If you look at it, US problems with debt & deficits started under Kennedy. The US had maintained a good record of balancing its budgets under Eisenhower & the US has only balanced its budgets 4 times since then.

18B$ in today's money in the Federal Government is not that big of a deal as far as a deficit. You could wipe that out with solid Economic Growth.

The American Economy would be in a hell of a lot better shape if we had an 18B$ Budget Deficit. Instead of a 1.8T$ Budget Deficit which is what we have today.
