@murderslastcrow My credentials? I've recently been hired in a 3D & design studio... all the creative team use mac pros. Linux is used for more then render farms, though, I agree.
@FutureComputing If I were a network station I would decide to use the program that performs on multiple OSs so I never have to deal with compatibility issues, I am not a hater of Macs I am a hater of final cut. The titling feature is terrible, transitions are mislabeled and the fact that I have to render a clip every time I change a single frame simply blows. even if it is the industry standard you will need after effects anyways and premiere works easier with native programing.
@FutureComputing Funny how he doesn't seem to mention Avid in his analysis, I'm not pretending to know something that no one else knows, I am stating a fact that he should have mentioned along with any one of you fanboys out there. If smaller TV networks and lower budget movies want to save money by not buying the expensive industry standard doesn't it make sense to buy PCs and use premiere pro? (although I am aware that this is not the case.)
@FutureComputing Funny how a year later he mentions hyper-threading the guy sounds really cutting edge. and he is talking to a guy that has been editing for a profession for 6-7 years do you think he is editing high school videos? If an i5 is fine then why doesn't he get an i5 PC? again the ability to save a few grand, and upgrade his computer is still there. What people don't want you to know is that the majority of TV and Movies are edited with Avid.
@sundance37 The majority of big budget films are edited with Avid, but now increasingly since it works out to be much more cost effective TV stations and some films use premiere or final cut(on a mac, usually). Please don't act like you know some hidden information from within the industry, anyone who even has the slightest interest in TV and film would know that Avid is dominant. Leo suggested a mac, because in his opinion its better for people who want to cut highschool and wedding movies.
I've been looking at buying a new computer to replace a 9 year old hp 551w with xp home. This machine has been very faithful to me but I know it won't last much longer. I was looking at a dell xps 8300 and see it's a great deal for all you are getting spec wise but for just a bit more I can get a imac 21.5". although lower spec wise I think with apples operating system designed to work with this machine will more than make up for what it lacks in specs. I trust Leo and will get a imac next.
@4evil2me With the exception of a customizable auto save feature you are absolutely right, oh, wait that actually blew your entire argument to shit. and as far as the program crashing, what are referring to, Windows XP? of coarse OSX is better than the microsoft OS that its a decade old, have you even tried Windows 7? It must suck upgrading your mac, where as I am doubling my RAM this weekend in about 10 minutes, at a quarter of the price and by myself.
This guy actually doesn't know anything about digital video processing. He suggests an i5 processor to someone that wants to do video editing? does he understand what hyper-threading is? of coarse not, what he knows is "The professionals use FCP" thanks for providing examples. PC FTW save yourself a few grand, especially if you aren't starting from scratch.
@sundance37 Yeah, it must be really nice to forget to save in Cinema 4D and have a system crash or look at your screen as the program stops responding and fuck you up after you've worked on the project for many hours hours
@sundance37 yes.. he does, infact i just listened to an episode where he talked about hyper threading in the mac pros. you should do your research, leo knows his shit.
an i5 is FINE for editing high school videos and weddings btw...
I have both a MAC Bookpro and a Windows 7 machine. At work all we use are MACs, at home I have my mac laptop and my Windows 7 Dell. Ill tell you what...my PC is much more reliable. Final Cut Pro is used a lot in the industry but it's not because it is better than any other software out there. I do very heavy 3D rendering, and a lot of video editing, visual effects work, etc. guess what? My mac crashes on me at least two times a week. My PC can handle these heavy projects much much better.
granted i dont do a lot of video editing but one thing is for sure fomr what ive used out of all 3 major editing platforms...final cut is the SLOWEST out of vegas or premiere, rendering is really bad. it just doesn't seem like they optimize it for the hardware its on
@Smood47 you're biased and clearly an angry fanboy. Macs and PCs both have there pros and cons... calling someone a fucking retard for suggesting a mac makes you a fucking retard.
@FutureComputing I'm not calling him a retard because he was choosing mac I was calling him a retard because he said something factually incorrect (a video editing PC will cost almost as much as a mac).
I should point out Apple's and AVID's MONOPOLY in the industry. I wonder if you got your 27" for free? If you paid for it, money well spent from your point of view because you are stuck with mac things only. NOW from my end, I like to have control over my Computer. So its Custom Made. I like to pop the hood and do what I want. AND Multi CORE its only fully avaliable on Windows for must major production and post production applications.
your podcast should be about OS because MAC is a PC.
The mac of today is alive thanks to INTEL And now you hypocrites are tasting the true PC POWER Ok? icandy suckers. When the "G5" came out: "ooh its the best thing" LOL crashed and burned.
Mac users and Apple used to trash on INTEL but now its on every APPLE PC, LMBO. Well my FRIEND its all about INTEL.
WHERE is the QT64?
CAN U do multi core? NO! You can't run all COREs on every program out there, ON WINDOWS I CAN.
THE OSX is always late. They don't like risks so they stay inside the apple.
I've done post production and video edition on Windows PC. NO AVID
ALSO MAC is a PC so why the MAC vs PC nonsense? Should be, Apple MAC vs the rest of the other manufactures. ALSO we now can make a "MAC" from scratch, will run just as fast or better for WAY less. THANKS to INTEL
But let us know when MAC gets up to speed and finally do QUICKTIME 64?
If anyone here had any intelligence, you would know that editing is only a small fraction of the movie making process.
Just because a studio or freelancer uses FCP doesnt mean that its made on a Mac. It simply means it was edited on a Mac.. but what about storyboards, modeling, animation, rigging, compositing etc??
And just for the record, Dreamworks uses HP machines, not Apple.
@FoodMoTron3k OH MY GOD! Dreamworks themselves?!?!?!?!?! OH MY GOD! Dude, the most of media uses Mac. News, movies, animations, music, photos. Pretty much everything. Who the fuck cares about what Dreamwork uses? Many also use Macs for storyboards and modeling. I am working with media and communication and almost every studio that can afford Macs uses Macs
@4evil2me Your generalization of "most of the media uses Macs", shows how ignorant you really are. Sure, many studio's use Mac's, but there are also many studio's that use Linux distro's, and Windows. I work for a CG-Post production Studio, and I use a Windows machine.
My comment about Dreamworks was in response to another user who said they use Macs, which isnt true.
@FoodMoTron3k So you say my college lies to me about media and gives us Mac's for no reason? I don't think that one of the best colleges in the best country in the world would do that
@FutureComputing No, Mac's are not better, and if you had any knowledge of this industry, then you would know that "best" and "better" are subjective and relative, but apparently, you've been blinded by the Apple logo. Now go back to your Mac and keep telling yourself how better it is.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@FoodMoTron3k I have a pretty good knowledge of film and 3d, I use Maya on a Mac Pro and its the smoothest experience I've ever had. Don't be so dismissive of a platform without at least giving me some reasons why its just so awful.
@4evil2me I said, "IF"... as in, if thats what they told you. You never really said what they told you about media, so I could only guess they think its better, hence the "if".
@FoodMoTron3k i think you have a very valid point. dreamworks, as well as pixar, use linux for much of their movie production including the video editing itself.
i think the main focus is final cut, the integration it has with mac, and mac's overall stability is what gives mac an edge for video editing. otherwise, there is little to no advantage. both windows and linux perform faster than mac on the same hardware, so i'm not sure where people get the impression that macs are the best at it
@FoodMoTron3k small fraction? if you had any knowledge of movies, you would know that editing (no matter what platform your using) is one of the most important parts of movie making.
@FutureComputing If I had any knowledge of movies?? LOL I work for a post production studio. Like I said, editing is only a fraction of the process. I never said anything about importance. You must be the typical Mac user that doesnt know jack squat about anything.
the epic movie 300 was done in fcp, leverage the tnt drama, everybody hates chris was done in fcp, car commercials, the bbc uses fcp. go check out the mac website.
u have all adobe applications on mac aswell becous you mention that Premier is one of good in windows well would u say on mac it changes , the reason mac book is expensive are next reasons: looks original becous they have their own system for their own machine what means it will work perfectly memans no driver problems for beginners , no virus would be so exagerated to say but it is true , all media applications are used on mac and machine is running good and way more better then windows
You said that every film studio uses mac. VERY incorrect. ILM use Linux, Dreamworks animation use Linux, Pixar use linux, Disney use Linux sometimes and even SONY pictures use Linux a lot even though they have vegas pro. Nearly all animations, effects and editing since 2002 has been done using primarily Linux. Really the only people who use Macintosh and Windows are people who can't afford to build custom software (aka normal people).
@nathan8BIT You're wrong Silicon Graphics INC. is used in all studio's mentioned above. And most of the basic non-animation editing is done on MACPro's. Ever been at the Dreamworks or Pixar studio's. Don't think so.
If you've seen the movie Cars or Toy Story, their are many remarks that they are Apple fans. One of the Cars in Cars has an apple logo. And in the first toy-story every computer was a iMac G4
Current specs for the ASUS G73jh-a1: 17.3" LED screen, Intel i7 processor, 1TB= 2x500 Gb HDD's @ 7200rpm, 1GB DDR5 ATI Radeon HD 5870 (fully capable of Direct X11), 8GB DDR3 Ram, Blue Ray drive, plus free extras like a backpack and mouse.. Price: $1640.00.
Mac Book Pro: 17" LED screen, Intel Core 2 Duo. 4GB DDR3 Ram, 500 GB HDD @ 5400rpm, nVidia Gforce 9600m, regular DVD drive. No extras.. Price: $2500.
The PC fanboys and Apple haters that say Leo is biased are basically never see/watch/hear Leo's shows. He uses and recommends what he thinks is best. This is for a radio show where the audience are mostly normal people, not geeks like some of you here.
Leo himself is using the Nexus One, not the iPhone. He also have more Windows PCs in his "office" than Macs.
He's not. In fact, he has more Windows PCs at his "office," than Macs. He's also using a Nexus One now, not the iPhone. He said what he thinks is best for the purpose. And remember, this is for the radio show, where his audience are mostly normal people.
@pika2001 okay...jus cuz he has more pcs doesnt mean he likes it more...i could have more oranges but like apples and have less of em....and cmon...hes taking alot about mac...and final cut pro...and he just mentions premiere and avid for a bit...yeah...sure unbiased
While It appears Vegas Pro and Sound Forge Pro are very similar in features and functionally with FCP I think I would switch if I didn't have to dump a $1,000 investment and spend another $1,000 to do so. In addition $2,500 for the decent iMac.
However, I'm not convinced over the stability argument with the number of problems I've seen with Mac Pro and iMacs. If I were I might think more seriously about it. They have about the same problems from my experience. Does Snow Leopard change that?
I 'switched' about 6 months ago. I was PC for 15 years using all types and spent the most for the best specs. I purchase a 3 year old Mac book and it runs better than my $2000 laptop that i purchased. Here is the main difference..... Having a PC is like being a parent of a temperamental adolescent. We have to keep saying "what's wrong now"? All the time. I love the MAC and now 'get it'. More expensive but LESS TROUBLE IN EVERY REGARD. I am free.
Apple PCs are alive now days thanks to our INTEL chip! ok buddy!? You mac guys are so inmature and very wrong informed; also icandy suckers.
Remember when the "G5" came out? ooh "its the best thing" LOL Mac users and Apple used to trash on INTEL but now its on every APPLE PC, LMBO. well my FRIEND its all about INTEL. but OSX is always late.
WHERE is the QT64?
CAN U do multi core? only on 3 programs from Adobe you get the full core power.. so you see dude, walk the walk.
@AppleSoldier I cant help but notice you come in to my video and leave a response to me posting a vid as a response but yet you wont approve my response video here?
Mac's will always be one step ahead you can not deny it PERIOD.Regardless if you hate mac's they will always have a spot reserved in the top of the line studio's across the globe and pc's will always remain inferior to a mac, sorry pc fanboys lol
look at this idiots eyes light up when the caller mentions a mac. leo has just thought to himself. "great i get another 10 grand if i mention and recomend a mac for the next 10 minutes" this guy would suck anybodys dick if you gave him the money.
This "idiot" also happens to be one of the most renowned tech experts you'll ever find. He's forgotten more than you'll ever know so I suggest you keep your shitty opinions to yourself.
Sure he might be towards Mac side for his personal preferences but when it comes to recommend someone to an OS, he is completely non-biased. He equally recommends both to whatever needs and financial limitations people have.
Based on the last 10 years of the public face Leo has presented he is actually pretty rounded. It is a real disservice to Leo Laporte that AppleSoldier is quoting him like this to give the illusion that Leo is a Mac fanatic like Emeek77 is.
That is kinda the point. Even though Leo is a Mac head he is not: all things must be Mac, you need Apple, Apple is best for everyone. He often points out to many the bad of Apple when appropriate.
You quoting an exert to make him seem like a raving MAC HEAD like you is a real disservice to Leo Laporte. His setup uses OSX, Linux, & Windows. And he is honest about that. When people who don't know Leo see this they are going to think he is "you need a mac" and he is anything but.
what? no its not. he is just recommending an editing system. You cant even see what he is using. They dont talk about anything but editing. You wouldnt think he is a raving pc head if he recommend vegas pro would you?
I watch a lot of Leo's podcasts, and I know he isn't bias towards certain types of computing. I was just saying that if I were someone who never watched Leo before, I might possibly think that after watching this clip, that he was more favored towards Apple for a lot of things just because they're Apple. Raving Apple or PC head is a bit strong though lol.
Hi Leo, what the adress of that cute girl on your show with Dvorak (1.3.2010)? Does she alway do sexy things on your show ? I laughed a lot on her BJ with her mike.
AdobePC shut the fuck dude your not owning anybody, your just making a fool out of yourself why the fuck do you want to see his studio so bad ? you already should know that mac based produced are well built to last !..unlike your shitty toy pc which crashes and gets bsod every month, god I find it so bizarre how people could actually defend pc's i really have a hard time figuring that out.
What do you do on your computer besides surf the net ?? let me guess, YOU JUST SURF THE NET, when your working with audio or video editing programs your gonna need what the industry standard recommends a MAC unlike pc's they will not always work with all the newest updates on most advanced demanding software's out their, you probably just surf the net and go on aim and log off you dont need an OS you just need a fucking web browser, learn to decipher the two differences.
What a revelation. I did not know 3 instances of Excel, Outlook, HTML editor, 3 browsers, GTalk, Xchat, a custom database program, Java, a few instances of notepad, MS Word, software deployment, remote access, inventory, etc...all counted as me just surfing the net and chatting on AIM. As for most advanced demanding software, do elaborate what that is exactly.
@kaosum2 First of all none of those kiddie programs you've just named use up as much power, seems to me you'll be fine with your shitty windows since your not even using it to have projects out the door and run software like Pro Tools or Final Cut, but if its your profession then its the industry standard, thats basically what im saying. It would be dumb for anyone to go out and buy a thousand dollar machine to just use those shitty windows software you just named.
Dude you misinterpreted what I wrote, I said the industry leans towards using a mac in their studio for media/music production instead of a PC. I already know FCP isn't used on ALL movies, it has only been used on a couple of few FCP is mainly used for TV commercials, broadcasting and so on. But regardless,Avid or FCP their still USING a MAC, And if you want to prove me wrong on that one I would love to hear it, come on pc fan girl enlighten me.
@IgnorantAppleFanboys oh god where do you pull this conspiracy bullshit from? another PC user talking out of his ass with out an ounce of proof to back up his claims, use your time to researching facts instead of talking out of your ass now go touch your sister.
BSODs are getting more rare, yet nobody mentally sane will ever believe you if you say that you don't get crashes frequently and / or your OS doesn't slow down with time.
@Lervatsky I never said that the two things were related. As Laporte mentioned and as everyone who's used Windows has experienced, Windows is unstable and very often crashes for no or absurdly stupid reasons. If you don't care if millions of Mac users who have switched to a Mac in the first place for that reason don't believe you, then I'm sorry but you are the one who's stupid.
The "millions of Mac users" might have switched from Windows to Mac because of the problems they experienced but I am sure many are not as ignorant as you to say that "everyone else" who uses Windows have constant crashes and problems. That is a lie.
As far as as Leo goes, well. I cannot take him seriously because as he said himself, "I am a Mac bigot". He is biased.
@Lervatsky I am ignorant? LMAO! I bet I can use Windows better than any of you stupid fanboys here on YouTube. And that IS the reason why I had so many problems. The more extensively you use Windows, the more problems you're going to have. It is a fact, and everybody who's realized it has switched to another OS, be it OS X or Linux depending on their needs.
And why do you think he became "biased"? Because he's had problems with Windows in the first place.
@IgnorantMacFannies Oh ho, here come the questions, right? Do you really think I'm going to answers all of your questions just to prove you what I know? LOL! You can try and find the most remote thing to tweak, it won't prove anything. And it's unrealistic, why would I want to change my processor name? To look "cool"? Or why would I limit the amount of RAM I can use? So that Windows performs badly? Sorry but I prefer working rather than tinkering with the registry and its ProcessorNameString
I thought you were "Windows Pro", this is why I do not trust your experiences, it does not matter if you thinks its stupid or unrealistic its about learning your operating system instead of whining and make up shit.
@IgnorantMacFannies I'm someone someone who can use Windows without any problem, at least enough so that others can't say that I can't use Windows. That doesn't mean that I have to be so utterly stupid to learn every single element of such an obsolete and inefficient thing such as the registry, especially when there are free tools which can do it much more quickly. And I doubt that any Windows fanboy in here knows how to use it better than me, cause if they did they would be using a Mac.
That makes no sense, if a Windows fan is better at using Windows than you, would be using a mac. Professionals in the It world know how to use Windows better than you and not all of them own macs. My greater knowledge of Windows does not make me stupid, it is just your ignorance of Windows that makes you stupid.
@IgnorantMacFannies People who go on and learn how to use Windows very well become aware of its limitations and decide to use a Mac...as simple as that.
@IgnorantMacFannies Everything but better. For instance, not needing formatting after a month? Not needing any security software? Not needing maintenance? Not needing defragmentation?
reformat once a month? I still have the Windows 7 rc running buddy its fine. Security Software? I have MSE and have not caught a virus, I never actually caught a virus on Windows, and I have used Windows 95 to Windows 7. Maintenance? All operating systems needs maintenance, Your mac runs scheduled scripts to do maintenance and your mac defrags on idle which means it defrags a lot probably more than oh scary Windows one time defrag every two weeks. Are all mac users ignorant of their own OS?
If you don't need security software why do they make antivirus software for the mac?
I do not need to format at all unless I install a new OS.
Defrag you don't even have to worry about in vista or 7 all you need to do is when you install a fresh or upgraded version of the 2 OS's I said and go to the control panel and setup auto defrag schedules on a time that the computer is on and you never have to worry about it again.
Thats like someone saying they went to the war in Iraq and never got shot at, and no one believing them. They could have been the cooks who were in no real danger.
@kaosum2 LOL, they are completely different things. Windows is BOUND TO have problems. It's because of the way it works, the malware, the obsolete technologies which it uses, the leaky memory management system, the inferior resource management etc. It's not something which CAN happen, it's something which just HAPPENS. To ANYONE. Even by using only the built in apps, so please either admit it or just STFU about this thing.
Because I know a bunch of people who use Windows but pretend to use Macs. Also, you are not defending Macs. Defending is when you provide valid points with credible sources, not just saying "Windows crashes all the time".
@Lervatsky But what's the point? It makes absolutely no sense to insult Windows if you're running it. That would be...retardd. I AM defending Macs, because Windows DOES crash very often, and very often for no reason other than it's badly-made features.
You can hate Windows for any reasons you like. Just don't expect to be taken seriously when you troll.
Saying that "Windows crashes all the time for everyone" is trolling. It is not true. I had ONE bad experience with my iMac and it was the one that ended the Mac experience for me. But I do not troll here about how Apple and everything it does sucks.
@Lervatsky I'm not trolling. Ok then, how about this, I've had several PCs, all running Windows Xp thru 7, and ALWAYS had crashes no matter what I did. And so happened to my family, my friends and everyone I know who uses Windows. And if that was not enough, that happens to many many many people in the world, the internet being the proof. That's why I decided to study more about OSes, and I realized how bad the technologies Windows is using are. And that is exactly why Windows sucks. Period.
Like I have stated, majority of all problems are user related. Just because you have had issues, doesnt mean I have had issues. But people like you, AppleSoldier and others will not understand that. When someone tells you that they never had a problems with Windows, what do you reply with? "Thats bullshit, you are a fucking liar." I say prove to me that I have had issues. I dont care if Mr Joe Smith has had issues, his were probably his fault too.
@kaosum2 Oh sure, I realize how much the user has to do with fresh new installations, with no apps installed other than the default ones, not connected to the internet at all and which still keep crashing after a month of use.
You're just blaming the driver for not being able to drive well a car with flat tires.
If you build a machine without testing parts (which can be easily tested with a few free apps without even needing to be in an OS of any type), then you deserve to crash.
If you buy a machine, then the parts have already be tested. If after that you get software crashes, its more than likely your fault. If hardware related, anything could have happened.
I never had any problems with Windows to the point where I had to reformat or mess with the registry to get it to run properly, which is something that I cannot say for my experience with Macs.
Something fucks up your permissions and you can't even consolidate your iTunes library.
@Lervatsky Windows crashes very very often compared to Macs. For as long as I've used Macs I've never had any system crash, and when apps have crashes they haven't slowed down or frozen the whole system like in Windows.
"Something fucks up your permissions". Bullshit. Permission repairing has been proven to be a myth, so if you've gone so far to actually fuck up a Mac...well, you've got talent.
If you got to crash Windows with native apps then you are truly the special one here. You probably get to ride the special bus with all the special kids, too.
You say Windows crashes on you all the time? I say bullshit. Prove me wrong. If you think that I am lying about the iTunes permissions problem, I can point you to other people with the same problem I had.
However, all that aside, I think you are a troll who uses Windows and just acting like a retard for the "lulz". Like "SLKxMonsooN".
Everything is bound to have problems. UNIX itself was not originally designed with security in mind. Hence why of all the vulnerabilities OSX has. Charlie Miller even stated OSX security is inferior to Windows. The obsolete technologies? You tell 90% of the market they need to upgrade, see how well that goes.
The problem with Windows is malware, but with IE7/8, this malware will not auto download/install like IE6 did. But for you to blame the OS and not the user is total BS.
@kaosum2 OS X will never be less secure than Windows as long as there will be more malware on the second, ok? MALWARE is the biggest threat, NOT vulnerabilities.
On Windows malware manages to get through, no matter what browser or OS Version you use.
The reason malware gets through is because the user allows it (either by interaction *dumb user* or by insecure user account *weak password*). The OS itself is dumb, it cannot do anything without the user asking it to do something first.
As for security, a bunch of experts all say Windows is fundamentally more secure than UNIX. UNIX (and Linux and OSX) all have a staggeringly higher number of vulnerablities than Windows does. Just check out Secunia's site.
@kaosum2 The problem is that Windows gets infected even when the user does very little. Even just browsing the web on a Windows machine with no antivirus (at least) can be fatal. Which is absurd.
Vulnerabilities are as of today just stupid exploits which rarely do any real damage. Malware is what causes a lot of losses, not vulnerabilities.
I used to have a PC/windows xp and i liked it but when I fist saw the mac I was like wow. And now i have a mac and i can tell you im an editor/independent filmmaker and its the best out there to edit with man WINDOWS=OWNED
I seen Avatar or as I call it "Dances with Smurfs" it's ok, but that's my opinion, I'm not big on a lot of CG work, like having real acting. Like Pirates of the Caribbean that had a good mix of CG and real acting.
Whether u liked it or not & thought it had too much cg & not enuff acting i can understand but in terms of cg & visual amazement it's some of the best i think i've seen in a movie especially watching it in 3d like i did :p
A lot of the Adobe products were used in the production of Avatar. I think they may have been using a Beta of CS 5. CS 5 will be 64 bit and make great use of CUDA.
Adobe has even anounced it will be ready in April.
Go see the Avatar Making of video on adobe's website. Now, compare what they've used Photoshop, Ilustrator and After Effects for with what they've used Premiere Pro. They've basically done everything with those three apps, and just used Premiere to put the pieces together. So yeah, Adobe's Apps are the most professional and leaders of the industry, (except for Premiere and Soundbooth).
And BTW, you HAVE noticed that they only used Macs for Avatar, right?
they used macs because apple gave them a shit load of money to use them. think about it. your not going to spnd millions of your own money so if a company comes to you and says "here here our product you can use it for free" of course you are going to use it. its the same with product placement. if your making a movie and a company says there going to give you a few thousand dollars to show there product for 5 seconds your going to take it
@dirtygore Yeah sure, conspiracy FTW! Stop being such an idiot, I know professionals who use Macs and they don't use them because Apple gives them money. Do you really think a company like Apple gives a fuck about some show like this? Do you really think they hope to get that many customers this way? Now get you head out of your ass and accept the reality: Macs are better than PCs. Period.l
Don't quote me on this. I cant find the the clip now, but I'm all but certain I sew a video James Cameron talking about a deal he made with adobe to use the Beta version of cs5
This comment has received too many negative votes show

Marcosdnax 11 months ago
granted i dont do a lot of video editing but one thing is for sure fomr what ive used out of all 3 major editing platforms...final cut is the SLOWEST out of vegas or premiere, rendering is really bad. it just doesn't seem like they optimize it for the hardware its on

FoodMoTron3k 1 year ago 26

@FoodMoTron3k OH MY GOD! Dreamworks themselves?!?!?!?!?! OH MY GOD! Dude, the most of media uses Mac. News, movies, animations, music, photos. Pretty much everything. Who the fuck cares about what Dreamwork uses? Many also use Macs for storyboards and modeling. I am working with media and communication and almost every studio that can afford Macs uses Macs
4evil2me 10 months ago
@4evil2me Your generalization of "most of the media uses Macs", shows how ignorant you really are. Sure, many studio's use Mac's, but there are also many studio's that use Linux distro's, and Windows. I work for a CG-Post production Studio, and I use a Windows machine.
My comment about Dreamworks was in response to another user who said they use Macs, which isnt true.
FoodMoTron3k 10 months ago 2
@FoodMoTron3k So you say my college lies to me about media and gives us Mac's for no reason? I don't think that one of the best colleges in the best country in the world would do that

4evil2me 10 months ago

FutureComputing 8 months ago
@FutureComputing No, Mac's are not better, and if you had any knowledge of this industry, then you would know that "best" and "better" are subjective and relative, but apparently, you've been blinded by the Apple logo. Now go back to your Mac and keep telling yourself how better it is.

@4evil2me Also they didn't say that Mac's were better for media, I didn't say they were better for media, when did I say that?
4evil2me 10 months ago
@4evil2me I said, "IF"... as in, if thats what they told you. You never really said what they told you about media, so I could only guess they think its better, hence the "if".
FoodMoTron3k 10 months ago
@FoodMoTron3k I said that most media uses it, I didn't say it was better. I guess Mac's are more used because they're more reliable and/or secure
4evil2me 10 months ago
@FoodMoTron3k i think you have a very valid point. dreamworks, as well as pixar, use linux for much of their movie production including the video editing itself.
i think the main focus is final cut, the integration it has with mac, and mac's overall stability is what gives mac an edge for video editing. otherwise, there is little to no advantage. both windows and linux perform faster than mac on the same hardware, so i'm not sure where people get the impression that macs are the best at it
schmidtbag 9 months ago
@FoodMoTron3k small fraction? if you had any knowledge of movies, you would know that editing (no matter what platform your using) is one of the most important parts of movie making.
FutureComputing 8 months ago
@FutureComputing If I had any knowledge of movies?? LOL I work for a post production studio. Like I said, editing is only a fraction of the process. I never said anything about importance. You must be the typical Mac user that doesnt know jack squat about anything.

I am free.

You quoting an exert to make him seem like a raving MAC HEAD like you is a real disservice to Leo Laporte. His setup uses OSX, Linux, & Windows. And he is honest about that. When people who don't know Leo see this they are going to think he is "you need a mac" and he is anything but.

What do you do on your computer besides surf the net ?? let me guess, YOU JUST SURF THE NET, when your working with audio or video editing programs your gonna need what the industry standard recommends a MAC unlike pc's they will not always work with all the newest updates on most advanced demanding software's out their, you probably just surf the net and go on aim and log off you dont need an OS you just need a fucking web browser, learn to decipher the two differences.
alkapone187 2 years ago
What a revelation. I did not know 3 instances of Excel, Outlook, HTML editor, 3 browsers, GTalk, Xchat, a custom database program, Java, a few instances of notepad, MS Word, software deployment, remote access, inventory, etc...all counted as me just surfing the net and chatting on AIM. As for most advanced demanding software, do elaborate what that is exactly.

Lervatsky 2 years ago 2
@Lervatsky I never said that the two things were related. As Laporte mentioned and as everyone who's used Windows has experienced, Windows is unstable and very often crashes for no or absurdly stupid reasons. If you don't care if millions of Mac users who have switched to a Mac in the first place for that reason don't believe you, then I'm sorry but you are the one who's stupid.
emperordarius 2 years ago
The "millions of Mac users" might have switched from Windows to Mac because of the problems they experienced but I am sure many are not as ignorant as you to say that "everyone else" who uses Windows have constant crashes and problems. That is a lie.
As far as as Leo goes, well. I cannot take him seriously because as he said himself, "I am a Mac bigot". He is biased.
Lervatsky 2 years ago
@Lervatsky I am ignorant? LMAO! I bet I can use Windows better than any of you stupid fanboys here on YouTube. And that IS the reason why I had so many problems. The more extensively you use Windows, the more problems you're going to have. It is a fact, and everybody who's realized it has switched to another OS, be it OS X or Linux depending on their needs.
And why do you think he became "biased"? Because he's had problems with Windows in the first place.
emperordarius 2 years ago
Okay how do you limit your ram? instead of using 4 gigs, only use lets say 512MB. how do you change the name of your processor in the registry?

@IgnorantMacFannies Oh ho, here come the questions, right? Do you really think I'm going to answers all of your questions just to prove you what I know? LOL! You can try and find the most remote thing to tweak, it won't prove anything. And it's unrealistic, why would I want to change my processor name? To look "cool"? Or why would I limit the amount of RAM I can use? So that Windows performs badly? Sorry but I prefer working rather than tinkering with the registry and its ProcessorNameString
emperordarius 2 years ago
I thought you were "Windows Pro", this is why I do not trust your experiences, it does not matter if you thinks its stupid or unrealistic its about learning your operating system instead of whining and make up shit.
IgnorantMacFannies 2 years ago
@IgnorantMacFannies I'm someone someone who can use Windows without any problem, at least enough so that others can't say that I can't use Windows. That doesn't mean that I have to be so utterly stupid to learn every single element of such an obsolete and inefficient thing such as the registry, especially when there are free tools which can do it much more quickly. And I doubt that any Windows fanboy in here knows how to use it better than me, cause if they did they would be using a Mac.
emperordarius 2 years ago
That makes no sense, if a Windows fan is better at using Windows than you, would be using a mac. Professionals in the It world know how to use Windows better than you and not all of them own macs. My greater knowledge of Windows does not make me stupid, it is just your ignorance of Windows that makes you stupid.
IgnorantMacFannies 2 years ago
@IgnorantMacFannies People who go on and learn how to use Windows very well become aware of its limitations and decide to use a Mac...as simple as that.

IgnorantMacFannies 2 years ago
@IgnorantMacFannies Everything but better. For instance, not needing formatting after a month? Not needing any security software? Not needing maintenance? Not needing defragmentation?
emperordarius 2 years ago
reformat once a month? I still have the Windows 7 rc running buddy its fine. Security Software? I have MSE and have not caught a virus, I never actually caught a virus on Windows, and I have used Windows 95 to Windows 7. Maintenance? All operating systems needs maintenance, Your mac runs scheduled scripts to do maintenance and your mac defrags on idle which means it defrags a lot probably more than oh scary Windows one time defrag every two weeks. Are all mac users ignorant of their own OS?
IgnorantMacFannies 2 years ago

IgnorantMacFannies 2 years ago 2
@emperordarius

I know about that. And I hate them.
emperordarius 2 years ago
@Lervatsky But what's the point? It makes absolutely no sense to insult Windows if you're running it. That would be...retardd. I AM defending Macs, because Windows DOES crash very often, and very often for no reason other than it's badly-made features.
emperordarius 2 years ago
You can hate Windows for any reasons you like. Just don't expect to be taken seriously when you troll.
Saying that "Windows crashes all the time for everyone" is trolling. It is not true. I had ONE bad experience with my iMac and it was the one that ended the Mac experience for me. But I do not troll here about how Apple and everything it does sucks.
Lervatsky 2 years ago
@Lervatsky I'm not trolling. Ok then, how about this, I've had several PCs, all running Windows Xp thru 7, and ALWAYS had crashes no matter what I did. And so happened to my family, my friends and everyone I know who uses Windows. And if that was not enough, that happens to many many many people in the world, the internet being the proof. That's why I decided to study more about OSes, and I realized how bad the technologies Windows is using are. And that is exactly why Windows sucks. Period.
emperordarius 2 years ago
Like I have stated, majority of all problems are user related. Just because you have had issues, doesnt mean I have had issues. But people like you, AppleSoldier and others will not understand that. When someone tells you that they never had a problems with Windows, what do you reply with? "Thats bullshit, you are a fucking liar." I say prove to me that I have had issues. I dont care if Mr Joe Smith has had issues, his were probably his fault too.
kaosum2 2 years ago
@kaosum2 Oh sure, I realize how much the user has to do with fresh new installations, with no apps installed other than the default ones, not connected to the internet at all and which still keep crashing after a month of use.
You're just blaming the driver for not being able to drive well a car with flat tires.
emperordarius 2 years ago
If you build a machine without testing parts (which can be easily tested with a few free apps without even needing to be in an OS of any type), then you deserve to crash.
If you buy a machine, then the parts have already be tested. If after that you get software crashes, its more than likely your fault. If hardware related, anything could have happened.
kaosum2 2 years ago
@kaosum2 It's not my fault. It's the OS's. Get over it.
emperordarius 2 years ago
If your OS crashes on you "no matter what you do", it is because:
1) You are doing something seriously wrong.
2) You are running Windows on something that it shouldn't be running on.
3) You are using Windows ME.
4) You are lying and trolling.
Can you even handle a calculator?
Lervatsky 2 years ago 7
@Lervatsky
1)No
2)OEM or self built computer, drivers always up to date?
3)Xp, Vista and 7.
4)Nope.
Now that you mention it, Calculator is one of the few apps that rarely crashes under Windows.
Windows crashes. It's a fact. How can you not realize it with things such as the registry and it's awful resource management is beyond me.
emperordarius 2 years ago
Windows crashes. So do Macs. It is a fact.
I never had any problems with Windows to the point where I had to reformat or mess with the registry to get it to run properly, which is something that I cannot say for my experience with Macs.
Something fucks up your permissions and you can't even consolidate your iTunes library.
Lervatsky 2 years ago 2
@Lervatsky Windows crashes very very often compared to Macs. For as long as I've used Macs I've never had any system crash, and when apps have crashes they haven't slowed down or frozen the whole system like in Windows.
"Something fucks up your permissions". Bullshit. Permission repairing has been proven to be a myth, so if you've gone so far to actually fuck up a Mac...well, you've got talent.
emperordarius 2 years ago
If you got to crash Windows with native apps then you are truly the special one here. You probably get to ride the special bus with all the special kids, too.
You say Windows crashes on you all the time? I say bullshit. Prove me wrong. If you think that I am lying about the iTunes permissions problem, I can point you to other people with the same problem I had.
However, all that aside, I think you are a troll who uses Windows and just acting like a retard for the "lulz". Like "SLKxMonsooN".
Lervatsky 2 years ago
"it's something which just HAPPENS. To ANYONE. Even by using only the built in apps"
Show me the proof, asshole. Show me Windows having problems with built-in apps.
You are a fucking troll.
Lervatsky 2 years ago
Everything is bound to have problems. UNIX itself was not originally designed with security in mind. Hence why of all the vulnerabilities OSX has. Charlie Miller even stated OSX security is inferior to Windows. The obsolete technologies? You tell 90% of the market they need to upgrade, see how well that goes.
The problem with Windows is malware, but with IE7/8, this malware will not auto download/install like IE6 did. But for you to blame the OS and not the user is total BS.
kaosum2 2 years ago 2
@kaosum2 OS X will never be less secure than Windows as long as there will be more malware on the second, ok? MALWARE is the biggest threat, NOT vulnerabilities.
On Windows malware manages to get through, no matter what browser or OS Version you use.
emperordarius 2 years ago
The reason malware gets through is because the user allows it (either by interaction *dumb user* or by insecure user account *weak password*). The OS itself is dumb, it cannot do anything without the user asking it to do something first.
As for security, a bunch of experts all say Windows is fundamentally more secure than UNIX. UNIX (and Linux and OSX) all have a staggeringly higher number of vulnerablities than Windows does. Just check out Secunia's site.
kaosum2 2 years ago
@kaosum2 The problem is that Windows gets infected even when the user does very little. Even just browsing the web on a Windows machine with no antivirus (at least) can be fatal. Which is absurd.
Vulnerabilities are as of today just stupid exploits which rarely do any real damage. Malware is what causes a lot of losses, not vulnerabilities.
emperordarius 2 years ago
@emperordarius
Incorrect without any antivirus software you can surf the web just do not go to untrusted sites.

Hmm maybe leo laporte should have given his advice to the guys who created avatar with adobe,LOL!!!!
Now which is better? Laportes shitty webcasts or Avatar, oh btw folks if you haven't seen Avatar u have 2 it's friggen awesome!!!
codebean 2 years ago
I seen Avatar or as I call it "Dances with Smurfs" it's ok, but that's my opinion, I'm not big on a lot of CG work, like having real acting. Like Pirates of the Caribbean that had a good mix of CG and real acting.
blacksteel25 2 years ago
Whether u liked it or not & thought it had too much cg & not enuff acting i can understand but in terms of cg & visual amazement it's some of the best i think i've seen in a movie especially watching it in 3d like i did :p
codebean 2 years ago
A lot of the Adobe products were used in the production of Avatar. I think they may have been using a Beta of CS 5. CS 5 will be 64 bit and make great use of CUDA.
Adobe has even anounced it will be ready in April.
adobePC 2 years ago
Go see the Avatar Making of video on adobe's website. Now, compare what they've used Photoshop, Ilustrator and After Effects for with what they've used Premiere Pro. They've basically done everything with those three apps, and just used Premiere to put the pieces together. So yeah, Adobe's Apps are the most professional and leaders of the industry, (except for Premiere and Soundbooth).
And BTW, you HAVE noticed that they only used Macs for Avatar, right?
emperordarius 2 years ago
they used macs because apple gave them a shit load of money to use them. think about it. your not going to spnd millions of your own money so if a company comes to you and says "here here our product you can use it for free" of course you are going to use it. its the same with product placement. if your making a movie and a company says there going to give you a few thousand dollars to show there product for 5 seconds your going to take it
dirtygore 2 years ago
@dirtygore Yeah sure, conspiracy FTW! Stop being such an idiot, I know professionals who use Macs and they don't use them because Apple gives them money. Do you really think a company like Apple gives a fuck about some show like this? Do you really think they hope to get that many customers this way? Now get you head out of your ass and accept the reality: Macs are better than PCs. Period.l

Don't quote me on this. I cant find the the clip now, but I'm all but certain I sew a video James Cameron talking about a deal he made with adobe to use the Beta version of cs5
