I have always been a fan of EV so when the elx118p was available at my local sam ash i went out and got it. Set up was easy. the first thing that i noticed was that it sounded good but not right for me. I'm a dj in a club and i want some deep bass and this did not do it for me. also in the first hour of using the sub the red limit light came on and shortly after the sub shut its self off. The next day i returned it and picked up a used JBLprx618. thing THUMPS and never shuts off.
Right now i am looking to buy subs i have around $1000 to spend my initial thought was to buy a PV 118 and a qsc amp that is more than enough power and run the sub on a single channel then later when i have more cash buy a second sub on the same amp on the other channel, because the powered subs are more expensive. WHAT Should i do??
How does the EV compare to the other two for output and punch? I am looking at getting two subs for a 5 piece band, would the EV do a good job, I am looking at prx635 for tops over the EV LX118p.
@scottl926 i'm not trying to say you should get the qsc kw153's instead, but i kinda am. There have been too many prx635 blowouts to count on the forums. That fact is supported by the passive cooling (qsc has active fan driven) which actually gets to the point of 2nd degree burns if you're not careful. Besides... qsc gives a 6 year warranty and i'll tell you what... to me, the qsc's sounded much less colored than the kw153's when i demo'd them.
back to your question. the ev will hold up with the qsc, but the xlf will dominate the low end output regions. if you are thinking about the ev vs qsc.... not even a hard choice as the ev is almost 1000 dollars cheaper! (no active cooling though makes me nervous..... although no one has complained on the forums yet??) The xlf (prx618)'s have been going into thermal shutdown after a few hours if there isn't a FAN aimed at it???? that's a fukin STUPID design if you ask me hah
@MSDJALC They are a good sub for the price point they come in at. There's better and there's worse. For the money, it's not bad, but for a little more, I would get the PRX618S or the EV ELX118P. Thanks for the question!
cool thanks for the Video on the 3 subs. just picked up the EV ELX112P from u guys... I like them for the Price... Im also looking on getting the sub too in the near future...

How would you hook up just one elx118p since it only has one input and output?
