thank you! I'll post when I hear the results. The shoulder is a calcification - basically an allergic reaction to trauma; according to the vet, 1 horse in 1,000 will react by forming calcium. the vet says it could be reabsorbed in about a year. he's had it before in other places. weird, huh?
