  • watched my dad keep a collins just like that running for 40 years until 1999 on 1590 mhz in daytona florida.the machine was affectionantly named maude.he was gonna build a rig just like that for his retirement even had the parts pile and 2 extra machines.he never made it to retirement. nice to see.

  • I notice you were selling you entire station on eBay.

Well, I'd love it, but don't have that kind of money being retired.

However, I am interested in the R390A Receiver. I used those receivers for the 10 years in the Navy. I just have many memories using them, and would love to have one a clean as the one you have. Kind of used to those boat anchors, as they call them these days.

Please let me know if you want to sell it separatly.

  • Nice AM rig there!!

  • Hi Chris,

Really great video.. Like many others I would love to have that WORLD CLASS station but the XYL would probably find a WORLD CLASS BASEBALL BAT to re-ALIGN my skull. HI.

    Thanks for the GREAT Video.

  • I love it. I used to run AM up until 1976 using something similar that you have but it was a home brew single 4-400A class-C plate modulated by a pair of 4-400A's with the RF driver a Collins 310-B1. Best time of my life in ham radio. Back then SPAM was known as the "Society for the Preservation of Amplitude Modulation". Maybe it's still around (?) If I had a place to put that beauty you're running, I would drive down and buy it today. Thanks for posting WA4QGA

  • absolutely amazing set up I love the old collins transmitters and anything orban made in analog wish i could come down and buy that setup but being in maine and low funds there is no way :) but keep the old stuff alive and on the air!!

  • Lovely station Chris, I wish you were here in Australia I'd seriously consider buying your setup...but why oh why are you wanting to sell??

    Cheers

  • @VK3CSJ Hi Clint, I recently purchased two recording studios and I want to set one of them up in that room.

My musical interests take priority as my regular station in another room is quite capable of AM.

My house and warehouse are wall to wall.

I have had the 20V-2 on the air for about 10 years and enjoyed it incredibly but I have shifted interests a bit.

Clint, I can ship it to you if you like, not a big deal, I've shipped larger transmitters to you guys down there,

    Cheers, 73 Chris

  • I used to work at KEWI 1440 Topeka. We used a Collins 21E. 5KW Day 1 KW night. The exciter was the same as the 20V to some extent. Its great you are getting more life out of the old rig. I run AM with an old Viking Ranger and RX Drake 2B. AM was still going strong when I first got my license in 1962,

    Thanks, Cool looking rig.
