Thats a very rugged shotgun expressly made for hard, extended use. The barrels on the Mil-Spec A1s are thick walled and heavy chromed in the bore to take countless heavy magnum loads in combat conditions. Also gotta give Mossberg extra credit for the metal trigger guard and safety button. Just a good, reliable, military pump shotgun that's proven itself time after time in combat and law enforcement situations.
just to correct a few of your idiocracies, the 500 and 590's do have dual extractors, also the 590 was designed for the M9 bayonet so get one - I know they are expensive but come on.. another point is that no, shooting a shotgun with a bayonet will not damage the bayonet the spread at nine inches is about 1.05 the bore of the gun. also the military having problems with the trigger is bullshit, so don't mention that again. and the remmy was in the race for contract and guess what, they lost.
Also, The fit and finish of my 870 is wayyy better then that of my 590a1, and its action
is much smoother also. Id also rather have my Remmys elevator plate just for the fact that it would help keep crud ouuta the receiver, its no big deal. In fact the only thing I like more on my Mossy is the safety, but I wont put a pistol grip on it because then the position would suck.
Bottom line, Remington makes a better 12g shotgun.
I have both the 590a1 and Remmy 870 tactical express as well as a saiga 12.
If shtf Id go with my 870.
The mossberg has an aluminum receiver, not a steel receiver like the 870 and its beefier inside as well. I know why remington didnt trial it,LOWEST BIDDER. but I can promise you if they were offered at the same price they would have went with the 870. Also military has been having problems with the triggersbreaking I like my mossy alot but I love my Remmy;)

Awesome gun; I'm looking to outfit mine the same way.
Did you have to modify the bayonet to make it work? I've heard the OKC3S is a little too long for the 590, as in the ring sits off of the end of the mag.
@hazeywolf I bought an OKC3S and had the same problem; fixed it roughly the same way. Just arc-welded a small slice of pipe to the hole. Looking back, JB weld would have been a hundred times easier, hahaha.
I own a 590A1 with an M9 bayonet as well...super sweet. Sabot slugs are made for rifled barrels. The 590 is a smooth-bore. Try Federal Trueball slugs, they kill 5 out of 5 pie plates at 100+ yards with ghost ring sights. Specially designed for smooth-bore guns. Make sure to get the non low recoil 1 oz 1600 fps heavy hitters!
Bonita! How much does this model go for?

I have an Elzetta light mount that mounts the light on the side, so maybe you can use it to have both the light and the bayonet at the same time.

couldn't having a bayonet on a shotgun damage the blade because of a stray pellets hitting the blade?
sorry ahead of time because i have a very limited knowlege of shotguns
PitaD123 1 year ago
@PitaD123
your spread wont be that wide on modern shotguns (to hit the bayonet).
