  • This is the best hang gliding video I've seen. And it's easily one of the best videos on all of YouTube. This could be part of an epic movie.

  • @pdutube Thanks. Watch the "New Narrated 38-mile Flight" for an improved version of that camera technique. I'm working toward making a worthwhile documentary.

  • very cool record and music , i dream , im a french novice hang glider men , and now i want buy 2 go pro !!!!!

  • @mayapi71 Thanks. Dual cameras are very nice!

  • Great looking video Jon.

    Now I want a A Go-Pro HD

Did you use to of the older Go-Pro cameras that don't have the 170 degree capability at 720 p ?

Wouldn't a single 170 deg get both wingtips in the frame ?

    Regardless , a very nice outcome !

Imagine a split screen / four angle camera mount, in real time !

As in Norman Jewison's The Thomas Crown Affair

    Crunch Crunch

  • Thanks. These are GoPro HDs. The effective FOV is 131º x 100º. 170º is diag. w/o lens cover which reduces by 6%. I remember the original Thomas Crown Affair very well. I may try 3 cameras for a true 285º FOV. Be sure to see my newer videos too,

  • Never mind that last question. I see your comments up top. Awesome video, Jon. Very nice.

  • Thanks. Be sure to check out my newest dual camera video.

  • Jonathan, what are you flying here? Sport 2?

  • Jon, You continue to bless the bird in me. Thanks. Lift, JoeF

  • Joe, Thanks again for nudging me out of my hibernation and back into the sport after 26 years.

    Cheers, Jonathan

  • Jon, this is a great idea. 5 stars. I may try this in the coming season. I'd like to put a link to this video on my website, with credits to you, if that's okay?

  • Jim, That would be great. There's also a higher res version on Vimeo that can be downloaded.

    Jonathan

  • * is skipping to the landing.. ;-)

now go for the 3d experience. make one channel red, the other green, and voila.... 3d

  • I use dual monitors angled in and stick my face in real close for a 3D illusion. ;-)

One day, I may get the software and align the cameras for red/green 3D.

  • Great idea Jon!

  • Thanks. Wait until I try this on my VK2.

  • This is a great video concept! Never seen it done. Interesting that the color balance is a bit different on the two cameras.

  • Thanks Jimbo. It's funny how the color balance changed during the flight. I was in a hurry to do the edit and decided not to fix it. The lost video file from the right camera was my fault from hitting the wrong button after I landed.

  • Jon, I did the HD 720p youtube and the Vimeo HD and for some reason Vimeo doesn't run as smooth. Even tried to back up a bit so that I wasn't crowding the download but saw no improvement. Is that jerkiness on my end vimeo's end?

  • Bill,

It's your PC. The bit rate on Vimeo is higher than the 720p bit rate on YouTube and overwhelms a lot of systems. It's also a compressed flv file that takes a lot of processor output to decode and play. This is why I use both video hosts.

    Cheers, Jonathan

  • dude ...that was only 1/2 a landing !

LOL !~ great video concept !

  • LOL! It was a half-assed landing. ;-)
