  • @yoshielectron

Okay.. Sorry if I caused you any stress

  • @supertrogdorman5252 You didn't.

  • @yoshielectron That's probably what it is. All I heard you talk about on this video was about the input going to the output and when you flip this switch there isn't any output. I don't really think of switches that turn on lights to be digital. It just sounds like circuits to me

  • @supertrogdorman5252 I should have perhaps explained better. Logic gates are circuits which produce an output based on its inputs-the logic gates are made up of transistors. But you can simulate some of the logic functions just with simple switches, so your reasoning was correct.

  • @yoshielectron

When you start to turn it down the amount of vibration picked up by the pickups is lessened. (I think) The pickups still pick up the same but the amount that reaches the output is less. When the knob is set to zero the vibration picked up by the pick-ups is stopped and doesn't reach the output

  • @supertrogdorman5252 That sounds more like an analogue control rather than digital

  • @yoshielectron

Where you talk an "all" switch, it sounds something like the volume knob on the guitar which doesn't actually affect the volume unlike the volume knob on the amplifier. I'm not really sure why it says volume on it...

  • @yoshielectron

I guess so, what you're explaining here sounds more like what is dubbed the "killswitch" which isn't common on most guitars having two pickups means having two killswitches which can open the circuit in between the pickup which would be the input to the output where you plug in a cable.

  • So this is pretty much the same technology used to switch inbetween the magnetic pick-ups on an electric guitar it seems. I have 2 electric guitars one with 2 pick-ups with a switch that has three posistions and one with 3 pick-ups and switch with five posistions

  • @supertrogdorman5252 That's interesting although they are probably just switches that act like logic gates.

  • Great vid man, great vid!!!

  • I know about Minecraft Redstone... Pretty much the same thing ;)

  • I know about guitar electronics...

I haven't thought about it lately though

  • probably gonna have to remember this when playing littlebigplanet 2 :P

  • This is such an awesome video, James. I swear, you're getting me very interested into electronics of all kinds! Has anyone ever told you that you have a nice narrative voice? 10/5 stars. I'd sure like to learn more about electronics. I'm going to take classes.

  • @jeremyshaw Thank you, I'm always here to help.

  • @yoshielectron You're welcome and thank you.

  • Did you say Happy at 0:45

  • @WeirdCandycain If the switch is up that will be...

  • lol the captions are very funny. Nice video!

  • Huh?

  • I have just enough experience in circuits to really understand this.

  • @ghostlink2027 Did you do it as a hobby or at school?

  • @yoshielectron I did it mostly on some accademic trips I've been on but I have taken a few days worth at school this past fall. I'm in a 9th grade Physics class, which is actually getting pretty hard. We've just started with energy and work and such, but I can tell we're going back to circuits soon.

  • @ghostlink2027 I'm sure you'll do well.

  • @yoshielectron I hope I did... we just had our chapter review test today.

  • now i see

  • whooo i love logic gates

  • Hmm, Cool.

  • i get the concept, but i don't get what it is used for. what is it for? (sorry if I sound like a noob)

  • @TheTrakkOursoniss Logic gates on their own can be used to make simple decisions such that, for e.g., an alarm is activated if it has been enabled AND a set time has been reached. Logic gates can also be used together to form much more complex circuits including processors. As you are using your computer, the software is using logic to work out what to do.

  • 0.45 "happy!"

  • Is this related to Cola automats? (sorry for bad english)

  • @oligi3008 Sorry I've not heard of that.

  • @yoshielectron For example when cola is empty, a red light is on, then when diet coke is empty another red light is on! When everything is empty, it says sold out! :D

  • @oligi3008 I get what you mean. Yes that is logic but the difference is that it will be done more in software using logic functions.

  • iv done all this in physics except the nand gate

  • I love logic gates. I use them all the time in programming. xD

    Show XOR and XNOR next!

  • @OniLink10 I plan to do a video about adding which will involve XOR.

  • @yoshielectron Adding? With XOR? I MUST SEE THIS!

  • @OniLink10 Yes, if you look at the XOR truth table you will see it adds up 2 1-bit numbers. i.e. 1+1=1 then carry the zero to make 10 (i.e. 2).

  • @yoshielectron Yea, I've always known about the XOR seemingly "adding" two one-bit values, but what I mean is, I have no idea how to do that AND find out if a one goes in the next position! It's probably obvious, though.

  • @OniLink10 You just have an AND gate with the 2 1-bit numbers as its inputs. That way it will produce the carry of 1 when both inputs are 1.

  • @yoshielectron As in Binary base numbers? Like in binary, 1+1 = 10. I never knew circuits were used like this. 0.o I LEARN SO MUCH FROM WATCHING YOUR VIDS!!! :D

  • Very nice and intresting :D

    5 Stars

Wait no I mean I LIKE This video

Sorry James I just hate the new youtube update getting rid of 5 stars was ridiculous

  • @thomas1999 I liked the star system as well.

  • How far do you plan on going with these tutorials?

I've always wanted to mess around with microcontrollers in particular. If you've played around with them, would you recommend I start with something like an Arduino, or a PIC-based devboard?

  • @velocity37 Although I still haven't got into microcontrollers myself, I've heard good things about PICs and there is plenty of information about them.

  • how long did it take to learn all this?

  • @NEONMARIO7764 I've been doing electronics as a hobby for over 10 years.

  • You should become an electrical engineer professor :)

    Keep up the great work.

Also, can you help me with making a N64 portable, I'll email you if you don't mind.

Thanks for these video's, James. They're really interesting, helpful, and I just love them.

  • @davem314 I would like that. Yes, please do email me and I'll help the best I can.

  • Did you go to any schooling for this?

  • @FlyKeithFly No, I taught myself.
