Just to throw this out there, this isn't an insane amount for a microphone. The Neumann U87 (famous in the engineer world for being extremely versatile and for being used by Guns and Roses), Manley Gold Reference, and other amazing mics can range up to 10,000 dollars. And they are worth every penny.

He "pays" himself 90-100k a year (plus any other profits made).
