The chalo sulky is also a good riding cart. It is 2 wheels and it has a dorsal rod to attach the dog instead of the two pools which i find it much easier to get the dog used to. Also i find it bares less weight on the dogs back than this type not to say anything bad about this model. I got the Chalo sulky about 2 months ago and have been out riding several times a week and an loving it ...so does Mr Griffen ( my dog )
This cart does not come with 4 wheels. I have not tried any of the 4 wheel carts. They look comfortable and easy to maneuver. If you have a fast dog. I would use the sulky or a 4 wheel cart.
I have one of these carts. The 3rd wheel kept spinning at about 8 mph. Easy solution. I had the 3rd wheel fork welded and reinforced. Now I can go about 10 - 11 mph which is a nice trot/gallop and no weight on the doggies.
Now I pretend we're running the Iditarod.
PS. When training your doggies remember to keep the training happy, happy and happy - it can be really frustrating but trust that your dog/s will get it.
Really hoping to get into carting with my two Australian cattle dogs. How would you rate this cart? (I'm not too interested in speed. More how balanced it is, and if it keeps weight off the dog's back.)
The k9carting cart really caught my eye (and I love that it has a brake for added safety), but I can't find any reviews or comments about it.
This cart is good for slow moving dogs. The breaks are not strong enough for fast moving or very strong dogs. I relied on my dogs training to stop and a long breaking distance. It is heavy at 75lbs. Dogs have a harder time tuning with the side rails. They have to learn to push. If the dogs are getting any speed, the front wheel will slow them down. The dorsal hitch on my RJ walsh sulky is way better. I liked this cart and recommend it for slow moving dogs if you have an idea of what your doing.
Hooking up 2 dogs can be ugly if the dogs are new to this. They tend to push each other. Work each dog for awhile. Then mix the 2. If you have the money. I highly recommend the RJ Walsh Sulky,
I've tried my girl with a double shafted cart and she hated it, just made her too uncomfortable. I'm looking to make my next cart shaft-interchangeable, one single shaft (harnesses between) for two dogs and one overhead shaft for single or dual pulling.
I will be getting the cart shown in this video. However, I am concerned about the type of harness to buy along with it. Which type did you use? I read about how certain types of harness for this cart hinder the legs a little which could harm the dog; so, the siwash harness was suggested instead. I was wondering if I could get your opinion on this. Thank you.

In this video the large male is 100lbs. The cart is 75lbs and I was 225lbs. The large male pulls at 14 to 15 miles an hour. The female pulled 8 to 10 miles an hour. She is 75lbs. I started with this cart to see if the dogs were interested in the exercise. They continued to show improvements as I added more weight to the cart before I sat in it. I since upgraded to the RJWALSH Sulky Neiko the large male runs at 18 almost 19 miles an hour for 2 miles. They go nuts when I take the equipment out.
I'm looking to get my ACD/Shepherd/who knows into carting. He's currently 8 months 55lbs body score of 4 . He drags around a .5-1lb drag .5 miles max to simply get used to the sound and learn commands (he's got basic obedience, we're working on gee and haw w/o reins). I figured no real pulling until he was at least a year old
I've never done this particular type of training though I've trained for agility and freestyle, am I starting right?
Dont have him pull weigh over what youre doing until he is 2 years old. Most of a dogs structure is solid after 2 years old. I roller bladed with my dogs and got them use to the sound of wheels behind them. I used a harness and taught them to pull me on skates before I introduced a cart. This made my transition to a cart easier.
yes, The 3rd wheel is good for slow moving dogs. Take it off for dogs that want to trot or run. It will slow them down. If you really want speed, get a rj walsh sulky. I have another video or the dogs pulling me on that.
Where do u get the harness for this?I have an Australian Shepherd that i would love to train for this.

@usak9 and a four wheeled cart should take a bit of strain off of the dog

@usak9 Thanks so, so much for the fast reply and helpful information! Yeah, I'll definitely have to try them one at a time and build up to a cart!

what is the approx dog weight vs passenger + cart weight ratio? How much does this dog weigh and how much does the driver and cart weigh?
