grew up in nyc in the 40's moved and moved and never called anything home but now SAVANNAH and how Ella played it. Don't forget it's not what church you go to it's what do you drink.
The quality of a 78 in good condition, as this one is, is really quite admirable. The Youtube compression does it little justice. Most people to-day have never heard a 78 "in the flesh", and if they have, it was probably worn out, filthy and being played on inadequate equipment. People have the impression that it was ever thus, and don't realise that they actually sounded very good in their day, even on mechanical machines. The trouble is that years of grime and wear have not been kind to them.
Am I part of history then, lol. Have it tucked away up in my loft. I used to sing-along to this as a teenager and new every intonation of Ella's wonderful rendition - amazing lady!Wonderful to find thank you.
It's rare because 78 rpm was being phased out for LPs and 45s. currently cassettes , 8 tracks and commerical reel to reel have all been phased out. We now have CD's Super Audio CD's, mp3s etc. Technoly rolls along, but it's cool to see this. It's part of history! Plus I love this song from the movie Pete Kelly's Blues.
They don't make voices like this any more.......

too bad his name is Stephen Moyer. My guess is that that is not him singing. and no one will beat Ella Fitzgerald.
