That was the best day of my life. Crue started at 10 or 11 in the morning,after quiet riot.
Ozzy and Jake E. Lee were fantastik before Priest. Triumph was amazing.SCORPIONS blackout tour at sunset and orig. Van Halen till 330am the next morning. J loved being 16 and in the middle of that. God bless you STEVE WOZNIAK. THEY KICKED EQUALLY, and i was there to see PRIEST.

If you're going by this clip I would say Motley all the way! Back in the early early 80's Motley was metal, have you listened to Shout At The Devil, Looks That Kill, or Bastard? Thats some heavy stuff for the early 80's back when alot of bands looked all tidey with long sleeved buttoned up shirts and ties. Motley helped bring back "metal" when metal was on its last leg. Now dont get me wrong, Rob has the best voice in metal, but Vince is more of a showman then Rob will ever be!

I've seen both live (JP several times). MC's show is wild, loud and crazy, which is fun. But, JP puts much more into the accurate performance of their music, while still being entertaining. Mick Mars is excellent but how can he compete with the twin guitar attack of Tipton and Downing. The way they seamlessly trade the lead and rhythm guitar parts back and forth is the best! Halford is second to none.
Based on pure talent, it has to go to Judas Priest, Hartford is the god of all things remotely related to metal. But honestly, I find Motley Crue more listenable and fun, and I think the string of kick ass albums they put out on the 1980's are incredible. Also, with Motley Crue, all four members, Vince, Nikki, Tommy, and Mick, make it the Crue. With Priest honestly as long as you have Hartford it will be good. Personally I like Motley more, but still love Priest. Just my opinion.

Both Priest and Crue performed at the US festival in 1983 (May 28th) and both video's are from the same day and using the same FOH gear but different engineers. It's a very fair comparison actually. As for who's best. My vote is for Priest, purely because of the far higher level of technical ability, a far tighter performance and if you listen carefully you can hear how the crowd are far more in to Priest that Crue.
No match, MC has a better rythm section but Halford is a better singer than Neil, and Downing, Tipton are not in the same galaxy than Mars. Judas priest wrote legendary tunes such as Breaking the law, Exciter, Electric eye etc ...

Motley Crue is more of a party band which is cool and high energy and chic Magnets but Judas Priest are the Metal Gods especially with Rob Halford singing. Now for the question at hand. 1st- you show your bias by asking British STEEL vs. American CHEESE... while one is complimentary, the other is condescending. So you clearly are expecting a certain response. I agree with a lot of people here- comparing these two bands is silly... 1 is heavy metal, the other is hard rock. Though some see these as synonymous, they are distinctly different. Kind of like how country and bluegrass aren't the same.
As far as musicianship, all opinions posted are personal preference- once you reach a certain skill level, everything else is just the musician's creative stylings. So, skill-wise, it's fair to say they're equal, they just have different imaginations, leaving it to which of those one prefers. The same can be said with regard to songs. Different lives breed different stories and the ways they are told.
When it comes to appearance... well, that's just dumb. Would JP's music be bad if they looked like, I don't know, early Beatles? How they look is more relevant to showmanship and, have no doubt, both put on a show. Which are both above average. Aside from MC's Carnival of Sins (which was a superior stage show regardless of the act), I would say these two are equal in live performance. JP relies mostly on lights and lasers, while MC relies on pyro.
If there is 1 fundamental difference between these two bands it would be origins. JP started out as a hard blues band, much like Nazareth, Steppenwolf, Deep Purple, and, for the most part, dressed like hippies. MC, most don't know, basically started out closer to punk and dressed, oddly enough, like JP. This favors MC if only because they remained closer to their roots.
The final decision comes down to this- the fans. From what I understand, music fans prefer MC as proofed by total record sales. MC, while having fewer studio albums, have sold more albums. Winner- MC!
Now, as a fan of both bands, for my personal opinion... still MC%) Here's why- as good as they are, and as much as I like them, JP is a one trick pony. They rely heavily on single note rhythms and the double lead guitar solo. At 1st it's awesome, but after awhile it's like "okay already... move on." At least MC mixes it up a little more.
Rob smokes Vince on vocals and as far as comparing Mick Mars to K.K. Downing or Glen Tipton HaHaHaHaHaHa Priest could lose either guitarist and still do better than Motley Crue. And just an FYI, I've seen JP several times back in the 80's and every time Rob drove out the Harley it was the encore not the beginning of the show as I think someone else had stated. Although the times I saw them he rode out and then they played "Hell bent for leather". All in all they both ROCK and put on a super show

I have to say that, while I vote Crue, I mean no disrespect to Priest cuz theyre amazing. Also, the Crue clip that you chose for this vid was not your best choice. I love Crue, but this performance of Live Wire isnt the best. You should have used the Girls Girls Girls from the Carnival of Sins dvd. Still, I vote Motley Crue all the way

@aerosmithmotleycrue - You're missing the point. Both Priest and Crue performed at the US festival in 1983 (May 28th) and both video's are from the same day and using the same FOH gear but different engineers. It's a very fair comparison actually. As for who's best. My vote is for Priest, purely because of the far higher level of technical ability, a far tighter performance and if you listen carefully you can hear how the crowd are far more in to Priest that Crue.

Motley Crue is more of a party band which is cool and high energy and chic Magnets but Judas Priest are the Metal Gods especially with Rob Halford singing. There must have been allot of humidity because Vince Neil's voice was cracking pretty good but that happens when you party to much and don't train your voice. But these were along time ago. Vince has improved a great deal and Halford still is the Metal God!

Nikki sucks as a bass player, but writes awesome songs, Ian Hill isn't creative at all, but nails his bass lines perfectly.
Tommy is better than most of Priest's drummers, but is outdone by Scott Travis.
Vince skills are nothing compared to Robs'
Mick is a great guitar player and has an awesome sound, but I think he is no match for Tipton or Downing.
All in all, I'd say the Crue have better songs, while Priest are better musicians.

Bands can be judged on the quality of their live performances and if you think that the Crue sound better than Priest in this video you must be deaf or just plain ignorant. Now for the question at hand. 1st- you show your bias by asking British STEEL vs. American CHEESE... while one is complimentary, the other is condescending. So you clearly are expecting a certain response. I agree with a lot of people here- comparing these two bands is silly... 1 is heavy metal, the other is hard rock. Though some see these as synonymous, they are distinctly different. Kind of like how country and bluegrass aren't the same.

As far as musicianship, all opinions posted are personal preference- once you reach a certain skill level, everything else is just the musician's creative stylings. So, skill-wise, it's fair to say they're equal, they just have different imaginations, leaving it to which of those one prefers. The same can be said with regard to songs. Different lives breed different stories and the ways they are told.

When it comes to appearance... well, that's just dumb. Would JP's music be bad if they looked like, I don't know, early Beatles? How they look is more relevant to showmanship and, have no doubt, both put on a show. Which are both above average. Aside from MC's Carnival of Sins (which was a superior stage show regardless of the act), I would say these two are equal in live performance. JP relies mostly on lights and lasers, while MC relies on pyro.

If there is 1 fundamental difference between these two bands it would be origins. JP started out as a hard blues band, much like Nazareth, Steppenwolf, Deep Purple, and, for the most part, dressed like hippies. MC, most don't know, basically started out closer to punk and dressed, oddly enough, like JP. This favors MC if only because they remained closer to their roots.

The final decision comes down to this- the fans. From what I understand, music fans prefer MC as proofed by total record sales. MC, while having fewer studio albums, have sold more albums. Winner- MC!

Now, as a fan of both bands, for my personal opinion... still MC%) Here's why- as good as they are, and as much as I like them, JP is a one trick pony. They rely heavily on single note rhythms and the double lead guitar solo. At 1st it's awesome, but after awhile it's like "okay already... move on." At least MC mixes it up a little more.

Rob smokes Vince on vocals and as far as comparing Mick Mars to K.K. Downing or Glen Tipton HaHaHaHaHaHa Priest could lose either guitarist and still do better than Motley Crue. And just an FYI, I've seen JP several times back in the 80's and every time Rob drove out the Harley it was the encore not the beginning of the show as I think someone else had stated. Although the times I saw them he rode out and then they played "Hell bent for leather". All in all they both ROCK and put on a super show
