  • proof of how perfect Beethoven's work really is through fire.

  • Essentially, it's an equalizer made of FIRE.

    Well played, sir.

  • My media player doesnt have such visual effect :(

  • this is perfect

  • I want this at my 18th...

  • me gusta tu experimento uen video

  • отличный эквалайзер...

  • Hi! How do you delivar the gas into a tube? Do you deliver a pure Propan-Butan or is it mixtured with air?

  • Pyromaniac + Musician = THIS

  • that is fucking sweet!!

  • btw, how do i measure the wavelength? as some sites stated it's from a crest to the next crest while some other stated that it's from a crest to the 2nd crest. hope someone can help me on this. thanks!

  • may i kno if a ruben's tube a close or open tube?

  • NEEDS FUCKING SLAYER!!!

  • this is how a pyro listens to music

  • Okay, now it's time for some screamo. >:)

  • @MajorDeduction actully screamo doesnt go very well on the rubens tube... it just has the flames go higher no waves or diffrences it sucks thats why on beethovens fur eliese it worked so beutifuly because its a simple song with the sounds nessicary to produce the effect that it did.

  • what kind of tube did you use to hook up the gas?

  • What gas did you use?

  • this is fucking perfect made

  • It'd be cool to have this connected to your instrument.

  • play ronald jenkees through it

  • Wait a minute...... is that Journey........... I think that's Journey!

  • I wonder how it would look like with Metal :O

    Something like...hm...enter sandman? :P

  • how do you stop the speaker from affecting the flame too much, i just chucked one together and the flames nearest the speaker keep going out

  • that's the most well-made Ruben's Rube I've ever seen ! good job man

  • awesome!

  • Please also watch my video's of my Ruben's Tube, it's not as large as this one but I also made it work with music (songs: beat it, drop it like it's hot, bonkers, bongo bong...)

Great job on this one! :D

  • i can figure out how they made it work so well!? What did you use a diaphragm? I used a streatched surgical glove.

  • the first propane grill to utilize this scientific discovery im buying hahahahaha cant u imagine an ipod dock grill that entertains you while you cook?

  • Dude, this is better than a fireplace. xD

  • You sir, kick ass. Great gob.

  • A Rubens Tube is just an amazing example of the symetry that nature tends to work on. Its beautiful and amazing how symetrical and perfectly everything in nature matches up to everything else.

  • @ElChrisman99 I think only physicists can afford to look at things that way :)

  • Thank you everyone for your interest and comments!

The tube was brass, 2" OD, 49" long (random and expensive, but was free to me and in good shape). with 1/16" holes drilled 1/2" O.C. starting 6" from either end. Speaker was sealed to a PVC fitting directly attached to the tube.

  • I nEED HELP!!!!

I just built a 3 1/2 foot rubens tube using a stretched latex glove as my diaphragm with 2" aluminum irrigation pipe and a 2" speaker at high volume.

When playing any music, It's not anywhere near this responsive as far as displaying the actual wave, but does pulse to the beat. and it only REALLY pulses on the speaker end, not uniformillay throughout the tube.

How Can I Fix This!!!!???? Im thinking remove the diaphragm and have the speaker selaved directly to the tube.

  • How long is that tube?

  • see my recent comment for some details

  • oh okay thanks. hey could you please tell me what the OD and O.C. stand for?

  • O.D. = Outer Diameter

O.C. = On Center (measurement from the center of one hole to the next)

  • Excellent! Yes, best one I've seen thus far! I think he doesn't want to share the design info b/c he went through the rigorous task of "experimenting"... Does anyone have a good link to a design which works well?

  • WoW this is the best ive seen, Ive made one but i didnt get nearly as good definition. what s the vital statistics of your tube?????

    tube material/ wall thickness/ length?

    hole diameter and spacing?

    thickness of diafram?

what did you use at the opposite end to the speaker?

    .....

    cheers

  • Hi there. Not sure of the wall thickness (and the school still has this, so I can't check), but posted some details above. End opposite the speaker was just a metal barb adapter (for the gas hose) and hex busing screwed into a PVC bushing fitted to the main tube.

  • Hi, i've managed to refine it alot but am still getting quite a messy flame when music is played through it. Whenever basy notes are played the flames nearest the speaker get blown out, I've tried playing the journey song through mine and it doesnt react the same way as yours.

I was wondering if you somehow took certain frequencies out of the song or played a somehow edited version? Also what speaker did you use?

cheers for the last reply btw. P

  • this is so cool! I wanna try it!

Some questions though. I know the one side with the propane is sealed, but do you seal the other side by like wrapping duct tape around the speaker to the tube? or can you just seal it tight and then place the speaker next to it?

  • I sustained a bad burn to my leg, not doing this but something else. I am not stopping you doing it, just reminding anybody who forgot that fire, sort of burns.

  • this is sick, how do you make it?

  • you take a long pvc pipe and poke a long row of holes going down it in a straight line connect one side to a smal speaker and connect the other side to another pipe which is connected to some sort of propane source....then light the top and turn on the stereo.....its ridiculously simple when you think of it

  • yeah, until the pvc melt by the heat, and toxic gasses escape! :)

  • While not not necessarily spectacular, Fur Elise yields the most interesting results of all the songs I've seen put through a tube.

These demonstrations overall are of the highest qualities I've found so far.

  • i agree with saxmachinejoe, this is by far the best looking rubens tube ive found, and i would really appreciate if i could get some specs on it.

  • супер!!!

  • so this is like that green wave you see on radios?

  • my friend made one of these and we played boom boom pow and stronger.

    it was pretty cool

    do more songs!

  • My only complaint is that the audio is slightly muffled in parts, but this is due only to the way that the apparatus is required to be set up in order for it to work. Better by far than the mythbusters demonstration. (It's still my favorite non-fiction show, though.)

  • This is awesome! And yes I agree this is the best one on youtube

  • This is the best one i've seen on youtube as far as accurate frequency representation. Can I get the specs for it? My friend and I want to build one and this is far superior to all the other ones I've seen.

  • Very cool. Great music choice.
