I've never seen a film more passionate than this one. I have a feeling that this film would've been made even if Burton and company were paid nothing.
This is absolutely beautiful, i know it seems like such a corny thing to say but when that "wipe transition" came up at 1:09 it brought a tear to my eye...he did it, tim burton did it. He made a genuine homage to films of the 1940s and 50s...
Ed Wood films always had decent structure and excellent pacing. That's not easy to do and many of today's big budget and critically lauded films could take a lesson from him. If he were starting out today any studio would be wise to hire him as a second (or third) assisant editor. Of course it should be stipulated that he never get within 100 feet of any set.
@TheTrianonmusic oh so you wanna make movies that have little to know effort obviously fake scenery and your favorite actor starring in it all. I didn't mean it as an insult but that is pretty much him in a single sentence
yep i've researched the ed wood films and it all seems to have gone downhill since "Orgy of the Dead", well tecnically it went downhill since he started. Poor Ed Wood. Eventually he just did pornos after that, and he should have kept with shity sci-fi horror flicks.
One of the things I love about this movie is Eddie's positivism. He always finds some way to turn every setback into an opportunity. Even if he's horribly inept at it, he never gives up, and he never gives in to pessimism.
@LordZontar An excellent analysis of why the film is more than just laughing at a failure - he is a heroic failure who never loses his dignity or spirit
Man, if only I was born in the 50's. Everything was so much more simple back then. No one cared about what actor was cheating on what actress. It was luxury to go to the movie theatre and see a horror movie. Nowadays people can do it whenever they want.
I'm not a Burton fan, but Sleepy Hollow and this are some of my favorite films. Ed Wood may have been a horrible director, but people who knew him claimed he had a big heart, and in the end he became someone, sure it's not exactley how he wanted to be remembered, but still.
way i look at it is ,stallone has been nominated for some many razzie awards and if im not mistaken has won over 4 times, and i think he was named worst actor ever, thats rocky your talking about ,know what i mean ,who cares what people say
bela lugosi its a shame is carrer was shit at dis time he was addicted 2 morphine old n washed up in a way ed saved his legacy as a great actor n FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you n fuck Karlof dat fuckin cocksucker can burn in hell 4 all i give a shit lol dats his best line dis whole movie
Some time ago I watched the first episode of "Mission: Impossible" in which Martin Landau played the Master of Disguise. In this episode Landau disguised himself as a Russian General and used an accent that sounds very much like the one he uses here. I don't know whether to call it fate, coincidence, foreshadowing...but regardless, he did an excellent job.
@RockBottomRiser21 I totally agree. Give me the stark beauty of a black and white movie versus the over the top bombardment of today's CGI colorful messes.
@RockBottomRiser21 yhat is not true on the commentary he said that the reason its in black and white is they couldnt decide how bella lugosi should look in color
Ed Wood is a famous director of cheapo movies in 40s and 50s who often had ridiculous ideas and is known for making a lot of "so-bad-theyre-good" movies. May not seem like a great person at first, but he doubtlessly influenced today's big directors like Tim Burton, Stanley Kubrick or David Lynch. And Béla Lugosi was super-famous horror movie star from 20s and 30s, the first actor ever to play Dracula, who Ed Wood was a huge fan of.
@777heyman I saw 1 question he didn't answer, his most famous movie. Well, after some movies, he decided to make porn flicks, but none of them are his most famous one, his most famous was his worst, Plan 9 From Outer Space. It's what he called 'so-bad-they're-good' and that movie showed it, its SO famous, that they made a colorized edition and possibly making a remake.
@777heyman there is even a video game for this movie, about you getting the film back from Lugosi's double because Bela died during the film and they had someone who looked nothing like Bela, except the top of his head
@kea919306 wah? Where did u get that? i would never compare Wood to Boll. Wood was imo a significant person for the 20th century pop culture, while Boll is just a sh1thead who just tries to make money by mindlessly puking the worst crap possible. after all he hasnt been mentioned here by me or anyone else. u sure u got the right video?
@BOnEhEAdD which is what im trying to get at Ed Wood was passionate about his films.Uwe Boll doesnt care.People often compare them but in reality theres nothing to compare to.
@abranthetimekeeper o really? i thot there was only Nosferatu before.. Im not exactly a horror expert, but i had that checked with cinemassacre*com - James Rolfe wouldnt be wrong about that...
(1) ed wood is a someone who has been called the worst film maker ever. (2) Plan 9 from outer space. (3) Bela lugosi is an actor who played in many horror old movies. (4) Dracula is his most fomous role but he was an amazing actor in his time.
Johnny Depp's acting nowadays has become very caricatured and reused characters. Thats why a lot of people are losing touch with him. its becoming a gimmick and a shtick. But in Ed Wood he is at his best!
It's usually too stylized for my taste. That he draws attention to the fact that he's acting. I do think that he's talented, and I do like him in other movies like "Donnie Brasco" and "Fear and Loathing...". Maybe it's just the movies he chooses.
I do like his acting, I'm usually just underwhelmed by the roles he plays. Sometime's it's not his fault, it may be the writer or the director who's to blame. But he plays Ed Wood to a "T".
ART INSTITUTE is a rip off ... my teacher goes there he says they dont care if u make it or not as long as they get u to attend and their money which is ridiculous amounts

No kidding! I'm a bit of a scholar studying the film genre as well, but though I would like to get into film, I am a rather late newcomer, what institute do you attend?
I'd love to get into film, maybe evn direct my own picture. Somehow, I can't help but find this movie to be a lesson of a personal message to me, that it better be serious what you want to do in when it comes to film.
Think really hard about it. Is this what you really want to do? If so, then look for a school that specializes in media arts (like mine) and get the education you need.
Another thing, think realistically. Don't have the attitude of "I'm gonna be a world famous director when I graduate", because you won't.
And I thought I was the one sounding retarded. And by the way, if you want to insult me don't come out of the closet. It's assholes like you that make me coming onto Youtube such a drag.
it's true. but now he's just lost in these computer-generated video games, ("fear & loathing" notwithstanding, one of my favorites and he and del toro's acting being the real special effects there. one of the funniest movies ever made because of their performances). and "public enemies" wasn't serious enough, (this movie seems more mature in comparison). tim burton really lost it after this, too, come to think of it. if only i had the chance i'd like to cast him in a real movie.
I've never seen a film more passionate than this one. I have a feeling that this film would've been made even if Burton and company were paid nothing.

it's true. but now he's just lost in these computer-generated video games, ("fear & loathing" notwithstanding, one of my favorites and he and del toro's acting being the real special effects there. one of the funniest movies ever made because of their performances). and "public enemies" wasn't serious enough, (this movie seems more mature in comparison). tim burton really lost it after this, too, come to think of it. if only i had the chance i'd like to cast him in a real movie.

Anyone else think that Lugosi's interpretation of vampires is why Twilight is such a big thing to girls?
