There's just something special about reving the shit out of an engine that brings me so much joy.

Look, both of these cars are production cars, not racecars. BMW doesn't make cars to be faster than the rest. Surely, when you buy a car like an M5 or an RS6, you obviously want it to be very fast. Both cars are very fast, the RS6 is slightly faster, but to someone buying the car, and not racing it, the difference is negligible.
The M5 has nearly the same acceleration as the A6 without two turbos and almost 80hp less. Audi is great, of course. But to all these underexposed people who think " AUDI FUCKS BMW ": Guys, you have much to learn about cars and even more about real emotions. There are almost no manufactors who make such amazing engines like BMW does. In my opinion, there are only Porsche and Mercedes-AMG who keep up with BMW. :)

Personally I prefer the rs6 and let's remember is a de tuned Lamborghini engine so if you took the turbos off and re tuned the engine it would still beat the m5 ,and having had an m5 the inside is really basic and boring

Yeah right, audi's R10 TDI won the le mans with an engine they designed! BMW had nothing to do with the V12 engine that was used. Infact the Q7 6.0 TDI with audi's engine, that has nothing to do with BMW's or lambos engines, almost beats the M5 0-100mph (it lost for 0.1 sec i think), having less HP and weighting a lot more. You have no clue, stupid fanboy!

Anytime an Audi beats a BMW, BMW fans will always look for something to say as if the Audi engine is nothing powerful compared to the BMW's. The BMW fans are dwelling on past glory. Audi for the past 15 years has proved that they are coming up and their recent engines these few years are flawless. Everywhere you go these days are all full of Audi vehicles, why?? Most of their engines they got from other brands.Like R8V10 - Audi seen their own V8 engine was too low for their sportscar they take the engine of their daughterbrand Lamborghini. Normal Audi engines you can find in every VW. Bmw is the King of engine construction- Everybody who says another got no clue.
Just look at the poor fake of the M3´s engine in the RS5. Audi is a pure fellow-runner of Mercedes and Bmw.

But that on the side, new m5 has twin turbo 4.4 0-62 13 0-124 mph where old/current rs6 does 4.5 12.7, Audi r8 gt 3.6 no turbo BMW has no match for it or ever will, no BMW matches performance of Audi.

Ever will is a bald statement ... M4, M6, Z4M, M10, M8 ... all ready to go ... if BMW think they can make money of it. New cars tend to be faster than old, so as soon as RS6(C7) is out, it again might be faster than M5 (note, M5 is still not really out, but it's closer than 2014 for RS6)

@goguhu Australia most expensive country in the world, when you buy cars lets say R8 V10 you pay to near 100k just for tax than there is luxury government charges and so on... i had A6 90k A4 75k A1 40k and all sold out kept a3 for good work use A1 SPORT is 50k, but that is how it works. If you look at the figures of current RS6 to new M5 it is RS6 winner, just generally speaking Audi and Mercedes were responsible for inventing innovating cars, BMW and other just fallowed.

There's a little more to engineering than just a ton of HP, they have to make the engine reliable to last 100's of thousands of miles in various conditions.
Sure it may only have 60 more HP than the v10, but you could always turn up the boost to 800+ hp on stock internals, with N/A you don't have that luxury.

@LaenPvP So true, they all now are focusing on making a 'cool' engine but at the same time make them run for 100k+ without issues, and at the same time improve mileage. Those engines are actually very similar, and neither are bolting on large turbos, so they are not strung out. Who's in the lead is all about looking at the calendar ...
BMW ... Audi ... MB ... BMW ... Audi ... MB the ones that state one is better (always) will (always) be wrong. M's still have a better brand name though.

Considering that Audi have to use TWO turbos with a 5 litre engine to make 580Bhp, and BMW used ZERO to make 507Bhp from the same displacement.. I think BMW's engineers are probably better at their jobs.
Even the New M5 will be generating in the region of 590Bhp from a 4.4 litre Bi-turbo.... Audi can only dream of such wizardry/
