mike at a young age of 13 - 14 was very big boy naturally, he is simply gifted with out standing genetics, every part of his body is big and also he has a big bone structure which adds alot. i'm 5'8 and am gifted mainly on my legs at 26" and 16" calf and i dont train them, they are just muscular so mike was like that all over. kevin roony has said when mike first walked into the boxing gym at 13 or 14 mike was like a Man! i think mike had the illusion to look bigger because he is short compact.
"so when you come to fight me you have to be at your best, coz you gotta be prepared to beat me at my best, and at my best i dont think anyone can beat me" yeeaaahhh boooyyeeeee thats what im talkin about!!! hahahahahahaha
I hope this video proves once and for all that Tyson NEVER lifted weights during his prime years. Trainer Kevin Rooney also confirmed that Tyson never lifted weight while he was training him because, quite frankly, he never needed them. Tyson was so naturally big and strong, it would have been pointless. Better to focus on skills, stamina, and speed.
@LedWhisky69 Yes your right I am absolutely amazed @ the mans development & just perplexed. He realy looks like he's been doing basic power lifting incorporated in his training.Whenever I see him in the early on he reminds me of someone who trains flat bench, barbell curls, deadlift & military presses or push presses. No squats his legs were small ,but I have a lost for words I had to work like a dog to get that kinda bulk @ one time.....Just raw talent.
@kimera808 Genetically, some people are just very fortunate like that. It's hard to believe that it could be the case, but it actually happens quite often. I've known several people in my own lifetime personally that had very large, muscular builds and were strong as hell without barely ever touching a weight in their lives. Most were physically active in other sports, but when it came to size and strength, they were just gifted. Amazing and yet more common than you'd think.
@LedWhisky69 Yeah I can think of a few right of the bat that were naturally muscular that would gain development by just sneezing. But Mikes density & proportions usually come from some type of weight training, aybe the calisthenics & running keep him proptionate but his pec density???.Heres something into this look up some vids from "bartendas"," hannibal" or "beastmode" "ghetto" workouts no weight training.I have a cousin that's like that though & the man is just naturally strong.
@LedWhisky69 Also weight training may have slowed him down.He definitely didn't need help in power. But there aren't to many heavy weights with that speed. So yeah they were right to focus on just skill, stamina , & speed. I have disagreed before with other viewers in the past about Mikes training with weights but here it is from the source. Not like he needed it though his hands were touched by God.
@kimera808 After prison, bike did lift weights. At this stage of his career his lifting was bodyweight only, but involved many, many dips, pullups, etc.
@WithBACON Yeah I realize this now. Theres a vid called "Mike Tyson's Beast gym training" here on youtube to confirm were he's bustin out serious weight doing hack squats. He's definitely familiar with power training, compound movements & the straight bar he has the classic physique of some one in a bulking stage.....No ones just born into this shape with a little help from calisthenics , jogging, jump ropping & hittin the bag, thats ridiculous you'll just tone up & burn caleries doing this.
@WithBACON Sure I understand that here he peobably just did push ups dips & chins he looks like a classis meso ectomorph great genetics but puts on fat easily if not careful. But later on he definitle hit the Iron just no way for him not to have seen the gym.Regaurdless yeah he still has good genes that's easy to tell.
Nah compare 80s Tyson body to post prison Tyson's body.
He weighed the same, but in the 90s his muscle were so dry and veiny and ripped it was crazy. The 80s Tyson just looks like a genetic freak who was in great shape.
Also a lot of people don't realise prime Tyson is really not that big. He looks bigger than he is.
A terrific, gentle, educated, smart, literate man here. Don King did fuck him up. I worked in the lounges at Heathrow, and he flew in for his fight with Julius Francis (it was a connecting flight to Manchester I believe) and he was the most polite person we've had in the lounge.A real old school gentleman. God bless you Mike.
@ryanwegner2010 rubbish. He was very good of course but he pretty much lost to every fighter who stood up to him. The people he was fighting in the late 80's were not that good. Holmes was over the hill, Spinks was a blown-up light heavyweight and the others were not greats.
@vymmas he was too quick and powerful for the likes of ali and frazier, the only person who could even compare to him is foreman, and even then, he isn't quick enough to avoid tysons combinations. you're forgetting that tyson's prime barely lasted two years. those are the two years i was talking about
He looks so humble and focused, there's a little innocence there too. Then comes Don King, Robin Givens, .. So much shit happens within the next 3 years after this.
@biglu323 yes to be honest if you back track, before tyson met the late great cus d'mato he used to be a stick up kid in brooklyn basically even worse than what he became after don king, but cus shaped him into the man in this interview, and once those dirty snakes got to him after cus died his old persona took over him and those leeches sucked him dry.
