Im on Virgin Media, do NOT get it, their service is terrible. I get my internet from Croydon which is what, 10-20mins away? The broadband is shit, and has been for the past 4 months. They lie a lot, we where meant to have double internet by Jan 18th, than Feb, now April and it may even be June...

Its been bad since December, seriously its crap. We pay for 30MB broadband, we get 16MB at the best of times sitting next to the router. At the other side of the house, its below 1 like this so ppl see

Existing customers recieve a letter were doubling your broadband for free but it might take 18 months if you ever get it

next week you recieve second letter, prices up services down - ripped off once again

What they fail to mention. You may not get upgraded for 18 months. in the mean time there is a substantial increase in price due april for a reduced service.

For this Advert all costumers of Virgin Media from the 1st of April will have to pay an increase to our contracts because Sir Richard Branson decide to make a new show off. I wonder if Usain Bolt knew that will be used for extract money from existing costumer to force them to pay for so called "free double speed". Thank you virgin media for stealing from existing costumers. The name of the new charges will be "bundle charges".

This advert misses the point entirely.

I doubt the large percentage of internet users need (or indeed use) a 30MB connection.

Games for instance will run on a very small amount of bandwidth, but if you loose packets then the game is unplayable.

Same for VOIP or most things come to that....quality needs to be put before quantity or you sit and wait for something to load.

Another waste of money Virginmedia....go read your own forums and take note.

We don't need faster connections...we need something reliable that does what it's supposed to and allows us to game and view web without massive pauses.

If my connection goes up to 100MB how is it really going to help me?

Being a network engineer means you know about networking maybe...but judging by your ill informed answer I really don't think you have a clue!

@Split10 Virgin is pretty good at avoiding packet loss because the majority of their network is based on a 'Switched design' and managed by 'DHCP' servers, this reduces collisions down to a single domains or ranges of IP addresses or subnets i.e. Edinburgh North, South, East, West! Plus the 'coaxial thick net cable' that connects to your router can take speeds up to 500MB and is quite stable. They have fault tested this in London so its going to work! Its not that big a deal

Go read the VM forums and all you will see is complaints about packet loss that make gaming and watching videos here impossible.
