But to the extent that it extorted money from the Dhimmah and it declined, in order to sustain themselves the Dhimmis converted to Islam to save themselves. So you are correct. Let me suggest to you that simply making an assertion that the 9/11 terrorists are "un-Islamic" is not an argument. You have to prove your assertion with proper Quranic exegesis, which takes into account the Quran's historical & literary context.

@YahyaSnow: It is not enough to quote a "big name" scholar. If you are writing theological papers or engaging in theological debates, giving the names of "big name" scholars is not an argument. When I was in seminary writing my papers, simply saying that certain scholars support my position would not give me marks. As a theologian, I need to properly demonstrate exegetically that my theological position is correct, as well as expose the theological inconsistencies in opposing positions.

I hope to see something substantial being argued against interpretations like Hasan's. Unfortunately, all I've been hearing is simply "Islam is a religion of peace" from Muslims like you and CAIR, without exegetically engaging with the Quranic texts in depth. If you're so certain of your theological position, perhaps you would not mind debating those folks at RevolutionMuslim & Islamic Thinkers Society? So far, I've not seen such debates. It should be quite interesting to watch.
