This song is really really wonderful! I am not from Michigan, my mother is though and I always loved going there to visit my Oma and Opa in Saginaw. One of my favorite places was Frankenmuth (does that make me a major non-Michigonian?).

People just dont understand the beauty of Michigan. I grew up there and moved away at 18 due to the tanking economy thanks mostly to the greed and mismanagement of the unions and automakers. It took a few years to realize the beauty I left. My parents took us up north almost every weekend during summer. Here 30 years later, I wish I could have been lucky enough to raise my kids there, but I would have had to accepted a life of poverty.

@xravisn I moved away too when I was 19. I'm 37 now and have kids of my own and there's no place I'd rather raise them than here. I LOVED growing up here. While I struggle to raise my kids, I don't regret moving back here. I have a job and while we'll never be rich.....we'll have some wonderful memories.

To represent the state of Michigan in its university settings, you only need the University of Michigan..the only one known world wide. Not many know of the school in Lansing in reality. Jane forgot to mention that the small basketball reference was so quick you pretty much miss it. Reason for that clear. Noone really cares. Another poster had it accurate: the grassy pictures can be by extension to show the cow pasture school in Lansing. To represent Michigan, all you need is U of M! Enjoy!

If you're from Michigan...a "Michiganian"...then you "get" this song and video. There are few states in our nation clearly visible from outer space...Michigan with her Great Lakes is one of the very few. There is nothing "hoke" about this song or the images; Michigan is a wonderful state and we're lucky to have been born there (at least) or to live there today. (Yes, the economy sucks at the moment) Count me an "expatriate" Michiganian living too far South....at the moment.

He would not have been my pick, but it is what it is. I hope he proves to be the right choice.
