After their career is finally over, U2 will not only leave behind one of the biggest footprints in the history of rock, they’ll leave behind one of the biggest footprints in the history of music. Their 'competition' isn't just rock legends like The Beatles, Elvis, Led Zeppelin, and The Rolling Stones-- it's people like Mozart, Beethoven, George Gershwin, and Duke Ellington. They are truly one of the ALL TIME greats. Anyone who doesn't understand this needs to listen to their ENTIRE catalog.
Looks like there were 117 9/11 truthers disliking this video... surprised they haven't flooded the comment section with their nonsense... Thank you for this Bono... I haven't seen this since it came out when i was 17 years old.. I shed a tear then and I shed a tear now
This performance proves without a shadow of a doubt that U2 is the greatest band of all time and in my opinion they are the greatest band of all time by far.
@Matty415100 I agree with you totally. I have always thought U2 were the best - no other band can ever top them or any other band has even come close to them in my opinion :)
At a time of profound grief in America this performance was exactly what the country needed. Respectful, commemorative but at the same time, uplifting and profoundly moving. A real moment in history. There was controversy at the time that super bowl 02 got an Irish band to play half-time, but U2 were the perfect band to use. Few other bands have captured the spirit of a nation so successfully. I watch this every year on the 9/11 anniversary (I lost friends in NY).
US congresswoman Cynthia McKinney has come out and blamed the pro-Israel Lobby in America (AIPAC, ADL, ZOA, etc) for ruining her political career. While in congress she refused to sign the pro-Israel pledge and took a pro-Palestinian stance. Because of this, McKinney said “war was declared” on her by the Jewish lobby. In 2009 she told TIU's Ognir that “more than 99% of Congress work for Pro Zionist Israeli interests.”
I'm fucking tired of waiting. Look at us, spinning, TOGETHER in this universe. We are becoming so much and we always were. 7,000,000,000 humans living together is not a problem to me. Bring on any argument. We're all one in the same, LITERALLY! It's overdue to see us how we really are.
Its a wonderful song, from a wonderful band, making a beatiful tribute. I whish one day U2 perform such a tribute for those inocents from IRAK, IRAN, SAUDI, JAPAN, EMIRATES, GERMANY, NAM, AFGHANISTAN, RUSSIA ... ... .... .....
Its not a tribute for being proud of USA, is a tribute to be proud of our world and think in a the victims of others wars (bosses)
Check this video out from 5.11 and 2 other vids after. /watch?v=vQqrH8P1SZQ . Bono and U2 were always on our side. This video decodes messages people could not see about this performance and other thing. Mind control wants you hate or even kill Bono. Watch and be amazed and see the real hero Bono really is .
Tell me this isn't the best performance of art/music ever. The ultimate defiance of evil in the most spiritual of ways. The glory of the indomitable spirit of man against all odds.
I remember as a 9 year old kid watching this superbowl and halftime show with my dad. The performance gave me chills then, and as a 20 year old young man, I still feel those same chills anytime I watch this video or hear this song.
I remember feeling something as a cub scout when we all listened to America, America at a pack meeting. I guess it was national pride. This is something else. When that riff starts, it's like Superman is here, and everyone loves him. It's nice to hear people screaming for Superman for a change, instead of some thug.
No one's probably gonna read this, but I’ll say it anyway cuz I feel at least 1 person will. I'm a young designer and graffiti artist, I know there's a million out there but I feel like my art has a unique individual style.
If you just take a min and give me a chance I'll make you a believer. I would love nothing more than to have a loyal following on youtube. If anyone who reads this could press the "THUMBS UP" others will see it. Just a simple button push will make a huge difference.
Of course the patriots won. The patriots epitimized the country at that time: the underdog, the ONE team, the team who came out as, well a team instead of individual players. They had character as well as class. They not only represented America, they were America. I wish I could have had the privelege of being at that wonderful super bowl, but my dad was. Watching it now it is one of the most powerful moments i've ever seen. Best part of the video: the American flag in his jacket.
I think, i pray, for all the victims of the american and europeans wariors, all the civilians killed, all the people victims of capitalism, victims of imperialism.
I think that their names could be inscribed on the facade of the WTC.
Theire is no band singing for these people, that's a shame for humanity.
U2 has stated many times how much they love the US. They realize that without their fan base here they would not have had the successes of their careers. This was a wonderful tribute heartfelt from them to us. No politics, no blame just a way to say... hand tough America, we love you.
@jobogottennis MLK is the first song he sang. It's from the album The Unforgettable Fire. It's a lullaby tribute to Martin Luther King. What Bono is reciting before the "Streets" song is a prayer. Psalms 51:15
"O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall show forth thy praise."
Best tribute to those that died that day, to date. Best half-time performance at a Superbowl as well! RIP to those souls, and for our U.S. soldiers that have paid the ultimate sacrifice protecting this country!
I remember watching this live performance and I cried like a baby. It was a beautiful performance and a tribute to 9-11. Much respect to U2! One of the greatest Rock bands of all time!
R.I.P. the 2,976 American people that lost their lives on 9/11 and R.I.P. the 48,644 Afghan and 1,690,903 Iraqi people that paid the ultimate price for a crime they did not commit & the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who experience this every day.
May this song serve as an anthem for all of the victims of the terrorist attacks that occured on the fateful day of September 11, 2001. Let us all dedicate this song to their innocence, their boldness, their patriotism, and their enduring legacy that has been woven in to the fabric of America. Thank you to U2 for this consolation of a song, for it has uplifted many American hearts out of grief and in to acceptance, resilience, and pride.
This is easily one of the most beautiful tributes to 9/11 ever created. In a time of our great country's most utter despair, through the power of music, our heavy hearts were inspired and lifted with hope. I don't know about anyone else who has watched this, but every time he opens his jacket at the end and those stars & stripes show, I weep with uncontrollable pride. Whoever the 114 minions of satan are the "disliked" this video....may you rot in hell and God have mercy on your evil soul.
@Jaycra24 Well said. I agree. I was so lifted by this. And look at his face after he does the jacket pull and steps back from the mike -- you can see by his face, how much he means it. I gained a whole new level of respect for Bono and the band after this.
@Jaycra24 fuck you pal was 10 years ago move on great songs but fuck sake stop been a little dildo callin people minions of satan im gonna dislike every 9/11 tribute video to piss you off unless it has u2
only reasons it has likes is because of the song nobody pittys you fucks anymore
@Jaycra24 Yes, of course. Truer words have never been spoken. Feel pride for your great country and your brave soldiers who've killed around 150,000 civillians in your greed fuelled war. They'll all definitely go to heaven, but FUCK the people who dared to dislike a YouTube video. 117 evil heartless bastards that clicked that button and condemned their souls to eternal damnation. God help you, buddy. Coz no one else fuckin can.
90 countries lost their citizens and we remember them all. We are all one people, with the same hurt, same loss but with the same strength and hope. This amazing video shows that the human spirit can will always rise above fear.
I remember that so vividly... His scream right after shouting 'America' snapped me out of my gloom from 9/11 like a slap on the back from a good friend- from that moment on I knew America would be okay. Quite an amazing performance at a time when we needed it. Our generation is truely blessed to have U2...
Amazing tribute, I still get chills and teary eyes when I see this...THANK U U2 for such an AMAZING tribute !!! 10yrs ppl lets never forget 9/11 !!! God Bless
Never forget, 10 year anniversary coming up , September 11th....The terroristsa will never win...or kill American spirit..I was driving thru Utah to New York in February 2002....still seen one of the best Winter Olympics ever in UItah...and seen amazing spirit in Manhattan....at ground zero...Super!!!
As the anniversary approaches I tend to look at this video and remember seeing it during the Bowl, I haven't seen anything done better or more appropriately since.
as a sports fan, this puts into perspective that there are things more important than sports and anything else in life. i'm anxious for Sunday Sep. 11th, 2011 when the dallas cowboys come play the new york jets. it's going to be real emotional at that game, and all of the other nfl games that day to kickoff the season.
Wonder what was on the the rams and patriots faces when they heard this or watched, if they didn't, they missed the biggest goosebumps and tears of happiness of what any band did of their life.
This is by far the best Super Bowl halftime show ever. Not even close. No group is even in the same atmosphere as these guys. No boozing. No drugs. No crap. Pure class and a total oneness with the fans. NO ONE these days posesses this. U2's simply in a class by themselves. God bless these 4 awesome human beings!
In my opinion, this is the most powerful, and moving Super Bowl show,of all time.Say what you will, but these guys put into words, what we were all feeling.May God bless them, and all of us always.
it's the most powerful tribute to 9/11 and its victims that i remember from that time. and two moments -- at 5:05 when the names collapse and at 6:01 when he reveals a US flag under his leather jacket -- are almost too much for anyone to bear.
ATTENTION ALL U2 FANS!(Sorry for the caps lock),On August 12th, we will be watching the music video With or Without you repeatedly all day to boost it's view count up to at the least of 100,000,000 views. You don't even have to listen to it. You can just keep playing the video back to back all the way through without sound. We're doing this to compete with Justin Beibers garbage music videos & to make U2 be heard across Youtube. Copy& Paste this across all U2 videos. Spread the word
This is why i hate music these days. its all about auto-tuning ur voice to match the harmony, key and rythm. the black eyed peas performance made me puke...it was just a huge light show..oooh wow who cares...you need music to lift u from the heart and make your soul fill. not many bands can do that. U2 is one of these bands. That intro makes me cry along with that almost lullaby like song in the beginning. Bono silently sleeps to the spirits we lost that day. Nothing will match this perfomrance!
ONLY U2 could do this. FOREIGN band, remembering the most American of tragedies. Although it shocked me to the core in the UK, its still not an easy job. Well done U2, a massive goosebump moment.
@giorgiboi123 I can't wait to be there! We are gonna watch the womens world cup final at a bar downtown and then get in line for the show. U2 is gonna be amazing!
I still can't believe how long that list is...

His scream right after shouting 'America' snapped me out of my gloom from 9/11 like a slap on the back from a good friend- from that moment on I knew America would be okay. Quite an amazing performance at a time when we needed it. Our generation is truely blessed to have U2...

Hey, you 114 ungrateful motherfuckers, if you don't like it here, you can easily move to another country

Thank God for U2, not perfect, but so often come through in an astonishingly real way in a cynical world.

Perhaps the most powerful Superbowl show ever. The list is chilling.

The only thing the Super Bowl was ever good for was that performance right there.

I cried like a baby when I watched this live back in 2002. Hadn't heard them play MLK since 1987. Brilliant. Chills.

This is by far the best Super Bowl halftime show ever. Not even close. No group is even in the same atmosphere as these guys. No boozing. No drugs. No crap. Pure class and a total oneness with the fans. NO ONE these days posesses this. U2's simply in a class by themselves. God bless these 4 awesome human beings!
yesorlando05 5 months ago 2
In my opinion, this is the most powerful, and moving Super Bowl show,of all time.Say what you will, but these guys put into words, what we were all feeling.May God bless them, and all of us always.

it's the most powerful tribute to 9/11 and its victims that i remember from that time. and two moments -- at 5:05 when the names collapse and at 6:01 when he reveals a US flag under his leather jacket -- are almost too much for anyone to bear.

I know that groups rarely (if ever) perform at two Super Bowls. But, if any were to get the honor, U2 should be the one.

I love it when he prays in the beginning of Streets.
skiierman100 6 months ago
