LOL. LiEnucks is such a piece of garbage bug ridden shit. It stinks, it sucks, it is obsolete, it is obscure, etc, etc, you name it. No hardware or software support from commercial vendors, it got nothing, that piece of shit.

another video with no audio. hmm.. did i rilly expect there to be audio? naw. that would just b... stUpid of me, wouldn't it. Hey; the first person to tell me how the hel to install beryl gets a brand new CPU. From ME ! ! ! ! -but u haf2 tell me how to install GNOME 'AND' BERYL on my UBUNTU. okaee!? Just DO IT now b4 i kill over or drop dead from boring ass videos.
What's the reasonable hardware requirement for these, and if addition with WinXP install within it? Minimal a Dual Core processor like AMD X2 4000 or Intel 6400 with 2 meg ram?
It's an Operating System, like windows. This is Ubuntu, FREE!!! WOOT WOOT haha. and it's COOL EYE CANDY SO CHILL, it's FUN to have, and u don't need a top of the line computer to do this. and IT'S FREE so stop bitching about how unless it is or watever
It's smegging pretty. (although I don't use Beryl yet; I screwed up my video drivers and rather everything by starting with the wrong paradigm, so I'll just wait until Gutsy Gibbon comes out)
I'm a little leery about fancy shiny UI effects, mainly because they can be distracting and hard on resources, but as long as it's just as functional as Gnome's regular ol' themes, I'll switch.
the effects are cool but most people doesn't want computer because they need them just because of the effetc like vista i bought windows vista ultimate just because of a program called dreamscene and it is very nice having a hd video background....
Yeah, the effects are sorta less important than functionality. But it looks like Linux has that too. Now I'm going to stop playing around and install the dang thing.
I have got rid of WIndows, and decided to try ubuntu. So far... it is great!!
Once installed, everythign was fine. the screen, usb device, etc, were great. I had to manually get codecs for playing certain dvd and video files. With a bit of research, linux isnt that hard to a genuine windows user
I just tried gentoo... it crashed in the 38th hour of installing, I can't be arsed to try again. Being hard to install is a step backwards for linux.
I'll stick with BSD, what gentoo aspires to be. I was only trying gentoo because I was considering switching to *BSD/Gentoo when it becomes useful for a production system.
Gentoo's no more real a distro than ubuntu. if you want to be hardcore; use slackware linux, BSD, or unix.
you have to know how to do it. If you just plain install the normal way, it will overwrite windows. Google "dual boot". Ubuntu isn't a very good one to dual boot, it changes some system settings on boot up that windows change back when it boots up. having your clock 6h ahead on one and 6h behind in the other is not uncommon. Fedora 7 comes out in 4 days, that would be better for a dual boot, but its wireless networking abilities/stability are poor.
6.06 is the "long term support" version. 6.10 and 7.04 are newer, but 6.06 is recommended for use by those other than ubuntu developers. (the version number is year.month of release)
My god, I couldn't even use a USB device on Red Hat Fedorra or any of the other distros of linux. Can't wait to try out Ubuntu. Perhaps, just maybe, It'll have the drivers for a USB Flash drive.
Erm can some one help me im new to Ubuntu and Linux i spent about an hour figuring out how to isntall flash, and i think some of it was pure luck that i got it working. I really want to get Beryl i have been on the website to download it but cant for the life of me figure out what i need to download or what page to get it from hel would really be appreciated, thanx alot in advance!
google easyubuntu its fantastic and will install all web based things like flash and MORe! and for the beryl google again just install beryl how to or giude
that is just annoying stuff, maybe you can use like 2 or 3 effects from there, but a lot of that stuff is just annoying to me, it may look good in the video but for everyday use i think ill get so tired of that shit.
It's efficient as well. You don't need 2 GIG DDR RAM, a new video card with 512 video ram, a new processor and loads of cash stolen from the government treasury to buy new hardware to run Vista with Aero if you ever had a chance to taste GNU/Linux and Beryl. You want efficiency? Go fucking buy Vista, get a little bit poorer than you already are, make MS more richer for nothing.
I think the point they were making was that you get aesthetics at the cost of performance and for most users who aren't just hobbyists, that's not often a good trade-off.
If you really want high performance GUI, just use X windows system, it works on like 2MB of ram. (limits the programs you can use though) X-D
The video is a demonstration of all the effects beryl can accomplish. No one actually recommends running beryl with every effect on. It's very customizable. I only run a few of those effects.
MS aint got the resource to do that! LOL if they did, Aero wouldn't have required gigs and gigs of expensive RAM, newer video cards and dual core processors to run itself. You need to have creativity in you to come up with something as eye-dazzling as beryl. Investing loads of money into hiring 'good for nothing' programmers and making them code closed-source junkware wouldn't just work!
they are pretty much running on an openGL 3D engine that works on any video and graphics card. XGL & Beryl come with most Linux softwares. all those effects you see there are running on his graphics card. not like windows vista where you have to buy a new video, grapics, and sound card to run it
