I miss those Disney Half Time shows, the concerts are cool but I see shows just as good and they last for more then an hour. The Super Bowl is just another concert, the Disney shows were special.
Disneyfan is right. They didn't use the Bode 7702 Vocoder voice until 1979. That was when Don Dorsey suggested that they have a computerized voice to start the parade.
Did they not have permission to use the vocoder part that usually plays at the beginning of these parades? There is usually a robotic sounding voice that announces it.
Thanks for posting this. I was in the Coral Gables Senior High School Band of Distinction. We put all the light frames on the field and drove the golf carts around in the dark--without an accident. Pretty amazing considering we all learned to drive in Miami. What an awesome memory.
@Disneydanny I would like the original floats from hong kong to come back to wdw with the original score. the MSEP performing right now at WDW is good, but im not a fan of the new music score, im ok with tinkerbell but the blue fairy would be better
Hellow again I would like to thank you for putting this on youtube. Dan McNamara the Executive Director was my uncle. This was one of his proudest show. Although you don't see it there were a few glitches in this show. I can remember him fussing, but I think it was one of his favorites. I know it was mine. My uncle passed in 2000, but I know he would love to have seen this. It keeps the Orange Bowl memory alive. Thank you so much.
I am a huge fan of the Electrical Parade, and I did notice the glitches. lol. That didn't matter though. This was a GREAT show! I was very impressed. I thought that I had seen/heard it all as far as the Electrical Parade goes, but seeing what they did with the music and the floats was very inspiring. I was only born in 1986, so did not get to watch this on telelvision live. This is a real treasure.
I simply MUST say how absolutely fantastic this is! I've always heard about this show, but to actually be able to see it in its entirety is phenominal! This is where they got the idea for the opening announcement, although here it is not put through the vocoder. I love how they used the Fanfare of Lights to lead into the main theme. I didn't know you could do that. Awesome video!
In case anyone wonders, this is the Orange Bowl where Arkansas beat Oklahoma 31-6.

Still my favorite Orange Bowl Halftime. I was 10 at the time and it was the coolest thing I had ever seen.

@tubemaster2703 I read somewhere that this was before they had the computerized voice. It was introduced in 1979. And this was in '78.

I remember this well -was 9 years old. No 'wardrobe malfunctions' like today's dreadful half time shows. This is grand!!!!!!!!

My parents were there in 1978! My mom says she remembers them handing out those sparkly things for the audience to hold during the half time show.

Unfortunately the Orange Bowl was demolished last year to create a new stadium for the Florida Marlin's Baseball team

if they ever DID do it again it'd be Disneyland's floats that would be used (unless they get the Florida floats back from Hong Kong
Disneydanny 2 years ago 2
@Disneydanny No, CA's parade has now gone to Florida itself. Go figure.

Man, that music used for "Pete's Dragon" is absolutely nothing like how you hear it in the parade today!

It isn't, except for part of the first loop, but I LOVE listening to it! It is so cool!
