  • aun no comprendo proque marr proque???? tan bien q estban todos con the smniths habia otras ofrmas de arreglarlo todo but..en finn

  • "They meant it" - and so did I. Even with my heroes, the big fellas, JM is in the top five. I bought the vinyl in the Smiths last days. NME was right when it said that "nothing will come this high, or deep, ever again." Or similar.

  • You really can tell he's Noel Gallaghers idol!

  • My musical hero. Thanks for the great tunes Johnny ! You literally changed my life. (I hate to be so cheesey, but he did).

  • @sirka067 You've provided the "cheese," so I guess I've brought the "crackers," mate!!! I LOVE Johnny Marr too and I remember hearing them way back in the 80's,,,, was SOLD for life! Yerp, they changed my life, as well (the crackers to your cheese)!!! Cheers, love! - J

  • I could be sitting here watching Noel Gallagher talking! What a bunch of rip off, same 3 chord repitition artists Oasis are. Bunch of cunts. Fuck them.

STONE ROSES - PLANET EARTHS GREATEST EVER

  • @bigderekkeene how how? the stone roses arent nearly as good as the smiths

  • @MattHXIV I love the Smiths, but the Roses are a class apart

  • @MattHXIV The stone roses shit on the smiths

  • @JamesD567 how they are good but the second album wasnt that great. marr > squire, morrissey > brown. only better thing is manis bass

  • @MattHXIV Marr hands down > squire. Morrissey lyricly is better then brown, but as a front man and vocally I prefer Ian. All in all two great bands.

  • @JamesD567 ah well both Lancashire (really manchester is and so is liverpool for that matter) bands

  • @MattHXIV i feel like liverpool and manchester are the #1 places for underground scenester following music ever

well, at least for the 20th century

  • what do i get, and shot by both sides.....I have the records yeah!

  • Amazing guitarist one of the best of all time if not the best

  • @rrhynes Jesus Christ

  • @rrhynes His haircut is sublime you nonse

  • @ainsleywalker Sublime? Subpar? Subhuman? Same sub.

  • the chameleons- enough amazing manchester band

  • love U JM!!!!!

  • There is a light that never goes out should not be played as background music.............ever

  • such a great guy. luv him.

  • Comment removed

  • Why I'm in love with you after all these years I DO NOT KNOW!

    But apparently I am.

So much going to the Wedding Present concert today.

Because we're alle growing old and we're all growing cold.

    I do love the guitar.

  • hi im johnny MARR and I play the guiTAR

  • @narcher91 lol i thought that too

  • I had to stop listening to this. Why, oh why, is there background music? Why? I don't get it.

  • if this was a vote for coolest mancunian johnny is the man !!!

  • Johnny Marr's Family come from Athy Co Kildare in Ireland

  • the preview box made him look like Gene Simmons with the sunglasses :(

  • absolutely love LOVE Johnny Marr.

  • Fuckin' hell, it's a ten minute video, do you really have to stretch out "There is a Light..." through the whole thing?

    Good interview though.

  • @ganstahfosho hahaha! yes! thats funny as fuck

  • Now then, what can I write? Something stupid like 'Johnny Marr rocks'? Well. Frankly he does. Amazing guitar player. Had a lot of time for the neurotic hit beat combo he was in with Mike Joyce, Andy Rourke and Morrissey, but thikin about it all sensibly you have to admit that it was a wise time to move on. Oh, and by the way, interesting video you've put together here but it would have been far more easier on the ear without the Smiths track prattling on. All the best Johnny.

  • @sminkyminky - It's hard for me to accept your premise that it "was a wise time to move on." The Smiths were still creating brilliant music and were showing no signs of slowing down. I loved "Strangeways." They broke up more due to Marr's unhappiness than anything else. Should they have taken a break after the Queen is Dead tour? Yes! Timely break-up? No! I don't care for much of what Marr has done since. He hasn't done anything since that matches what he accomplished with The Smiths.

  • @RoadWarrior35 - I respect much of what you say. Like many, I was gutted when they split. Yeah, some time out would have been preferable (for the fans). I was just thinking that its better to shine brightly and leave on a high, rather than burn out and fade into oblivion. Of course, it's arguable whether or not this would have happened. I'm not too sure any of them have done anything since that matches what they accomplished together. Cue vitriolic criticism from devout Morrissey fans...

  • REMEMBER Johnny ------- Thanks to Morrissey's lyrics!

  • johnny Marr I whished you'd stayed whit Moz your career could of been better you guys made good ass music but you know what I love Moz I whish you the best johnny Marr you are a great musician

  • The Smiths all though classic in terms of instrumentation and song construction, had something very fresh and different about their sound....I think it was largely due to Morrisseys lyrics and delivery; completely unique in that respect.....they date very well and will never sound old fashioned in my opinion X

  • @clean3 Yes, it's the voice and singing style of Moz. But it's also in the guitars. Strangely I have never heard anything that sounded close to Marr's guitar or Rourke's basslines, not in the playing, but neither in the sound.

  • @Reint25 The Byrds? George Harrison? Bert Jansch? That aside, Johnny is a terrific guitarist....certainly one of my favourites.

  • @clean3 Even though I can hear how all these guitarists influenced Johnny, I'm not hearing the same patterns. A riff like Handsome Devil, Still Ill, Ask or Hand In Glove... to me it sounds ike it came from nowhere.

  • Boo, Cribs didn't make it to Coachella.

  • Sorry Johnny, but the Cribs were truly awful in Perth Australia recently, and the singer berating an audience member just because he only wanted your autograph is pathetic !

  • @gazmoid , i agree with you , the cribs are shit , with an ego to match, i dont know what marr is doing with them , hes wat to good

  • that fucking song in the back just won't end

  • @0248959 LOL.

  • Useless! My mind wndered so much during this interview; I'm sure you can relate. Love Johnny. He is the best.can't wait to see him at Coachella.

  • @wheetabixx you suck! take me with you!!!! hey, how are you?

  • Marr looks like Noel? No way man, Noel Gallagher looks like Marr, he is Noel's hero man. And Ian brown is not like Liam Gallagher, Liam wants to be like Ian.. It's all good but get the time line right man!

  • i want to speak like a person from manchester

  • He looks like Noel Gallagher.

  • Noel Gallagher looks like him

  • Touche'.

    I am ashamed of myself.

  • @gamegod193 similar sort of accents too

    both GODS

  • pwned

  • @gamegod193 Nowhere near the guitarist, but I did hear in an interview that Noel says he styled himself on J Marr...dont ya love superfluous trivia?

  • @gamegod193 lol go check out MV for The Cribs - We share the same sky. he looks exactly like Noel in that vid.

  • @gamegod193 Noel Gallagher wants to BE him... (:o)

  • @gamegod193 no noel gallgher wants to look like him

  • @gamegod193

Yeah. And Liam looks like Ian Brown.

Oasis basically copied their idols style. They're the most unoriginal band of the 90's. Awesome sound, though.

  • @lucaslmgv agree completely. pure and utter ripoff artists. noel thinks he's johnny marr. personally, once i got past my teenage years, oasis just didn't cut the mustard anymore.

  • @jbdean55

I still like it. But now I don't get pissed of when somebody says their rip offs, because I've learned they really are. =X

  • @gamegod193 I'm glad that you said that, and not "he looks like Noel Gallagher".

  • @gamegod193 hes noels idol !

  • @lemonlorry Noel gallagher looks like Marr, he's Noel's hero... don't turn things around.

  • Johnny Marr: Great musician with great taste in music :)

  • what glasses are those

  • Thanks, Johnny, for pronouncing Oregon right. :-)

  • its not as bad as when people say warshington.

  • people with such an overwhelming passion for what they do are often boring to those who don't share a similar passion. most musicians aren't musicians because they express their ideas with flashy rhetoric. let me apologize for johnny marr for not being the flamboyant eccentric maniac you may be accustomed to seeing.

  • hes better than you

  • @blackfrancis55 yep, needs editing.

  • i honestly like johnny marr. great musician. just this interview is boring as hell. he saves his "flashy rhetoric" for the guitar i suppose. just please don't pretend this is a great interview. as another says, "it needs editing."

  • What a guy.

  • Johnny Marr...unbelievably cool and the best guitarist, period.

  • oasis so overrated its unreal. most people my age think there the greatest band ever but there just so cheesy and shit. cant beat the smiths just perfect. best singer songwriter ever...best guitarist ever, best bass and drummer ever

  • Haha I can take best guitarist ever and best songwriter, but no fucking way is andy o'rourke the best bassist ever or whoever the drummer is the best at what they do.

  • johnnys a good guy.

  • Johnny Marr and Noel Gallagher are both legends. And seen as they have worked together they obviously have a mutual respect for eachother. It's not about who is better, just shut up and listen to their great music. The Smiths and Oasis forever!!!!

  • noel is overated not wrote a decent tune in over a decade.

  • HEEEEEEY Lyla!!!! yes he has, i remember seeing them play it on french TV, like really loud, i thought it was a long intro and then it went into the chorus in the same rithm and it wasnt a long intro it was just a huge song... In Lyla you can see the Beatles ifluence but it's filtered really well, and it rocks! So he has writen a great song in the past decade...

  • both marr and noel don't have that strong of manchester accents anymore.

  • San Remo. Different man.

  • Johnny & Noel are absoloute legends & hero's music & style wise (guitar & clothes haha)

  • A-N-D

  • 'A-N-D' that's my point.

  • he even act like noel

  • you mean noel even acts like him

  • noel said that johnny was one of his biggest influences from the haircut to the shades to the guitar.

noel isn't a great guitar player hes average

however he is a great muscian and is able to create songs because he is good at everything. arranging, lyrics, guitars, drums, bass, singing.

  • you said noel isnt a great guitar player. and then you say he's great at guitar?

  • i said hes good. i said he isn't great

    great= hendrix, townshend, marr, etc

  • ahh k.

  • Whilst resisting the overwhelming urge to insult you and that comment, might I suggest that it's the other way around.

  • Noel and Johnny are both legends.

  • it sounds like there are an awful lot of people commenting this video that do not know what they are talking about, so please just shut up and enjoy the music.

  • noel aint worthy of tuning marr's guitar mate!!

  • Aww I love his accent (:

IDK why, mines a yorkshire one and its rubbish.

  • Noel's a very good guitarist and as everyone has said he's not as good as Marr BUT Noel comes into his own on song writing!

I don't agree with the person who said Noels will age more than Marrs, Oasis songs are modern classics and when they are long gone everyone will look back and realise just how good they were, they are very under appreciated at the moment aside from their fans e.g. me!

  • did johnny marr leave modest mouse

  • he's still a member but he's just touring with the cribs at the mo

  • So great to see Johnny still doing what he does best and having the same thrill out of it as when he started..... gladdens my heart....this man is my musical hero...

  • I can´t tell if Noel Gallagher looks like Johnny Marr or if Johnny Marr looks like Noel Gallagher! Aaaarrrggghhh! I grew up loving Oasis, but you can´t compare the skills of Marr with Noel. Noel was a great chord songwriter who struck a chord with a generation, but is no way near as good a guitarist as Marr or as good a melody maker. Noel´s music will age worse than Marr´s. for sure. But then Marr´s music needed Morrissey just as Noel´s needed Liam.

  • Talking about Manchester all-time tracks/bands and so forth with no mention of THE CHAMELEONS???? Incomplete... Burgess & Co. rule...

  • annoying how they've got to play a backing track over this. 1 star.

  • he's good in Modest Mouse

  • u cant say that noel gallagher has based hes guitar style on marr.. he might well hav tried but noel is shite lol,,, no where near as good on the guitar as jonny marr

  • m a big oasis/gallagher fan, but no one can be as good as marr

  • Noel may not be the best guitarist ever, I'll admit that Johnny is definitely better than him, but Noel is not shite. He's one of the most intelligent men I have ever known of. Every interview he's in, he says something amazing. I've learned a lot from him. So basically, you're half right. lol.

  • Marr aint as gd a jimmy page or jimi hendrix, does that make him shite? corse it fukin doesnt mate, so dnt start sayin noel gallagher is a shit guitarist wen its a FACT hes a brilliant guitarist(not as good as marr i agree), and imo hes a better songwriter than marr

  • Well you're a tool! Noel is a decent guitarist considering he doesn't know what chords are what, he can't read music and is completely self taught. And as for your remark on Marr, not even Marr is as good as he is.

  • behave ya self silly boy... if u think noel is a better guitarist than marr then ure a moron mate,,, an u must not know anything about music... go an listen to a couple of smiths songs an come back to me wen u can play ONE of em !!!!

  • Where did I say Noel is better than Marr? The two are incomparable. To say Noel is shit is a ridiculous statement and proves that you, yourself know very little about music. Also, what songs would you recommend? Sheila Takes A Bow? Shakespears Sister? Wiliam, It Was Really Nothing? Or do you mean the two everyone knows and are far from their best in There is a Light and This Charming Man?

  • "And as for your remark on Marr, not even Marr is as good as he is. ",, theres ure statement sayin marr isnt as good as noel..... if u knew anything about music youd know that noel wouldnt make the top 50 in a list for britains best guitarists an thats a fact.... as for the smiths songs.. try an play what difference does it make,, how about the start of how soon is now,,, noel wouldnt be able to get close to them 2 songs alone... simple !!!

  • Well done for misinterpreting my comment about Marr. It's derived from Noel himself who said Marr is a wizard and can't even play what he plays he's that good. Also; where did I say I was a guitarist? I don't believe I did, proving you can't read and as such are incapable of it. Noel himself has said nobody can recreate the Johnny Marr sound and if you don't believe me find a video called Noel Gallagher on The Smiths where he says what I've reiterated here.

    Tit

  • It's not as interesting as dishwater, mate. It's shat.

  • Ha ha, you're havin' a laugh, pal. Like the other fella says, he's not fit to tune Marr's guitar.

  • Quite the opposite; Noel is more than capable of tuning Marrs guitar. Afterall, Noel was a roadie with the Carpets before joining Oasis

  • you can tell noel gallagher has based his whole personality and body language and guitar style on this fella

  • You are absolutely right!

  • his guitar style, not so much but noel gallagher absolutely idolsed johnny marr - no doubt about. but marr's guitar style is very subtle, he rarely plays guitar solos so to speak, whereas noel in oasis doesnt other stuff.

  • jonny marr's guitar style is about as subtle as a shot gun blast to the face!!!marr is the best!!!

  • Not really...Noel is shit at guitar. Johnny however is not.

  • Noel is by no means "shit at guitar". There is no point bringing Noel into this, the two shouldn't be compared - Noel is a brilliant songwriter, his style doesn't ask for a great guitar part - Marr's style is different, he is a very clever guitarist and is well, alot different to Noel. I think it is a silly remark to say noel is shit though.

  • He is not a talented songwriter he just rips of other bands stuff...

  • yawn... there is no point in me replying if you are that short sighted!

  • So? Didn't the Smiths lead singer Morrissey take verses from poems etc?

    What's the problem?

  • Spot on. Gallagher wouldn't class himself in the same league as Marr as a player, but he does the full job on his songs. I couldn't care less for what N.Gallagher does musically, but respect him as much as anyone. To say he's "shit at guitar" generally means.. "I"ve learnt the G/D and Em chords so what's so special about that". Answer... Go on then you little sh@t, you change your life and those of countless others with them.

  • A genuinely humble and honest bloke, which is quite refreshing for a musical genius. I think there was divine intervention at work throwing Morrissey and Marr together. They didn't write one duff song.

  • Why do they repeat the same song over and over in the background. It's an awesome song but it's gonna ruin it listening to it too much.

  • "Hi, i'm Johnny Marrr... I play the guitarrr..."

    lol, rhymer :)

    love him and the smiths

  • Haha, I was thinking the same. Where's the beat?

  • u can tell he's lived stateside a for a few years...

  • Which band does he mention at 5:07?

  • Oh, I found it myself. It's 808 State.

  • Ooops, sorry, missed that :-p

  • 808 State - they were a Manchester acid house group from the late '80s and early '90s

  • yessssss johnny marrrrrrrrr

  • Hell yesssss Johnny Marrrrr!

  • the man is flawless.

  • the smiths were just remarkable.

  • this is new generation lennon n mcartney

  • ...and Pete Doherty and Carl Barat have followed in the footsteps of Johnny and Morrissey, if they can keep their shit together, that is.

  • There's no way you can compare the Libertines or those 2 to the Smiths.

  • Why?

Just because the music is different?

Then you can't compare Lennon and McCartney to the Smiths.

  • No just because they are not even in the same league as the smiths or Lennon and McCartney.

  • In YOUR opinion.

  • i dont think you can compare the beatles or the smiths i mean i prefer the beatles but te smiths are completely diffrent and there style in some ways is better then lennon/ mccartney /morrissey/ mar

  • this is incredible.

  • fucking love the smiths...and the cribs...can't wait for new album!!!

  • Such a legend. Cribs are the best band ever.

  • noelwannabe

    just read your username.

    shut up you cunt.

  • get aids you cunt

  • Its "You're" and "They're". You're a fuckin' idiot.

  • Such a legend. The Smiths were the best band ever.
