Man I miss these guys (And Gal) Great live band to boot. They just don't make em' like Guadalcanl Diary any more. On a side note, this band caused me to learn more about the battle of Guadalcanal.
Anybody know why I can't buy the album "Flip-Flop" that this song is from? All the other Guadalcanal Diary albums are for sale, but that one must be caught up in some weird copyright battle...
actually 4 albums, Walking in the Shadow, Jamboree, 2x4, Flip-Flop. They also had a live album about 10 years later called Your Birthday Party. And yes, they were sooooo good.
was a die hard REM fan. Saw these guys open for REM in Santa Barbara in the mid 80s and they CRUSHED REM. It was unbelievable. Step your game up! Suck it up. Dig deep and come back.
cool early 90's guadalcanal song... really love this one coz nice rhythm.. simple cool wavy music... always saturday gives back new wave memories... play it back again.. thumbs up
i used to have "flip flop" and "2x4" on cassete and played them constantly but they've long since worn out. I can't find new copies on cd anywhere, god i loved this band! thanks so much for posting
I really like Guadalcanal Diary, but have you ever noticed that videos like this--depicting the banality of suburban life (think Blackhole Sun)--are apparently shot in Southern California? Maybe that's why I left.
the band is from georgia (and where the video was probally shot). (notice the cold breath)They have lots of palm trees in south carolina and georgia (not only so. ca.) and banality is not confined to suburban life or so. ca. (although both are very good at it.)
trust me.. that is filmed in southern California. Georgia nor SC have palm trees like those, let alone the homes are typical southern california. I should know. I was born and raised there before moving to atlanta in 1992. I have to wonder if you think this could have been filmed in the south.. where are you from? Cause youre not from Georgia or So Cal.Thats obvious.
I just re-watched this a few times, and though there are no palm trees in north Georgia, I do think this may have been shot in at least 2 locations. So you both may actually be right.
"the banality of suburban life" -- it's the banality of American life. You're safe, you've got some space around you, and you're slightly bored. That's a GOOD thing, man, compared to living in Palestine. There's much more variety of food and entertainment in the banal US than in banal Japan. As long as you don't have to live near religious communities, life's very good. If you dislike banal USA, you should try living outside of it for a while... you'll start seeing the good points.
I loved this video when I was in high school. Now I'm hypnotized again, watching the band watch the cherubic man water his lawn.
I used to think they were fascinated by the result of the watering. Now I think they're staring from a life of touring, watching humans be normal and realizing they aren't. They feel too jaded to do the same.
Then the band gets its own lawn and each comes to ground, ready to settle down. The hint is there: this was their last album.
thanks for posting this - i can only hope it'll stay on and maybe some tweener or twentyish kids will take heed of consumer culture (albeit from 16 years ago) and hit the states in another direction. ALLMARTS are bottomless and useless - for christsake forge a new culture!
It was on here awhile back, but the powers that be took it off. I had it in my favorites and then, it was gone. Now back in my favorites again. Thanks.

Probably my favorite song by Guadalcanal Diary -- it reminds me so much of childhood in the 1970s.

Is someone actually afraid of losing sales?
Seemed that free MTV exposure was pretty good to some bands.
