Fine journalism! ~ Not one mention of the fact that Bush/Cheney made sure this process did not fall under the jurisdiction of the Federal EPA. Only the state with it's (20?) employees. GET INFORMED PEOPLE. Check out the documentary, "Gasland".
Actually I've been reading a lot about shale NG and a good number of industry insiders are saying that there is a lot of hype going on around it by the companies that are developing these shale plays in order to help raise capital to drill these wells, that the economics are still in the proving stage, and they suspect declines in well production will be much faster than in conventional NG fields. As well current NG prices won't help matters. Just google "shale gas economics" for more info.
Guess who the EPA is going to hold responcible for the envoirnmental clean up long after the gas been extracted? The original owner of the property. Yea great folks you made a few million and your land is now a toxic waste site with polluted ground water. Your $ responcible for the clean up & you can't sell the land or grow anything on it. The new Repub Gov (2010) has made getting clearances easy. They don't even need your permission to drill any more. The Gas companies are playing you.
Very funny. A panel of like minded people salivating over profits. Well, go ahead and drill. At some point the water will have the final say. We can assume these people drink water.
And yes they may get rich and move elsewhere, but the earth is polluted all over at this point.
The other things is, their are no mining stations. See what I mean about peope that don't do their due diligence before speaking. Their called Pad sites for drilling.
Cont - before talking about things they have no clue about. Right now the state of Pa unemployement rate is near 10%. I make great money and pump my money right back into the community and local busines's. This is a great opportunity for Central PA to come out of this rut were in. The bottom line is there is to much money involved for PA. The state will be able to manage our budget and create new jobs for years to come. Mistakes will happen, tough regulations need and are being applied.
I work for a drilling company locally. I am also from Pennsylvania. The company I work for and the energy company that owns the lease to drill on is very safety concience. The state of Pa has a great base line to go off of from other states that have been drilled in. The state has to use this baseline for regulations so diliberate mistakes dont happen. Notice I said dilberate. Their will be mistakes from time to time. Peopel need to be a bit more open minded and do their due diligence,
I'd like to know by what right a handful of people have to make billions from these non-renewable resources. When it's gone, it's gone forever; then what? A hefty severance tax on the privilege of extracting these resources would at least benefit everyone.
Check out Quehanna Wilderness on wikipedia (Covers post ww2 history) . PSU has had interests in natural resources of North Central PA for decades. What will happen at Quehanna - maybe that U bomb will go off as once planned.
Not a single environmntally-minded person on the panel. I refused to sign one of the leases when it was offered, but all my neighbours did. They were completely ignorant to the fools' clauses written into the document, and of course were entirely unaware of the consequences to their groundwater and their communities.
All the land owners who accept these gas leases suffer from the
Jed Clampett syndrome... They think they're all going to get rich with gas lease royalties and they have no regard for how these gas companies are destroying the environment nor for their neighbors property and peace of mind! I don't know what's worse the Greed they suffer from or the Stupidity!!!
Is it known that not all Oil companies are Natural Gas Companies? There are many incorrect usages in the conversations especially considering the name of the video is called GAS Rush.
People in Pennsylvania, are smart to figure out how to minimize their tax, politicians are untrustworthy.
It is pretty obvious the moderator is a person of bias opinion, but in general this was a good discussion, but could have been better explaination of the RISK Gas companies are taking.

It's obvious to see which comments are from people who don't own land over the shale ;)

What about water pollution from Fracking?
They pump millions of gallons of water that included many poisonous chemicals with it.
