  • id KILL for pretty is as preety does.....

  • video for ''litany...''.where is it?owned by some bitter record company or some such thing?

  • @pellmj1 It was taken down because WMG claimed a copyright violation.

  • Man I miss these guys (And Gal) Great live band to boot. They just don't make em' like Guadalcanl Diary any more. On a side note, this band caused me to learn more about the battle of Guadalcanal.

  • Thank you for posting this. I used to play this song to end my shift on college radio in '99.

  • Worst video ever, but I still like the song.

  • Ce sont les jours! Cette bande secoué! Revenir, revenir, je veux être à nouveau les 17!

  • Great song. Great band.

  • what an absolutely KICKASS band. What a beautiful song. Too bad I've listened to it so many times; it will never be the same for me again.

  • the dude watering the grass is my uncle!!!

  • Guadalcanal Diary!!!

  • Anybody know why I can't buy the album "Flip-Flop" that this song is from? All the other Guadalcanal Diary albums are for sale, but that one must be caught up in some weird copyright battle...

  • @aw1tt3 Try Amazon. Found it there for ya. Still have miy original from 1990. Enjoy!!!

  • Thank you, happy to see this is back up and available!

  • looks cold.

  • Holy SHIT!! I didn't even know a video EXISTED for this! What a great song....thanks!

  • its back!

  • this is just awful.. it makes the song sound bad, and it isnt at all.

  • Someone please post the Litany video..if there is one.

  • I had posted it before but BMG claimed copyright and You Tube disabled it.

  • @Oat57

    WMG not BMG.

    Like Warner even cares.

  • Probably my favorite song by Guadalcanal Diary -- it reminds me so much of childhood in the 1970s.

  • One of my favorite songs by a great band.

  • Jeez!

    2 whole songs on Youtube!

Is someone actually afraid of losing sales?

Seemed that free MTV exposure was pretty good to some bands.

  • Ho cares where they came from - this is greeat indie rock 80s style

  • oh man college days soundtrack..

  • I love Murray Attaway!!! I used to see him hanging around Decatur, GA - what a voice - Murray sing for us again, please.

  • Great Band. Too bad they didn't do more. I saw them when they got their start.

  • i LOVE this band...too bad they only made 1 album :(

Thanks for putting it on youtube, ^_^

  • actually 4 albums, Walking in the Shadow, Jamboree, 2x4, Flip-Flop. They also had a live album about 10 years later called Your Birthday Party. And yes, they were sooooo good.

  • was a die hard REM fan. Saw these guys open for REM in Santa Barbara in the mid 80s and they CRUSHED REM. It was unbelievable. Step your game up! Suck it up. Dig deep and come back.

  • cool early 90's guadalcanal song... really love this one coz nice rhythm.. simple cool wavy music... always saturday gives back new wave memories... play it back again.. thumbs up

  • This is actually from 1989. Remember it from my last year in school. Great song and memories.

  • When I saw them live the guitar player cam on stage in his flannel pajamas. If was a lot of fun.

  • anyone know of any more guadacanal diary clips on youtube? i can't seem to find any

  • i used to have "flip flop" and "2x4" on cassete and played them constantly but they've long since worn out. I can't find new copies on cd anywhere, god i loved this band! thanks so much for posting

  • boganlewis, you can get them from Amazon.

  • @boganlewis My bro and I loved GD-- he has search for "flip flop" and "2x4" on any format, on and off for years and come up empty handed.

  • such a great song, such a great group! they are still alive in my record collection, cd and my ipod!

  • Damn. So many great memories associated with this song. Such a great time. So glad someone posted this.

I wish I lived in a shopping mall.

  • I really like Guadalcanal Diary, but have you ever noticed that videos like this--depicting the banality of suburban life (think Blackhole Sun)--are apparently shot in Southern California? Maybe that's why I left.

  • the band is from georgia (and where the video was probally shot). (notice the cold breath)They have lots of palm trees in south carolina and georgia (not only so. ca.) and banality is not confined to suburban life or so. ca. (although both are very good at it.)

  • trust me.. that is filmed in southern California. Georgia nor SC have palm trees like those, let alone the homes are typical southern california. I should know. I was born and raised there before moving to atlanta in 1992. I have to wonder if you think this could have been filmed in the south.. where are you from? Cause youre not from Georgia or So Cal.Thats obvious.

  • I just re-watched this a few times, and though there are no palm trees in north Georgia, I do think this may have been shot in at least 2 locations. So you both may actually be right.

  • "the banality of suburban life" -- it's the banality of American life. You're safe, you've got some space around you, and you're slightly bored. That's a GOOD thing, man, compared to living in Palestine. There's much more variety of food and entertainment in the banal US than in banal Japan. As long as you don't have to live near religious communities, life's very good. If you dislike banal USA, you should try living outside of it for a while... you'll start seeing the good points.

  • @saotube

chill. I love the US. I love Belgium. I love France. Life ain't perfect anywherer. Better some places than others. Pray for those in the others.

  • sorry rokvoxxx! i don't think,it's a good"commentaire",PARDON!!

  • Ive been looking for this song for YEEEEARS!! THANK YOU!

  • Another WLIR mainstay.

  • "dare to be different"!!!!!!!!!

  • Very, very few songs have the poetic touch in lyrics like this one. Great, great song in a lot of ways.

  • I loved this video when I was in high school. Now I'm hypnotized again, watching the band watch the cherubic man water his lawn.

I used to think they were fascinated by the result of the watering. Now I think they're staring from a life of touring, watching humans be normal and realizing they aren't. They feel too jaded to do the same.

Then the band gets its own lawn and each comes to ground, ready to settle down. The hint is there: this was their last album.

  • This song got me through college!!

  • Thank you SOOOOOOOO much for posting this! Love the song, love the video!

  • I wanna live where its like today!!!!

  • Guadalcanal Diary ROCKS !!!!

  • I miss this band! got to see them live...incredible drummer.

  • YAY!!! Finally!!!!

  • thanks for posting this - i can only hope it'll stay on and maybe some tweener or twentyish kids will take heed of consumer culture (albeit from 16 years ago) and hit the states in another direction. ALLMARTS are bottomless and useless - for christsake forge a new culture!

  • awesome

  • I can only echo others. I'm SO glad this has been reposted! THANKS!!!

  • It was on here awhile back, but the powers that be took it off. I had it in my favorites and then, it was gone. Now back in my favorites again. Thanks.

  • I've been waiting for this video to be posted.... finally!!!!

  • The most underrated band of this era, but one of the best.

  • I haven't seen that one in years! Thanks for posting.
