Rik used to sit on his front step at his family home in the Junction area of Toronto in the early '70's playing a classical guitar while my friend Jeremy ( Rik's next door neighbor ) and I would watch and listen with wonder. He was amazing in his youth as he honed his craft and continues to be amazing at this stage of his life. Gk
The guy is a virtuoso...I mean..a 12 string is NOT an easy instrument to master...and the lyrics to boot...not many "musicians" can do that. Not even back in the day.
masterful manipulation of the voice...we all know when we get older we lose the ability to hit the notes the way we used to 30 years ago, but Rik makes it work, and when the highest notes of his youth elude him, he chooses others that work just as well. That's the testament of a great singer...knowing your instrument and the limits of your ability, never exposing your weaknesses and building on your strengths. well done! would love to work with you again one day my friend.
I just love how much fun he still has, I would trade my current life, as a teenager who's parents have a steady income, NOT being able to see triumph (RUSH, which is still awesome, but not triumph) For that of a homeless man in the eighties, that saved up his money and was able to see triumph and RUSH once every year. I would literally die to be able to see Rik at his fullest, with the band. To be able to here their wonderful creation of music LIVE, would have been the greatest experience Ever.
I saw Triumph a long time ago, I saw the Man formerly known as Triumph, Rik Emmett, a long time ago too. I went to an awesome show in 2000, at the Hall's Guest House in Fort Wayne. Rik may remember my drunk bubby yellin "Rockin Roll Machine". Over, and over, and some more over. Rik, if you read this it was a GREAT SHOW!!!!!!!!! , and never forget, if your headed to Vegas, late at night, drinkin old scotch whiskey, that the limos RENTED.
wow the best front view of this show i saw so far............so awesome.....................gooooooooooooooo Miami Tonie.......so i can buy that guitar
Any other fans of Rik/Triumph in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, please contact me as this is a continued grassroots effort putting these shows together and reaching out to the fans. Rik's performance last Sunday was nothing short of incredible. In fact, Dave said "Epic"...I tend to agree.
Thanks For Ur Music Rik
