  • I think this must have been 1976 or 77 because Lester was pretty bad off in 1977 .At that time in 77 I played Dobro with a gospel group called the Boyd Bros. and we played 2 of Lester's festivals . One at his place near Pilot Mountain N.C. and the other at Kings Mountain. Both places they wheeled Lester out on Stage to speak to the fans and he would strum is guitar on a song or to and then go back to the bus.Never cared to much for Marty till he got older. Met him and J. Douglas there

  • . . . this is an excellent shot from my bluegrass favorites - thank's for posting ! ! !

  • The great Marty Stuart is coming to the Watseka theatre Watseka Illinois on Saturday July 2, 2011.

  • MARTYS WEARIN A HAT!!!

  • hell yes

  • Pick it Big Kenny!

  • Sing it marty!! I like the hell of this guy hes hummble soul. nice job

  • Thanks for posting this is the history of great music........

  • Thanks for posting this wonderful song.

  • i love bluegrass mandolin, banjo and guitar :) but the singin................... same thing with metal music.

  • Kenny Ingram is really a great banjo player and had a huge part in Rhonda Vincent's popularity. Her switch to a scruggs style player really changed her sound for the better and Kenny was a great choice!

  • Marty doesn't look too happy covering up his hairdoo. those other hillbillies made him tho obviously

  • 46r11: He sure has sold a lot of records and topped the charts before to be needing an invite to a show. Maybe when you saw him wherever it was that you saw him you weren't at your best. The best is on stage performing, not in the audience looking. Think about that and how YOU bought a ticket to HIS show. 'Nuff said.

  • I think Marty is 6th on the all time list as a matter of fact.

    1) Hank Williams Jr.

    2) Conway Twitty

    3) George Jones

    4) Alan Jackson

    5) Travis Tritt

    6) Marty Stuart

To be honest he may need a haircut but he is grown up. My wife loves his hair and how he dresses. I cannot fault someone so talented because he likes his hair a little long. He keeps it looking its best. He has his on TV show on RFD. Watch it and you will see he is all grown up.

  • honestly i would put stuart at number 2 on that list, just on the breadth of his talents alone. i think hes a better songwriter than 2-5 as well.

  • LOL....Mac Wiseman and Marty Robbins are very good singers indeed. Eddy Arnold and Sonny James though?? Both of them are like Willie Nelson. Had some hits and a following but never could sing. Marty is true talent and rings in at #6 all time as stated earlier. Sad to see you have such poor judgement and you have a tone deaf problem. That has nothing to do with a sense of humor though.. It is just your singular opinion, however flawed it may be. Good Day.

  • Willie cann't buy and sell anyone lol. You paid to see Marty wherever it was you saw him, so he must have been good enough to get YOUR money. There are always going to be naysayers and then some who jump on board to ride the wagon. Perhaps you are stuck in the 60's with all those mostly boring acts like Eddy Arnold. LOL Marty has his own TV show that his wife comes on. You don't sell records like Marty and have a TV show if you ain't that good. Again, #6 all time greatest as stated earlier.

  • Jim Reeves? LOL Time Life likes him but as far as being one of the greatest..c'mon. Like I stated earlier Marty is #6. That means he comes in #6 behind the top 5. That is a clear statement. Your numerous replies inserting different boring names from the sixties doesn't change it up. LOL...buy a Time Life boring CD set of all those sixties "stars" you like and have at it. The rest of us will keep on living in the real world. OBTW..best from the sixties is Patsy Cline. Have a nice life, ok.

  • LOLOLOL... You are #7. Always room for funny comedians. Have a nice life and say no to crack. Get off the "stuff" and you can become a normal person too. But, you won't be as funny though. I guess you have to weigh your options when it comes to the crack. Bye now. That means conversation over just in case you are on a crack high and just don't understand normal "stuff." LOLOL BYE BYE #7.

  • LOL....the comedian coming out again. You must have a joke book there with you, old man. Now just think about it.....ur 71 and saying you can play guitar and sing. C'mon old man! We know ur hands are too brittle to pick and your voice to weak to sing. If you would get off the crack then you might be able to remain at #7 with the joke book you got. I am glad I got to chat w/you before you died of old age. 71, on youtube, and still doing crack..LOL See 'ya..if you don't die of old age first.

  • Well sir, when you make your comments about boozing and smoking stuff 2 me I guess that is ok then right? FYI..I don't smoke anything..never ever have. I don't booze either. You have been swaying over into the unflattering area so I just accomodated you with a repel of your comments. Yours comments aren't true but you are 71, so that is not a mistatement.. Don't make untrue comments to me because you don't like the facts and not expect a retaliation. See 'ya, old man.

    Marty is still #6

  • Comment removed

  • You just don't get the hint do you? You don't know when to shut up. I guess dimentia is running rampant in some 71 year olds. Not only are you a comedian but you are now Super Picker....The Old Man of Steel. LOL...I don't think Marty has anything to worry about. He is not the one who is 71 and on youtube tooting his own horn because no one else will toot it for him. He is selling records and hosting TV programs. Thanks for the jokes. Bye #7 lol That means conversation over.

    Marty's still #6

  • Nice to have met you, byeeeeeeeeeee

  • @LT1HILLINGHOE I missed his comment, but if you take away all the singers and pickers in history who have smoked "stuff" or boozed, well, you'd hardly have anyone left. Every kind of music has its demons. Country owes booze big time since so many tunes were written about drinking and honky tonks. Take it away and you for sure lose Hank Sr. There's most of country music history and popularity right there. Bluegrass had its own boozers I'm sure. Bluegrass-country folk-moonshine connect the dots!

  • @rockinredneck57 Ummm.....the person I was commenting to back and forth has erased all of his comments for point #1 so you can never know the context of the conversation. Point #2 The comments are over 6 months old. Point #3 Thanks for stating the obvious, Sherlock. Hope you didn't have to wake up Watson on that comment.

Anymore replies from someone who was not part of the original convo and who has no idea what the original convo was even about?

  • @LT1HILLINGHOE Point #4, you don't have to be a smartass about it, but you did anyway. Way to state the obvious there. Better to keep your mouth shut and have folks wonder if you're a smartass than to open it and remove all doubt.

  • @rockinredneck57 So ur now a spokesperson for the Tube folks, huh? LOL..stick to what you do best, Skippy...sitting around making ignorant replies on Tube to 6 month old comments you know nothing about. And then when someone hurts your little old feelings in a reply, putting urself into a position of speaking for the folks and then an authority figure on YouTube etiquette. LOL @ the clown who pats himself on the back for being a dumbass. You can call that point #5.

    Anything else Clown?

  • @LT1HILLINGHOE Sure. What differe4nce does it make if it's 6 months of 6 years old? It's on here, if I want to comment on it, I can. If you don't like it, take it down. Plain and simple. But nothing is plain and simple for you, except your life, obviously because you have nothing better to do but attempt to put down other folks. Notice I said attempt. You're not very good at it you know. So, yeah. I got time. All the time I need, Bozo. I'd say have a nice day, but I really wouldn't mean it.

  • @rockinredneck57 Now ur the "Plain and simple" YouTube directions giver on taking down or leaving up 6 month old comments. U like to self promote in a hurry. YouTube must be a big part of ur unplain and unsimple life lol. You should attempt to buy a violin to go with those tears. Notice I said attempt. You're not very good at it with no job and ur unplain and unsimple life. I would say I'd lend you the money, but I really wouldn't mean it.

  • Ever notice how men are so jealous of another man with hair??? And they call women jealous!!!

  • I have seen Marty many times, too many to even count. He is always wonderful. A master musician, great singer and a fabulous human being. He always defends, promotes and honors country music. He deserves better than some casual remark that paints his whole career as bad.

  • very nice.

  • Well Asshole You go get YOUR OWN TV Show like Marty has then make your smart assed comments, and how many # 1 hits have YOU HAD?.Seems the ONLY thing you know how to do is RUN Your MOUTH!

  • Comment removed

  • Most of us have.... and by the way... this is a LIVE recording. You have proved yourself a fool.

  • 46r11: I have seen Marty in person and it was a real treat. He is a down to earth nice guy. There is nothing fake about him and he is one of the greatest. I bet if you called him up and invited him over for supper he would probably show up with a covered dish. That is the kind of person he seems to be. You have the problem of not recognizing REAL talent.

  • oh is that why lester flatt is not in this song film. because he only done have the show.

  • Wow... pretty. Look at his lashes.

  • Back before Marty Stuart got that ridiculous hair of his

  • Actually, Paul Warren passed away in 78, a year before Lester, so 76 is probably right.

  • Lester always said "Now here's Paul Warren on the ole fiddle"! Good to see all of these great people

  • Love Marty Stuart and wasn't he a cutie when he was on this video? Thanks for giving us this video.

  • yes he sure was

  • Man dont get no better bluegrass than Mr. Flatt". Way To Marty-O. That dudes flat good. Love his new Marty Stuart Show on RFDTV also. Ga. flat top picker".

  • This is after Flatt died I believe, and it became Curly Seckler and the Nashville Grass.

  • Lester died in 1979.

As the uploader said in an earlier comment, "Kenny Ingram said that Lester only played part of the show back then".

  • Marty is one of the greatest singers ever to go along with his picking. Just plain down to Earth good.

  • @LT1HILLINGHOE Marty a singer?? my God man what world do you live in. He's ranked 70th overall by the CMA. He can sure play but he should leave the singing to someone else

  • @46r11 You tell 'em, retard.

  • @LT1HILLINGHOE Truth hurts , he should leave the singing to his wife, he would fit right in at Joe's bar and Grill.

  • @46r11 The CMA is a bunch of dumbasses. I would rank them no. 1 in cluelessness.

  • Does anyone else know who the other players are? Fiddle, Bass and Dobro?

  • The fiddler is the late Paul Warren.

  • Kenny Ingram on Banjo.

  • Paul Warren - Fiddle, Kenny Ingram - Banjo, Curly Seckler - Guitar, Marty Stuart - Mandolin, Charlie Nixon - Dobro, and Jack Hicks (or Pete Corum) - Bass.

  • @brandonmuir Paul warren-fiddle. charlie nixon-dobro and jack hicks-bass

  • ok now i understand. thanks rounder0004

  • Marty Stuart is such a talent and he sure grew up to be a hunk!

  • curly took over after flatt died for nashville grass

  • this is 1980 because lester flatt died in 1979

  • Kenny Ingram is actually the one that dated this video after I posted it on the Banjo Hangout and he said that this was in 1976. He said that Lester only played part of the show back then, and he also dated it by who was playing the doghouse bass. I remember taping it around 1981 off of the local PBS station, and just recently pulled it off of that to DVD, and then posted it here.

  • @Rounder0044 I have this on DVD....lester is there and in the background. I have talked to kenny in person and was told this was 1976 and he remembered the exact banjo he was playing........style 3 conversion....You are right Rounder

  • @Rounder0044 Well Kenny should be about on... Cause Paul Warren is on fiddle and he died Jan 12th 1978. but stopped playing in 1977 because of bad health.

  • @bluegrassgreat776 love seeing marty stewert so young again

  • this is 1980 because lester flatt died in 1979

  • Oh lordy, this is wonderful. Awesome great singing and picking!

  • How about that Curly Seckler harmony. Modern singers could learn a lot from the drive and simplicity of this singing. Excelent video !!

  • Truer words were never spoken. He is HIGHLY underrated. One of my idols.

This could be my current favorite YouTube video! Listen to Big K driving the 5!!

  • This is precious. Marty is so so cute!!

  • and don't forget a very young Marty Suart

  • It's good to hear what recalls me of Lester Flatt (one of the guys that created the bluegrass sound).

Kenny Ingram is the best bluegrass banjo player, he plays just right !!!

  • Kenny Ingram getting a killer tone out of his old 00 gibson pot!

  • Amen to that!

  • Sounds Real good, don't it ?!?!

  • Nashville Grass rules! The best!

  • This is the stuff we should be able to hear on the radio today.I hope that he will make a new cd to show that he is still as good as ever.
