I was iniciated in TM twenty five year ago! I as neves asked any money or forced to any thing didn't want! I got a lot of good about it but I wa never devoted. What's the problem? probably yoou got lost yourself there but is nothing to do with TM. Please stop blaming other f onself responsability!
This film is a quirky look at something that is far more advanced than the filmmaker portrays.
Fortunately there is peer-reviewed, independent research on meditation that shows it does have results. The film distorts meditation, but people are more trusting in research than a quirky film makers take on spirituality. I think meditation is here to stay.
To those who accuse me of misunderstanding what TM is about: I was involved at a very high level in this movement for YEARS. I was directly involved in the "research". I've seen behind the curtain firsthand and I DO understand COMPLETELY what it's about. Unfortunately, my story is far from unique. I'm not selling ANYTHING. I'm not trying to persuade anyone to join or practice anything else. My only motivation is to help others from becoming victims. And I do so at great personal risk.
Once again the TM trolls are out in force doing damage control. You'll find them in groups on any site that doesn't agree TM is the only answer to all the world's ills. When a cult victim believes they're right in spite of all the evidence to the contrary, it's called denial and it takes real self-honesty and guts to face. I know because I experienced it as so many others did in the 60's and 70's.
Again, where is the world peace “Maha” promised 20 years ago? Where are all the flying Sidhhas?
Every Apocryphal organization has to come up with continuous, dubious, Ad Hoc explanations to explain why their prophecies went wrong. I'm amazed at how many high-level TM leaders and proselytizers I knew are now online defectors.
Yep, the basic, simple practice may have benefits for some...but most of the add-ons are silly, if not scary and harmful. And the statistical attrition rate is eye-opening (at LEAST 75%, and that's being generous).
I practiced TM and the siddhis RELIGIOUSLY as instructed for YEARS! I know what I’m talking about. It took real self-honesty to admit to myself I’d been taken in by a money cult.
The sales pitch is slick; the “science” enticing. But I urge anyone who is seriously considering TM to do their due diligence and research objectively. Take the abundant negative reports seriously because those of us who know are trying to protect those who don’t. You owe it to yourself and your loved ones.
I salute David Sieveking and this honest film. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
As a book critic and former TMr, I can tell you the film is completely honest and objective. The filmmaker did not set out to criticize TM. You'll witness his genuine torment and confusion as the facts about this cult start to emerge.
Since Lynch's group threatens to sue if it's released in the US, you must order from an overseas outlet.
The tmfree.blogspot has links to ordering sources. (goodmovies . de or amazon . de)
The video is a total sham to anyone who actually knows the facts. A certain type of person will like it, because it reaffirms their negative beliefs about TM. I say think for yourself and if you see this film, question it's assumptions and agenda in the same way the filmmaker pretends to have applied critical thinking to TM.
@londonafter There are plenty of better options, where you dont have to be part of a money making machine. Vipassana for example has nothing to do with religion and makes no false claims. There are even free courses all over the world. Sharing is caring.
@valotron TM is no money-making machine. There are no religious overtones, no false claims. It's non-profit in the truest sense. I have friends who paid more for Vipassana than I paid for TM. Anyone can learn TM--they offer scholarships. Vipassana doesn't compare--these are 2 different processes. Vipassana is scanning your body, controlling attention, striving to be mindful. Many find it hard. I tried it. TM is an easy process of transcending thought & sensation to experience pure consciousness.
Ha! Bevan's angry face....musta' not had enough pastries that morning!
"NOT RELIGIOUS?" Think again.
TM had it's big "Secular, Scientific" image during it's mid-70'S "Merv" boom, but anyone who went to MIU discovered there was more than a little "stealth religion" thru the whole movement. Levitation caused a late 70's schism in the movement - some top dogs split TM.
They'd edit MMY Vids where he'd let it slip that "the laws of nature" were actually "the gods" who were to be thanked.
@ladster3 that was YOUR perception. I had a very different experience there. Loved it. I never felt like anything was being hidden or that TM was religious. It's all a matter of one's personal level of understanding and clarity of experience of transcending. If you don't get the transcendent at the basis of TM, then TM becomes whatever you perceive it to be on the surface.
Well, FWIW, I was a 10 yr TMer & later Sidhi, who now has MUCH better results with binural meditation. Any "perception" of the transcendent must be tempered by knowing the organization has committed scientific & financial fraud, and a revered "celebate" leader who, after death, has been pretty much proven 2 have slept w/ followers. TM Mantras & "advanced technique" UNQUESTIONABLY originated w/ unambiguous, traditional devotional practices. Unquestionably.
@tanaats - Sorry, put "only" in quotes rather than in pseudo-bold. If you think an organization that charges so much is spiritually authentic in some way then go for it.
@tanaats TM is a totally spiritual organization because they teach a technique that allows one to experience pure spirituality deep within the mind. They offer grants/scholarships so anyone can learn. The usual anti-TM crusaders who post again & again all over the Internet (tanaats is one) try to keep the negative myths alive. This film just gives voice to the same old stale fabrications that anyone can easily dislodge with a little critical thinking or attending an intro talk on TM.
@londonafter dude tm is great, I learned 2 years ago. this movie is a very baaad film made by a guy who was looking for something with shock value to make himself look good. not bad in what it says, but bad because it draws unfair conclusions from meaningless information that he gathers. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was an amazing man, the culture built around him is a little wierd and thats what this movie trashes, tm has nothing to do with it.
@tanaats That Stuff isnt something you learn, Its something your given, if u want to laugh at it go ahead noone cares. but if you want to actually learn even 10% from the indian philosophy of vedanta, even 10% I suggest you learn Tm. because all of the Tm Organization is only 10%, if you go deeper youll find people 3000 years ago talking about how the magic powers are illusions and are archetypal of mental powers one can aquire. I honestly don't care what you do, but if your into spirituality,
@tanaats I hope you learn tm its fantastic and its becoming more and more accepted as time goes on just research it, the good and the bad, dude they crucified christ, killed john lennon. How magical and interesting of a topic does evolution sound to a 18th century christian. You have to realize what u think of as impossible is created by ur paradigm.
May I just note, that none of this conversation is being censored like every TM vid that I'm come across is. Hm, perhaps this suggests something? LOL!
SO glad to finally see an accurate film exposing one of the largest, most dangerous cults of our time. I was involved in this movement for nearly 15 years and was on their local board of advisers too. Trust me: complete rubbish. All about mind-control and money. Took me years to deprogram from this group. Don't let them sucker you. Trust yourself and let your true inner guide direct you. Save your money and your sanity and learn a true meditation technique for free, like insight or mindfulness.
@m0nkeypill What a sad misunderstanding is reflected in your comment. You obviously NEVER grasped the most basic facts about TM. You actually sound mentally ill, to interpret TM in that way. No one gets "programed" by TM. If anything it de-conditions you by expanding awareness.
To be honest, I feel like more people look down on me for liking the movement than anyone does to the people who don't. I am a student at Maharishi University of Management, and there are so many people always bashing the whole system that I often feel like I can't speak my opinion in front of them with out being thought of as a "crazy ru". Movies like this don't help.
Having been involved with the TM movement since '72, this will be an interesting film to watch. All spiritual movements have a degree of nonsense in them, but there is something that transcends the nonsense. The real job is discriminating between the two..
@Lehmann108 The film grossly distorts the truth. It's not about TM but about the filmmaker and his perception. He started out to slam TM from the beginning, disingenuously worming his way into the TM organization, which was overly trustful, having nothing to hide. He pretended to be making an honest documentary but ignored answers to his questions and only told his negative version. He had every chance to find the facts and present them in the film, but that was not his agenda.
I'm a former TM teacher from a looooong time ago, and am looking forward to seeing this film... amazing how the original ideas were quite life-affirming and reasonably benign, but have morphed over the decades into what appears to be a Fellini-like scene....
just saw this film in Frankfurt.. it was great! an entertaining and deep exploration of religion, belief and the spiritual search. definitely recommended!
I've been going to Maharishi University of Management for a year now. I must say, the politics of the "transcendental meditation movement" are unbelievable. The older "movement-ites" or "dome zombies" creep all of the young students out. There are really people who spend 7+ hours a day meditating and "flying." Over time, they start to look ill and become hyper-sensitive and irritable. However, I have really enjoyed my stay here and have met some really great people - including many teachers.
@sheldonknowsall Went to MIU from '74 to '78. It was okay back then. Even was on TSR for several years. I love the term "dome zombies"! They need some meat and some sex...and a job!!!
@sheldonknowsall If some people start to ill and become hiper sensitive and irritable what is the whole point,
to practice TM????? If my health is in the same level if I don't prectice TM.?? ANd if you need to meet some good people I have a long list of places where beleave me you can find a real good friends I mean friends.

TM will teach how to levitate, how to become invisible, how to gain the literal strength of an element, and many more such things for *only* $3000.
