In the early 1990s, IC champions were placed almost on par with the WWF Champion, what with great matches like Warrior/Hogan at Wrestlemania 6 or Shawn/Bret at Survivor Series '92. This was the beginning of the end for the IC title.
no. The IC title was dead when Chyna won the belt. And yes, being IC champ at one time was considered a great milestone in WWF. Today the belt has lot damn near all credibility and class it once had. Best IC match ever was Bret vs Mr. Perfect at Summerslam.
i totally agree that the IC title has lost all of its glory.even after somone wins the world titles they get the IC belt. Back in the day the IC title was given to people who were great wrestlers and they defended the belt often while the world title holder just did PPV for the most part. the summerslam match was great, and the end was awesome. WM3 ic match was amazing too. I think the IC title turned to crap once they changed the look of the belt. rock had it first i think
I believe you are right with Rock having the newer version of the belt first. I too remember when guys like Bret Hart, HBK, Mr Perfect, HHH, Razor Ramon, and many others had the belt. usually, but not all the time, after somebody lost it, the next step was the WWF championship. These old videos of Sid really show the difference between the big guys of yesterday and today. Sid had more than size and strength. triple h is the smartest wrestler in the industry. first he became friends with shawn the top man in the industry. shawn introduced him to the other top guys (nash and hall), that got him noticed. then he managed to get with stephanie, that was the icing on the cake. so if triple h didn't have hbk and stephanie - he would've been average at best. but because of the links, he used it all to his advantage, used resources to the max. he's going to aim to be 20 time champion just so no1 can beat it.
Edge has ten years easily left in him.. and he already has 9 title wins.. so.. edge is easily going to have the record.. vince loves edge.. hell the WWE loves edge.. afer his work with the hardys in the late 90s and early 2000's.. however.. Triple H will probably suffer another career ending injury.. then come back again to try and hold onto whatever limited glory he has elft and be the new scott steiner(very poor in the ring and considered a joke on the mic even though its fucking hilarious)

I disagree that HBK was never boring, his DX '06 stuff was pretty lame and his feud with the McMahons around the same time wasn't great either. He was also a face for way to long, from his return in '02 to his feud with Hogan in '05 his routine got kinda stale especially since he is much better as a heel.
well i guess when i watch hbk, i can't forget everything before wrestlemania 14. but that shows his popularity, people still cheer him despite the fact that his character sometimes doesn't have to do over the top stuff except for in the ring where he's never disappointed. but i agree what you said about edge and the title is just losing it's value by the day. look at the amount of times the title changed before austin's first reign, it's like double since the attitude era. before it took years.
I totally agree about HBK in ring - no one has had as many great matches on the big stage as him, and he has had loads people don't even remember like at Survivor Series '03

Way to bury the Intercontinental Championship... WWE are such morons sometimes. In the early 1990s, IC champions were placed almost on par with the WWF Champion, what with great matches like Warrior/Hogan at Wrestlemania 6 or Shawn/Bret at Survivor Series '92. This was the beginning of the end for the IC title.

no. The IC title was dead when Chyna won the belt. And yes, being IC champ at one time was considered a great milestone in WWF. Today the belt has lot damn near all credibility and class it once had. Best IC match ever was Bret vs Mr. Perfect at Summerslam.

i totally agree that the IC title has lost all of its glory.even after somone wins the world titles they get the IC belt. Back in the day the IC title was given to people who were great wrestlers and they defended the belt often while the world title holder just did PPV for the most part. the summerslam match was great, and the end was awesome. WM3 ic match was amazing too. I think the IC title turned to crap once they changed the look of the belt. rock had it first i think

I believe you are right with Rock having the newer version of the belt first. I too remember when guys like Bret Hart, HBK, Mr Perfect, HHH, Razor Ramon, and many others had the belt. usually, but not all the time, after somebody lost it, the next step was the WWF championship. Hell even Ahmed Johnson was supposed to get a push after he was champion. King of the Ring also used to be a prestigious honor as well, now its a joke.

What do you mean "sold SID'S moves". A big guy like sSID whooping a tiny guy like hunter is more believable than vice versa. Id say SID was selling hunter's puny moves. Dont make things up just cause you're not a SID fan. SID IS A GOD type figure in wrestling. I dont know why some people dont see it. Probably all that dope and beer taking effect maybe. Gotta stay clear of that stuff to see reality.

These old videos of Sid really show the difference between the big guys of yesterday and today. Sid had more than size and strength. He was awesome on the mic with his intensity and made you believe that he was nuts. And you look at someone like Batista who has an overexaggerated physique and no charisma on the mic.

triple h is the smartest wrestler in the industry. first he became friends with shawn the top man in the industry. shawn introduced him to the other top guys (nash and hall), that got him noticed. then he managed to get with stephanie, that was the icing on the cake. so if triple h didn't have hbk and stephanie - he would've been average at best. but because of the links, he used it all to his advantage, used resources to the max. he's going to aim to be 20 time champion just so no1 can beat it.

Edge has ten years easily left in him.. and he already has 9 title wins.. so.. edge is easily going to have the record.. vince loves edge.. hell the WWE loves edge.. afer his work with the hardys in the late 90s and early 2000's.. however.. Triple H will probably suffer another career ending injury.. then come back again to try and hold onto whatever limited glory he has elft and be the new scott steiner(very poor in the ring and considered a joke on the mic even though its fucking hilarious)

yer i agree. as much as i like edge, i think he should've been champion 9 times in 10 years. look at hbk. he's better than edge, hhh and all the rest. yet he's got nowhere near the same record. it sucks. hhh is decent on the mic tho, its just we seen him too much now and its gotten borin. hbk was never boring whether as a face or a heel. i hope we can see more sides to edge. and hope hhh retires soon. or atleast steps down from the championship race.

That's because HBK is crazy over whatever he does, he doesn't need the title to get over, Edge does, but I would have still rather seen 5 longer title runs than 9 short ones.
I disagree that HBK was never boring, his DX '06 stuff was pretty lame and his feud with the McMahons around the same time wasn't great either. He was also a face for way to long, from his return in '02 to his feud with Hogan in '05 his routine got kinda stale especially since he is much better as a heel.

well i guess when i watch hbk, i can't forget everything before wrestlemania 14. but that shows his popularity, people still cheer him despite the fact that his character sometimes doesn't have to do over the top stuff except for in the ring where he's never disappointed. but i agree what you said about edge and the title is just losing it's value by the day. look at the amount of times the title changed before austin's first reign, it's like double since the attitude era. before it took years.

That's fine, just realize back in this era alot of names were TRYING to make their claim so there was alot of kayfabe breaks and attitudes backstage that wrestlers wouldn't even phathom of doing these days since it's the only big mainstream company.
