, but teach me how to feel again. You once were the Steinbeck of our time. I miss you.

  • Yes, you will get bashed for this. but not from me...I just love this version....Peace nello7

  • Yes, you will get bashed for this. but not from me...I just love this version....Peace nello7

  • Couldn't agree more with Nello, The original version is one of my favorite Bruce song. Real simple and moody.

  • what the hell?

  • Its okay not to like this version...but this is a youtube comments board, not a term paper...you say you despise it, but you talk like your feelings are hurt because of it. get real.

  • God bless Bruce for the "pit" - after 30 years of seeing him from the rafters, my 15 year old daughter and i got not only in the pit, but right smack in front of the stage. Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It's whoever gets there first.

  • Its not VIPs. You just have to get there very early and queue!!! Its extremely tedious, but 100% worth it when you're only a metre away from the Boss.

Thanks Bruce for two fantastic nights at the Emirates; can't wait for Cardiff!!!!

  • i have this concert on dvd thanks to a very good record store in dublin, great concert and i cant wait to see him in dublin for the 3 nights

  • I travelled from London England to see the Boss at Hamilton and it was a fantastic show, this song being the highlight for me.Can't wait for the Emirates Stadium London in May.

  • I was at the show last Sunday in Montréal.

    One word... AMAZING!!!

    Vive le Boss !

  • I was at this show and the 2/28 hartford show (my first two Bruce shows)...simply amazing.

Thanks for posting this...the audio quality is great!

  • Was at the Hamilton, On. Canada show on march 3rd.......this song, and all the rest just blew everyone away......

And, interestingly, a ton of young people (early 20's) dancing and singing. And many parents with kids........beautiful

  • I was at that as well. What an amazing show!

  • I was at that as well. What an amazing show!

  • Was at the same concert. Turned to my wife and said after he did this song, like this, and thunder road (Which I have never seen live) "I can die now" LOL

  • AMAZING. Saw him play same version at Continental, and rocked it just as hard....

    Bruce is the best!

  • man, the guy is amazing. Just when you think he can do no other versions of songs, he cranks out another incredible version! there is no one like Bruce and there never will be another like him!

  • the name of the record shop is mojo !!!they have a good few bruce dvds, they had a devils and dust one, the seeger sessions concert in st lukes church the tunnel of love express tour dvd too great shop!!!

  • i have this on dvd, im from ireland and theres a really old record shop in dublin where they sell bootleg dvds and just last thursday i got my hands on this, really good, also bought paris 85

  • Whats the name of the record shop, I've been to Dublin a couple times and there is one shop I can;t remember the name of that is amazing. I bought a bootleg Bruce CD there a few years ago.

  • What a 'stud'...

  • the best song performance of the tour. (i was REALLY pissed it was the only song off "Nebraska", though.

  • Ca c'est du vrai rock'n roll,merci bruce.

  • outstanding version!

  • fantastic very energy live i was runnig this song in bilbao few days agos and apoteosico el boss esta en un estado de gracia madurez maxime sobre el escenario

  • does anyone know what key his harmonica is in?

  • i think it's in D (fove notes up the principal one of the gitar - if the guitar play in A, blues harmonica play in D), but it's not important. u must fallow the note of your voice.

i've saw your video of folsom prison, it's good

    bravo

    goes on

    luca from italy

  • Magico Bruce!!

    Let's rock!!

    E il 25 Giugno 2008 tutti a San Siro!!!!

  • does anyone know what type of harmonica bruce uses, i am thinking of taking up harmonica playing so I can jam musically with my mates, does anyone know what key this is in as well??

  • The one he used during the The Ghost of Tom Joad tour was the MARINE BAND from Honner. I guess he uses the same one nowadays... I use them, and in my opinion the get the best sound for this kind of music...

    Hope this helps...

    Jqn

  • Saw Bruce in cleveland and detroit....This rocked.....is anyone alive out there????

  • i envy you people..who have been to boss's gigs...u lucky..lucky bastards!!:P

  • been to his gig in Motor City

    This one rocked the house

  • don't listen to kbot his knowledge pales in comparison to my vast amount stored in my vault-sized cranium

  • dont listen to orkburger he doesnt have any knowledge of anything

  • don't listen to kbot he's a gay

  • the song in the beginning is not ZZ top but Spirit in the Sky by Norman Greenbaum

  • Dude you should listen to Shake Your Hips or if we're being really fussy go check out Boogie Chillin by John Lee Hooker, which predates spirit in the sky by 20 years..

  • I think Markmw99 has a great point. The first thing I thought of was Slim Harpo's "shake your hips" but I also admit to feeling a not-so-gentle slap of ZZ Top's "La Grange."

  • It's a boogie.. ZZ Top, Canned Heat, John Lee Hooker all did 'em

    Norman Greenbaum? haha

  • Saw him at United Center last week. This was a definite highlight. The crowd ate it up.

  • I just saw him play this in Oakland last night....almost thought it was Bad to the Bone at First....... Truly amazing!!!!

  • Was there that night! Thought it was a ZZ Top cover at first. One of the best re-workings of a Bruce song ever!

  • Very "Dylan-esque". Great Job. LOVE the Original, too.

My sister saw Bruce in Chicago. I guess He's still "The Boss".

  • After 27 years, this song have changed its way thousand times!!! MAGIC Bruce!!!

  • Love it!!

  • You'll never see something as awesome as this.

  • fucking amazing !!!
