  • Great!!. I´m wondering...The pipa must be played by women?

  • why would you think that pipa is played by women? from my standpoint, no musical instrument can be "gendered". its a big assumption and causes some debates. but if you look, pipa has many male masters and the best pipa makers are male.

  • Hmm... The pipa really has no "gender specification", but you could say it's just preffered by women as musicians. Such as in my school, almost the entire flute section are composed of female students, but that doesn't mean it's only for he girls.

Maybe it's because of the delicate and thin fingers that are needed to play the pipa :S I dunno, just a guess

  • I was wondering if the pipa was mostly played by women too. I think the Japanese koto was played by women of the nobility class in ancient times. Maybe it isn't that way now but I don't remember seeing any men play pipa or koto.

  • In fact, there are instruments that are "gendeed" as fobbyce put it. In Bolivia there are "toyos", a row of huge flutes (as a "rondador" but a lot bigger) that are `played only by men. My first question about the pipa was due to my ignorance. The pipa is new for me.

  • If you search through youtube, there are male players lie Yu Liangmo and more. However, the majority are women. Like Liu Fang and the sort.

  • -_-!,actually,from the acient time to nowaways, many great master of this instrument are men!

  • Female masters are more than male NOW.

  • @echever7 most

  • ¡¡Genial!!

  • sound like "999 rose" cum "dream of the red chamber", something sad & happy happened one by one, there was a revolution here...the end is??

  • you are right. My mum always says that "999 roses" copied this piece.

  • i love it. i've listened to this about a billion times now.

  • Love the addition of the percussion to the piece!

  • one of the best renditions I have heard for this piece so far.

  • so beautiful...
