  • dude have you ever heard of hypocrisy? or PAIN? the lead singer of both peter does a stupidly high scream i was wondering if you knew how he did it, i can do his low growls easy, just wondering, cheers bro

  • Finally someone who understands it!

  • hi ...first of all thanx for posting this videos ....I already can do the throat singing .....but I have a question...I'm doingthe ''compression fry'' now and .....it sounds like something is there but .....should my throat furt?? ..like back of the throat to be correct ...I'm not doing it on my cords ..they don't hurt nor my vocal range decreases when doing this ..and 2. ...sometimes it sounds good but sometimes like... squeezy or airy ........pls answer ...thx ;)

  • soo, we're basically just taking a shit :D

no im messing, this is quite easily the most helpful tutorial i have ever come across, thankyou!

  • If I show you my "lame fry" you'd shit your pants, bitch...

  • @fievelcafe Go ahead and upload a video to your channel and I'll take a look.

  • I'm not sure if I'm doing it correctly, but the other day I felt as though I was gonna cough blood =/

  • OH GOD YOU SOUND LIKE STITCH ON 5:44 - 5:50!!!! lksdfhasdh

  • Is it really bad if your throat is sore from this or do you just get used to it?

  • @razor4581 You could be doing it wrong and actually using your throat, or just have the "body not used to it" feel. If it hurts everytime and you wanna cough alot, probs doing it wrong.

  • can you help me? noone will answer me, ive had my tonsils removed, will this make me where im not able to fry scream? i just cant get it :\ i can false chord really good just cant fry, and i want to :(

  • @BRutAL42Zero I had my tonsils removed when I was about 7; if anything I think removing those from blocking the throat should help your ability to scream. Obviously it hasn't kept me from doing it.

  • @BRutAL42Zero You can fry without tonsils, i can fry-scream and I had them removed for a year ago now. All you have to do is to work on your technique to make that kind of "grunt-sound". Press air throughout your throat so you can feel ur abs flex, don't push urself too hard though, u might get a soar throat in the beginning but practice and listen to songs you like and try to find your growl by scream along. I might not have made this anymore clear, but try! :)

  • omg dude thank you so much for these videos i can scream sing and combined them!!! i can sing and scream song cuz iof dedication and ur videos and lots of practice !!! thanks man make more videos music is kickass. now ima show my band my new singing and screaming voice see if they like it thx again man rock on !

  • @SpreadLoveLikeSex I know how you feel i am the same way

  • What if your scream sounds good, but you get really bad headaches no matter how much you try to use your diaphragm to get your compression out? (I use a LOT of compression)

  • @GuitarGuy22221 Man, I get -exactly- what you're talking about. Sometimes I feel like I'm gonna have a stroke. Honestly, the only way to deal with that that I've found is to practice like every day, and eventually it builds up your resistance and you'll stop getting them.

  • @InvictaMusic But..what if I actually get a stroke? O.o

  • @InvictaMusic Isn't that dangerous?

  • 3:40 so kinda sound like youre throwing up? xD great tutorial bro though! somehow i finally have learned pig squeals out of this video cause i was like doing the whisper talking then pushed and a pig squeal came out xD (btw;i can only do low false cords right now good so ) do a false cord high tutorial please!

  • i don't understand how you combine this with the throat singing

    could you help??

    :)

  • why are you so awesome?!

  • @bob777ist Years of practice.

  • You do push the diaphragm breathing, but you don't push NOT using the lungs. That's the only thing I see as problematic here. Otherwise, thank you.

  • Thanks very much for these tutorial videos, they're really really helpful.

I've got a question for you, there are a couple of guys whose screams I really admire, but I can't work out what technique they're using.

Just wondering if you could help me out.

The miscreants in question are Tetsu from Envy watch?v=plMt9mcmKg8 , and Colin from Amen Ra watch?v=Zm7tC1xWVhE

    Any ideas?

  • Are you sure this isn't just a variation on False Chord Screaming?

  • @Scowmoo Nope. The whole whisper-thing is useless with fc screaming. This is vocal fry overtone screaming with distorted vocals. Melissa Cross does the same thing, but without the grit. That's why she sounds like shit.

  • You literally just taught me how to fry scream, ive been trying for weeks because im sick of false chord and death and i wanted to fry, and you just taught me sir. Thank you.

  • I can hear your chords bleeding....

  • Hey, Man. Good video. I've been doing this for a while, but When I do it it, It's quiet. I've been wondering if it will matter if it is mic'd. When I showed my friend she said it was too quiet. plzz answer, anyone.

  • I know a lot of people hate his screams, but how would you do screams like Frankie Palmeri (from Emmure) His are like, flemmy, but badass.

  • Should you feel a gritty sharpness in the back of your throat? And a slight pain near your abs? Or am I doing it wrong? It's making me cough. A lot. >.>

  • Hey would you say this is the exercise the band(s) sister, early vains of jenna and wednesday 13 use if not could you make a video or something please! :D

  • do you think a girl can do this 2

  • Schii you rule ! :D

I have questions : If after a week my throat still sore from practicing your technique at raspy and fry screaming what is wrong with that? And do we prohibited to drink some icy drinks? or warm drinks? because, something cold make our throat muscles stressed and something warm make it loss the stress that both is bad for our voice at screaming, is that right?

    ANSWER PLEASEE !! :D

  • @demigod211 You can drink what you want, but sugary/dairy drinks will promote mucus in your throat that can make singing difficult. If you're still sore, make sure you're not losing upper range in your normal singing voice. That's a sign of incorrect technique.

  • @InvictaMusic If I sing before I scream I don't lose my upper range, I have been false chord screaming for 3 months now at the begining I lost it all the time

  • Whenever I get that similar distorted sound, my throat starts to hurt. Can we get some more elaboration between the jump from the whispering part to the next bit? I also saw the Magnolia clip, and that's exactly the style of vocals I want to learn.

  • @thetopface wtf?! lol xD

  • What kind of scream does Darkest Hour use? What should I practice to learn how to do that kind of growl?

  • I think I like this better than the inhaled screams, is fry voice the only way to aquire this kind of sound for a girl?

Does someone here know how does the vocaloist of the band The Agonist do it?

  • @nightmarelab the agonist does it with a regular fry scream, i am a male singer who does mainly female metal vocals (incl the high notes lol), the agonist, in this moment, clendestine ect. Just with a fry scream.

The screaming for male and female has NO diffrence what so ever. the only diffrence is that your 'normal' voice is a bit tighter, and therefore a bit higher.

  • @LeapingDodo so the mechanism is the same, I see, wow, you get that high, you must be a versatile tenor!

  • @nightmarelab It's just practice. and since i always sang female songs with my mom since i was little i just learned to sing verry high since i was small, only when i grew up i had some difficulty, men's voice changes and all.

Anyway, the best of luck. Also you might want to keep tabs on my channel, i will be uploading my first video soon (i will play dream theater - forsaken + bass + sing with my keyboard playing buddy who also does the string parts on his keyboard)

  • @LeapingDodo Suscribed already to see your first video upload man!

  • it sounds kinda like ur using ur false chords to make that high scream but mine dosent sound quite like that

  • Thank you for knowing what's up about Melissa cross.

  • @thetopface I thought that was supposed to happen :(

  • i would think this is best to try outside of about an hour of eating at least.

  • @thetopface I didn't throw up but I coughed up every cigarette I ever smoked incuding funny ones.

  • Great job man! I'm singing for many years but i scream for 3or 4. I watched many of videos and try the fry scream. Some people can do it but I have problems with that. I watched zen of ... and practiced her tips but with no big effects... Im wondering what sort's of scream use Peter Tagtgren from Hypocrisy? For me the best screams are on the Nightmares made flesh, Bloodbath. On my channel you can hear my band. Your tips are very good I recommended them to every one!

  • Amazing tutorial and I think I got it all set sept for my throat. I keep -whatever I do- hurting my throat. I get how you close your throat AND I can do the squeezed character you did which sounded like pinky from pinky and the brain.

How do I make my throat not hurt :/.

  • It's like popping lol

  • genious, thanks for the help!

  • any idea how dani filth does those tonal screeches? i've been trying to figure it out for some time now but i can't quite get it.

  • Postal guy, is that you?

  • HELP ANYONE! so i can scream and sing fine switching isn't a problem, but it seems like every time i switch... my chord closure is over done and i cant hit the high notes or they are really raspy and reallly sharp, nothing hurts, nothing is strained, i sort of know what im doing wrong but what do i need to do to fix it? Schii if you resopnd to this that would be REALLY appreciated because i practice my cleans using Brett Manning's method^^.

  • Michael Barnes from RED also studies with Brett Manning. Is this the technique he uses? If not, then will this technique still allow my screams to sound like his?

  • @LeeJayBird21 I don't think he uses the same technique. From what I understood, Barnes was adding his grit on the vocal cords. I'd rather trust Schii's explanation in his video with Jessi Nemitz by using false chords. Since you won't be damaging your vocal cords, you'd be able to add even more distortion safely than with Barnes' technique.

  • I don't get it, my throat is airy and doesn't sound natural like yours, it sounds too high and when i try lowering it my throat hurts, idk if this is right?

  • "if you can make this noise you're one step closer to screaming" haha

ps; good video, I think the only thing I would add is that the compression isn't about forcing out all of your air. That will just make your vocal chords vibrate/slap together. So it's about pushing the right amount.

  • I also scream and stuff, and your explanation is just one of the best things I ever founded.

I mean I was able to scream and do pig squeals before but you´re really the only one who describes it the right way.

Just found out how to do gutturals, that´s kinda fun :D

  • hello again. Will you be doing the video on putting this and the throat singing together soon?

  • I'm trying to get the raspyness in to my screams, but it sounds really dry. What am I doing wrong? What you say in throat singign. Is throat singing similar what melissa cross teaches as "death"? Are you getting the rapsiness in a similar way?

  • They say whispering loudly damages your vocal chords. I'm afraid of doing so. Is there another way to figure this out?

  • Meatwad FTW!

  • Why can't I get my screams this raspy? I wanna do screams like bullet for my valentine or like dead by april

  • @ChaserHUN If you practice a coughing noise, or a harsh version of the 'loogie' sound, that's approximately where the rasp comes from, air being compressed against the back of your throat. It will hurt the first few times, but your singing voice shouldn't be affected.

  • @InvictaMusic

I can make that sound I think, but I still don't get it how can I do those metalcore type of screams like bullet for my valentine, I like their screams a lot, they said they use fry screaming, but I can't get that powerful with the melissa cross type of fry

  • thank you so much, ill be practicing more
