The length of time it took them to get to the actual song . . . 1:55. The sheer number of people holding up their right hands despite having been told NOT to . . . countless. :)
Know what else would be awesome? If Country Dick Montana was still alive and did a track or two with these guys. What a killer combination that would be.
ALABAMA 3 ACOUSTIC AND UNPLUGGED ON TOUR THIS MARCH!
Visit the Alabama 3 website for more details
"With this line up they bring a whole new dimension to the songs made famous by Alabama 3. This isn’t acid house music, this is country/gospel/delta blues, but played with a rhythm you’ve still got to dance to."
This I just my impression, but it seem more of a cynical song pointing out the hypocrisy of the Peaceful communist beliefs, honestly a system that starved 7.5 million Ukrainians just because they believed In individual rights.
@VanDoodah Man, I see your point and I was slightly pissed (Aussie for 'drunk'), so my judgement was slightly impaired and I now recognise you were stating a fact and not making a judgement, I didn't know they were red flaggers. All I know is they make some pretty fine music and the uniqueness of a band is what gets me in, not the normal mainstream crapola aimed at the market of 14 year olds... These guys are cool without trying to be cool.
Loved this band for a few years now, seen them live 3 times, the best band i have ever saw live. Go see them if you are watching this, it will be excellent you will not regret it.
I'd have love to have been there...young with a mind full of something instead of disinterested carnal hormomes running riot. Hey-ho. Love all you Tubesters. Have the best Christmas ever xxxxxx
All I can say is I CANNOT WAIT til they come back to the US. Gonna go to Dublin... not Goa. Saw them in Cleveland... sweet pretty mutherfuckin country acid house rock...
Cracking open an O.P.T., kicking back and just loving them good 'ole A3 boys! Converted back in 1996 and have been preaching the word ever since .... oh, and I definitely ain't goin' to Goa neither ;-)
saw them at wickerman 2005 and 2008. now im a dedicated metalhead but alabama 3 have got to be one of THE greatest bands on the planet. i was brought up listnin to exile... and its one of my fav albums
In many ways it is a great song. What worries me, though, is the way that - especially in this video - the band seem to think that Chairman Mao was a good thing. And, surely, he was very, very far from that.
Of course in this postmodern age the use of Chairman Mao is used in an ironic sense, not as a incitement to arms, right? It's all entertainment. We incite and then dissemble. We mean it but then a moment later we're only in it for the money.
Ah: so the band is schizoid (worst interpretation) or just being silly or something like that (best interpretation). Given the subject matter, I am unhappy even with the latter. I do love the music though (and part of the reason I like THIS song, worryingly, is that it is rousing).
Do not get distracted by the title. Remember a title is but a label, a meme designed to make something stick. There is at least as much of Jim Jones in this as there is Mao. There's also reference to Elvis (another gun nut), Salvador Allende (who died by the gun rather than lived by it) and Daniel Ortega among many others. To me it's rather about mind control and the appeal of controversy than that it conveys any real 'red' ideas.
Yes it is all Jim Jones on the tape, quoting Mao and coaching the young female voice that we hear that killing is the only way to bring on change. Jim Jones was a fervent communist as well as a paranoid cult leader who led over 900 Americans to commit revolutionary suicide in 1978 in Guyana. This song is certainly controversial because it pairs Jones's revolutionary musings with a killer beat that builds and builds until it explodes. I love it.
this band are the best ever they out strip anything else ive followed them for ages and this is the greatest song ive heard for years 5 stars all the way on all there stuff go boys rock the house blow them away
I think we might have played kansas on our first American tour in 1998, afraid most of it's a bit of a blur. Hopefully see you soon Victor, I'll keep you posted about US dates.
Wow! Brings back memories, actually, aftershow memories I thought were long gone. Not bad for a, daft as a tap, country, techno, gospel, acidhouse, blues band. By the way, we're not all from Glasgow and Wales.
not sure what im commenting on but i saw the band a couple of times in ireland, i have never experienced anything like it,its an event don't feel like a concert etc absolutley marvellous
They were amazing in sligo! Friends saw them in dublin a couple of weeks earlier, said it was good but not much of the old stuff, but the dj set at eamonn dorans was incredible.
I wondered what happened to Puck from M.T.Vs Real World season one.Seriously though i like this band alot.

Communism is the future, motherfuckers!
Mao sucks, though; Trotsky is the way to go!
Congest 2 years ago 2
Brother,
if you start like this, you are through before an opening.
Mao won many fights against many monsters and demons.
They had to wait his death to prevail.
Trotsky wrote many intelligent things. Too intelligent ones: as Lenin commented in his wills.
Th. was a main character of a great revolution as a young man.
Afterward, not so much of practical.
griparbelli 2 years ago
Lol!
trotsky what did he ever do apart from divide the left wing forces? And spout shit about the USSR.
