I think you guys are assuming we know more than we do. You told us to set those dials but you didn't say what they are for. Also, where are you supposed to place the ground? How close or far is it supposed to be from the work area? Is the ground supposed to be directly on the piece you are working on or can it be somewhere else on the car that touches that piece? If you are working on a car do you run the rist of blowing up the gas tank if it is metal? Please explain.
What would you suggest as the best/cheapest mig welder to buy for someone with 0 welding experience? Also do you NEED to use an inert gas? What happens if you don't use any?
Not a bad video but I would suggest 30-40 cfm on the gas pressure and perhaps a little more detail on machine settings as opposed to "well the weld didn't break so its a good weld" bit. :-D
I thought it was great, fairly cheesy but I found it entertaining and informative and I'm guessing that's the purpose of this video, awesome work. Subscribed :)
great ideal here, welding has changed since grandfathers time and now it is attainable by just about anyone with the ability to learn. If you want to do a video series or specialized welding from the most basic to High frequency Aluminum, give me a call. I have taught people to weld for the past 20 years, and have many individuals working in the trade. Excellent public speaker, and with a flexable schedule.
@DonzoacPvP It's not hard you just need to practice to get it right to make a flat nice weld weave back and forth in a arc, and practice before doing a real job.
@dippidop Thanks for the feedback. It is definitely meant to be an overview of how to weld, letting the average Joe know what is involved from the equipment and safety standpoint, then giving them a quick intro to actual welding. We hope to have more in-depth episodes in the future showing different techniques.
The content of it is excellent, but saying each others name alot, pretending not to know anything when you clearly do and asking questions when you know the answer is just annoying.
Its much better if you explain it, rather than play the "i know nothing, please tell me" person.
Instead of Person A saying "whats this and how do i do it?" then person B saying "well person A, this is so and so......." Just introduce it to the viewer and explain it.
@motorztv in shows and movies, it looks simple... blow torch and mask. I am trying to learn how to weld like a pro, and i never understood how much of an art it really is. If you weld a lot, you will probably understand what all of this means, ... but not for a newbie
if your heating thru your metal try turning yur speed up leave the voltage where it is , if it's a cold weld turn the speed down a bit, the speed is easier to play with than the voltage.
apparently i'm unsafe, i weld and cut steel barefoot in shorts and a tshirt, ive never worn gloves in my life. i only get burned cause i always forget that whatever i was welding was molten metal only a few seconds ago...long as you know what you're doing you wont have molten metal flying everywhere.
Of all of the videos I've wanted to watch on yertube, I wanted to watch a welding video. I appreciate essplainin some of the settings and tekneeqs. Will check out more of your videos. Thanks.
I go to school for welding and I di some welding for some people that don't need a certification for that job and we got a saying at my school and that saying is we work behind the mask
You guys need to move the gun closer to the metal you are welding, you shouldn't hear that popping it should be a constand zzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzz sound
as i see at 7:00, there seems to be almost no penetration. should have put amps up a little more. but if thats the look you were going for, than u did it. but nce bead anyway.
depends on how much you want to learn you can be a trigger pull and just MIG weld easy or you can tig pipe witch is what im doing now i start tech school last year when i was 17 and still in high school. Im a senior now and been welding 4-6 hours 5 days a week for a year now and all ive covered is stick all positions and mig im just starting tig now purdy much if you got experience you can make 35-40 bucks an hours + per diem (food&living pay) if you wana make the money you gotta work for it
@umass22 exactly, I was thinking if I will enroll myself to a class in our town who usually teach how to weld, now thanks to this video I should spend the money on the equipment first.. so good marketing I will buy now a Hobart! nice nice I love youtube
some mig welders like this one have a chart on the lid were you open it to get to the spool and Miller makes one the automatically sets the heat and speed
This is one of the best MOTORZ I've seen, really makes it easy to see what welding is all about, and should hopefully inspire people to give it a try, instead of being scared of it... Imagine all of the projects where welding would have come in handy!
You mentioned in part two about how you were having a hard time seeing where to weld your butt weld. My father is a profesional welder and he taught me to use a piece of chalk or a talc stick to trace your weld line and when you strike your arc it will illuminate on the chalk line and you can then see exactly where your going. The small amount of chalk isnt enough to effect the integrity of the weld either. Thanks for the great first time tips as well.
Why did you disable comments on pt. 2? Great show I was glad you took it slow and showed how to begin. Don't forget about oxy asseteline (how ever you spell it) welding as the cheapest way to start welding.
Thanks for watching, and for your feedback! I disabled comments on part 2 so that all of them can be consolidated on one page... easier for me to manage, and that way everyone can read all the comments in case a question has already been answered.
Good call, so what are the future plans since you now have a welder? A tube chassis hotrod would be cool like the one in the lates issue of Hot Rod! or some sheet metal work first?
Good suggestion! We will probably start with something practical, working with sheet metal -- such as a hood or body panel perhaps. Your feedback is greatly appreciated and will help us determine where to go next with the welder. We also have a plasma cutter which we'll work with on the show one future episode!
Good stuff! You should follow this up with techniques on how to upright and overhead weld (since rarely do you actually come across a situation where you can weld on a flat surface lol). Also, you should do a vid on how to restore and paint fiberglass. I'm restoring a 1967 Hydroswift speed boat. As an Automotive tech, i have the mechanical/structural part down easy. But the hull needs some TLC. And i'm clueless when it comes to fiberglass resto.

@vivalaresistanc The metal has to be clean of everything before you can weld it. That especially includes rust.
