Geddy uses very very light strings and he plucks a lot to give it dat sound. The bass have a very nice sound, I have one and it is awesome. I use the lightest strings I can find, I don't know what brand Geddy used. But I do know they are very light. And too much bass don't help either, take some of dat bass out. And drop dat strap a hair and tilt dat neck up some, dat bass is not an armrest, lol! Dat's what my teacher told me, lol!

ur never fully in the shot. cant see where ur at on the fret board. but it sounds great. easy song to play but well loved and well received by an audience. stay down bra!!!!!!!!!

Dude, get your arm off the top of the bass...your string transitions will be much smoother...not bad, though.

Of course you can do what you want, but Sting's sound has definitely more growl.

If you want it exactly like Sting played it that one time in the studio back in 1979, you're better off just getting the album out and slappin' it on your turntable or CD player. I doubt even Sting plays it exactly the same every time.

Yes.. I do in fact care about accuracy. Please do not get me wrong in this regard.. however, I noticed live , Sting plays this one so loosely, that if I mirrored what he does lately, it would not be "correct.." It's a deceiving song, for me, to play. The timing, to me, is awkward. Sting is brilliant, that's all there is to it. The entire band is brilliant, for that matter.

Oh yeah, I know, don't misunderstand me either, I love nailing a cover too and I know what you mean about the timing in the song as well...

It's just when folks tell you your rendition is "wrong", that's when I wanna hear their perfect take, heh heh. :-P

Sting and the Police are great in my opinion too.

Hi guys - finally got all the gubbins needed to do this. I didn't mean to sound overly critical, but I just found your version so totally different from what I was hearing. Anyway, this is my less-than-perfect take. It's my first attempt at recording myself on vid, and done late at night so I wasn't able to really get in the groove. Unfortunately the sound is a little out of sync with the vision - I'll have to experiment a bit more. PS: I want a talking cat just like yours... very cute!

I think Sting must have simplified it for live gigs and that's become the official version. Even this seems to give him some trouble - he's a bit sloppy on most of the live vids I've watched. I was lead singer/bass player for a while so I know it's a bit like patting your head and rubbing your stomach at the same time :) Have you seen the Wii guitar hero vid at /watch?v=-lMYHdxsca0

I listened to both of your versions, and actually neither one is perfectly accurate with the original.

Some notes are wrong and the groove isn't quite there (it's not quite an easy groove though!). Both are good attempts, no offense intended. :)
