This is of course according to that particular book, which is the most plausible and rational collection of information about Manson I've seen-without it being sensationalized, I mean. He shot a drug dealer, the guy didn't die. And there's fairly good evidence it was in self defense, dead or not. Manson thought he had killed the guy and then saw that a member of the Black Panthers had been shot and killed on the news the next day. The man he shot, Bernard Crowe, was not a member of the Black Panthers-it was just a crazy coincidence. This sent Manson into paranoia-and if he had killed who he thought he had he had VERY good reason to be paranoid.

If you read the book, "Manson in his own Words," written by a former inmate turned journalist, lots of details of his past are put in order, & remind us that there is no record of him killing anyone: just beating up a drug dealer & leaving him for dead. (The dealer owed him money.) These days they've most likely got Charles Manson so drugged up that he would be a different person if they took him off. I say release him to protective custody: let him live his remaining days in dignity.
