Great video, thank you. Very seriously made. I have the same tea pot, its a good one and I use it alot. I ordered a poncho, cant wait to use it as shelter as you show.
when i see a camp site like this my 1st thought is to be able to see far and somehow going up in the trees to scout out a longer distance. im sure there should be a way to make rope steps up a tree some how easily
@ncbookz Checkout "Arboriculture / Arborist". They use ropes to reach high into trees. The profession is setup whereby you gain your professional certs by teaching others. Can probably find someone teaching and spreading the skills in your area.
Great video. Tried the poncho setup but didn't quite look the same. I'm trying to figure out the symmetry of how you peg down the poncho. Although maybe the dimensions of your poncho are different to mine?
@mattyherbert31 it's a modified lean-to: 2 corners back+low, 1 corner front+high, 1 corner front+low (instead of high, as in the "classic" lean-to). the different appearance might be due to differences in dimensions or in height of the front high corner (i tie it high enough to give me enough room to sit confortably under it, but in bad weather i tie it lower).
Your video related to me the peaceful experience of a nice time in the woods. I liked it very much. I wonder, as I watched you fan your fire, the ashes appeared to fly around. With all those dried leaves so close to you, is there any danger of causing a forest fire?
@dunfamalb not really, because the white ash that covers the coals is not hot enough to ignite anything... however, accidents can happen, so one must be aware of that possibility.
Consider adding a child's inflatable swimming pool mattress to your gear. They cost next to nothing, weigh little and are useful even if they do go flat, They can add enormously to your warmth and comfort.
Really, really enjoy your videos. Your approach and delivery come from a (perhaps) hidden talent. Look forward to many more videos on the wealth of knowledge you posses. Particularly, to start with, a detail video of what you typically carry on a day trip as well as an overnight/extended trip. We can piece a list together by what's in your video but specifics would certainly be a bonus for all IMO.
@MrMedeam thank you! i fully intend to do a series of fishing-related vids (how to catch and how to cook fish), i'm just waiting for the right weather.
@munch2006uk the silver pad isn't a car window screen but it's the same material (it's used as insulator under the floor). the white pad is the plastic that my tv set came wrapped in.
no, this was not an overnight (at the end of the vid you can see the place after i broke the camp, but my camera lost the sound). if i was to spend the night i would have need a bigger fire (and, consequently, a lot of firewood) and (maybe) better insulation from the ground (my thermarest pad or a log bed).
I love the wooded area you have to hike in. Looks like a very peaceful place to spend the day and enjoy nature. I was happy coming along with you and enjoying your fire.
ive got a prob how do u prevent tresspassers on your land other than sighns last night some guy used a spot lit eon me to night in a row this has happened i was just trying to lay in my hammock very scary and im eleven now ive had to start taking a gun in my back yard with me ive got a dog to reply soon plz grady
great vid. thank you for posting it. i like the teapot, i have one very much like it. i use the same method of heating it with two logs as you did. it keeps all the heat in a small spot. looks a great bit of woodland there.
@JaKeth3snake It's awful isn't it. I've seen the area I grew up hunting in, get destroyed for houses. They call them "developers" but really they're 'destroyers for money'.
Really enjoyed this video! Nice to see bushcrafting done around the world. And no matter where you are, there is the familiar teapot, the folding cup, the hot chocolate! I like the set up you did with the poncho. Can't say I've seen that configuration before. And I agree with the other poster about your method of getting the flames up--great idea! Looks silly, but sure does the job--and who can argue with that?! Thanks for posting this. I subscribed and added you as a friend, too.
@Urbanwild1 thank you for taking time to comment and for the subscription, too... indeed, the bushcraft is the same all over the world - or at least its principles are.
I always said that when people were starting fires they should have one of those personal fans but you have made a plate work as a fan. Also the kettle is perfect it can store things inside till you use it. I see how useful a kettle is at home in cutting down the time it takes to boil now I have to include one in my kit. Great video really enjoyed your minimalists approach to a night in the woods That pack can easily fit in almost any car and serve to save you if you have to go it in the bush.
@cdltpx the plate works great! in summer i also use my straw hat as a fan. the kettle is one of my favourites pieces of gear, and indeed i use it to store the folding cup and the "goodie bag" (tea, hot chocolate, instant coffe, salt, pepper etc.). for an overnight i would bring the wool blanket (in addition to the fleece poncho that is allways with me) and maybe the thermarest pad (the blanket+pad are not mandatory if you know what you are doing, but are significantly increasing the confort).
nice one! a beautiful day indeed! Lucky to be so, though: had it been rainy, the best shelter you culd've had would have been the poncho, but fitted cozy around you -as it was designed :)) sorry I couldn't join u this time! :(
@318laki thank you for the invitation! you have a great channel, too - i subbed (even if i understand only a very very very basic and rudimentary serbian i understand the universal language of bushcraft).
@johnnycif2010 thank you! yes, it's still difficult for me to film when i'm alone, but i learn fast... yesterday i learned that i absolutely need more batteries for my camera! :) (i ended up - again - filming with my phone...)
@jolietjake1970 i prefer the tarp (because it is bigger and sturdier - which is a plus in bad weather) but the poncho makes a good shelter, too (and packs smaller and lighter than the tarp).
@bushcraftmyway i could see that... you are making very nice videos you should make more in the future and please make a review of the knife that you use
