ok two things, this is my first time ever listening to anything from in the heights. one) this is not what iwould call my type of music, let alone musical, i am more into the sondheim and hammerstein type stuff, but i am blown away i did not think that a rap musical would work but i love this stuff.
two) this is very amazing, fro some reason i keep on thinking about west side story, which is a good thing cuz i think this might have as much immortality as WWS or gypsy or South Pacific or RENT.
@KyleOgilvie1 Interesting how musical theater has evolved in the 50-60 years since West Side Story, South Pacific, and Gypsy. And though it pains me to point this out, RENT is almost 20.
@drpushkin even the change from West Side Story, which is alot more classical type music, and Gypsy, which is more big band. the moral of the story, change is for the better, even though classics are for ever.
We notice you're gone (from Broadway), In The Heights and we will love you forever and miss you always! Thank you so much for everything you've done for me, your inspiration and keeping me going and believing dreams come true.
How can they close this show?!!! A show that is greater than West Side Story, with a great sterotypes for a change, where a neighborhood actually CARES for everyone! I pray they make the movie version soon and Hollywood doesn't screw it up!
I saw them in Puerto Rico and I almost couldn't stop shouting and screaming!!! it was my first ever Broadway show but out of Broadway and I was amazed, mesmerized, ok ok I cried!!! AMAZING!!
i went to go see this and it was so good like i really would like to see it again it was so good and i got the chillz when they sang this and when this girls dad was singing that he didnt want to turn into his dad and that he was sad he didnt have any money to give his daugheter to go to college and i stared to cry it was so sad
Ufff! es inevitable no emocionarse o hasta llorar al escuchar esta cancion... El sentimiento que le pone es demasiado.. Se nota que se lo vive... Es algo WOW! ...
This song NEVER fails to bring me to tears! I thank God for this show. Lin-Manuel, you are genius. Your cast is genius. And I can't wait to witness the GENIUS TO COME! :) Many blessings.
He escuchado esta canción más de 20 veces y no me canso! Ya estoy ansioso de que venga In The Heights para Puerto Rico! I love this song and I love this musical!!!
..take a train to the top of the world and I'm there..
I was so happy for Usnavi during this part, I cried. I will never ever forget experiencing this on broadway, It was a beautiful and inspiring show, I don't think the chills I got when I sat there watching have ever gone away..
Did anyone else notice that the song on the record in the show skips on the word "forever" as if that word goes on forever and that Usnavi is going to stay home forever. Great writing indeed!!
@TheSpartansvselites Ya it is "Hydrant is a beach" and it is "and if not me who keeps our legacies", "if you close your eyes..." "and I can say goodbye to you smilin'" : There are a couple more one word mistakes but it's not a big deal. You should get the In The Heights album because it has all of the songs, the lyrics, and the summary of what is going on in the play!
This is one of the most haunting finales. Maybe haunting is the wrong word, but it definitely stays with me long after it's over. If it wasn't for this recording, I'd be spending all my money just rewatching the show for this. It's perfect
This song made me cry D; I love In The Heights and I will beg Lin-Manuel himself if he ever decides not to come back at least once because he's the only man for the role. . .he IS Usnavi
I know right? I got to go on stage after the show because i'm a friend of a friend of one of the actress in new york. if you get close enough to it it really looks like the actress, so she jokes she'll never lose her job because no one else could look so much like it.
Holy God- I've been a theater nut for ten years and every time I saw this soundtrack in stores I always skipped over it, thinking it prolly isn't that good. THIS SHOW BLOWS ME AWAY!!! :)))
Wish I could actually see this,if the clips on Youtube are anything to go by then I simply cannot miss this. Just gotta get to America! Lin is a genius :D
@babygurl088 i cant wait to see it! i love rent. will always be one of my faves! both rent and ITH are unique, have a message and are beautiful in their own way. ITH reaches close to home, very close. it tells the story of my family, of the community im part of.
You all do know that this musical was originally a highschool or college paper he had to right. And he turned it all into a musical. He was the director of this musical from all points of view. So if you think about it, the parts about his abuela aren't weird at all. If it was a paper it could have easily been a subject that could have involved his grandmother. So don't say its weird. I think it is an incrdible musical with incredible soundtrack.
i cried when this song came on... not when the thing with abuela happened.... that is weird. Well I cried more with this song than abuela dying. I love this song!
My sister lives in NY and I visited for the first time this summer. She wanted to take me to this show and I really didn't want to go, but we got some obstructed-views and we went. I am a choir teacher and long time musician and can say that I have not felt that much passion since the first time I saw RENT live and I was so attracted to this musical afterward that I am sure I will see it numerous times. Some really great writing, use of comedy/pain/real life, and amazing passionin the music. WOW
I really hope the movie they are making does justice to this amazing musical. I also hope they keep Lin-Manuel Miranda as Usnavi, it would not be the same without him.
this song and the whole album is so amazing, the way everything is so deep, u can tell was written from the heart. thank u, lin miranda for giving the world this musical!
Everytime I hear this song I cry, and it always starts when carla and daniella sing "the hydrants are open, cool breezes blow..." Something about the way they sing that just makes me cry so hard, the melody is so sad but the words are inspirational. Love this show...it's gonna be legendary I can feel it...
if you guys watch the "In the heights - recording session" video, Lin Miranda almost breaks into tears while performing this for the cast album, that is how emotional it is for him.
Omigood. Every time I listen to this it gives me chills! I love Lin Manuel Miranda and his "I'm home." He puts so much beauty and emotion into this song.
Think about it. Power's out. No alarms, phones are down, street lights are off, etc. Everyone's robbing people and shooting and taking advantage of the dark. In some places blackouts can be very dangerous
Must've been an off night, both times I saw it she was impeccable. It's tough getting as emphatic as that role demands while maintaining proper pitch.
yeah that is true... everyone did amazing though. i really enjoyed Carla. Not only is she gorgeous, but she messed up on a line and Daniela called her out on it. Great Improv, and the crowd roared! this show was by far the best one i've ever seen in my entire life.
OMG!! i saw this musical like a week ago, but not with Lin and loved it..the guy who played Usnavi did such a good job.. even his shirt was like soaked in sweat lol. this is the best musical i have ever seen.. and i relate to it a bit so that was a plus!
my chorus is going 2 NY for a music festival and i told my director that if we don't see this show while were there then im not going at all!! ive calmed down a little since then but only because Lin isnt going to be with the cast while were in NY and i refuse 2 see the show if he isnt in it :(
words don't explain..i'm seeing it for the 3rd time this feb...i got to meet the whold cast with my camp, camp broadway! and one of the swings taught us a dance..!
i love this show i love this show i love this show i love this show!!! ive seen it 3 times to count, and i CANT GET ENOUGH (I'm a critic, i can't stand most of what i see). I absolutely LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!
This was my first broadway show and i saw it on monday!!! It was amazing!!!! You think the songs are good but once u see it on that stage its something else, i got a picture and autograph with all the leads. Lin Manual was sooooooooo sweet and i WILL see this show again before i die!!!
Man, sorry for commenting again, but... I get chills at the last few verses. Just how passionately Usnavi sings those verses is just so amazing... ugh.
Man, I wish I could go to New York and see this... it seems amazing. But hey, if they follow with that plan to make this a movie, I can just see that! :D
This makes me so sad listening to it. Knowing that its closed now. Such a great song and show.

I love the part at the end where he says:
And let me get the record straight
I'm stepping to Vanessa
I'm gettin' the 2nd date
I'm home!
Always makes me smile.

Man, sorry for commenting again, but... I get chills at the last few verses. Just how passionately Usnavi sings those verses is just so amazing... ugh.
