No, he couldn't save him. Don't you remember that scene when the old man dies? In my opinion it was a matter of fate and there was nothing to do about such a predestinated thing :-/ Phill could change his own life but not the lives of others...

Phil is also deeply affected by the man's death, almost blaming himself. I think the nurse even stresses, "Sometimes, people just die." In my opinion, it's an early sign of Phil starting to come around and care about other people (the first step out of his Time Loop of selfishness).

It delivers a message without preaching it. some times you cannot change things - no matter how many chances you are given...which is why it essential to do the most with ur life - like phil does (learning the piano.....reading....etc). lovely film. not just a comedy,

Well, it after he stole the money from the armored car, right? I think that a lot of time has passed, and he's starting to get bored (REALLY bored). This scene indicates some of the wacky things he's doing with that stolen money (who knows how many times he's done it) because he's trying to break the monotony of living the same day over and over again.

That's my take on it, anyway.
