  • Never seen this video--great to see these all stars still tearing it up at their ages. Buddy DeFranco is such a superb clarinetist. It is ridiculous to play rating games with musicians at this level of mastery.

  • Anyone knows what´s the barrel that he´s using?

  • It's a marvelous jam session.

DeFranco as always he is, great !

  • everyone is a monster ~~ they are really smoking~

  • Wow! As close to Benny Goodman as you can get!

  • @MoebiusTripper Different than Benny. they have different styles and are both virtuosos.

  • I am aware of that...I was referring to both of their mastery of their instruments.

  • @MoebiusTripper NO, not close to Benny. Different language altogether.

  • @jazzgent I am aware of that. I was referring to to their virtuosity...However, Buster Bailey, who was taught by the same teacher who taught Benny Goodman, was technically better than DeFranco and Goodman, and Goodman even admitted that.

Just listen to Bailey play: "Man with a horn goes berserk," on his CD called: "Buster Bailey Story," released by Jazz Archives #118

  • @MoebiusTripper Thank you for your comments. However Buster was NOT technically better than Benny. If Benny said so he was just being nice. If you think so, tell me the recording that demonstrates Buster's virtuosity. Listen to the recordings of Benny in the 40's and 50's and there is no technique better than that. Notes choices, maybe. Of course Eddie Daniels has surpassed them all!!

  • @jazzgent I just told you in my last comment to you which CD recording and piece of Buster Bailey proves his superiority over both Goodman and DeFranco, and even Daniels....Buster was determined to put the record straight in the 1940's, so he recorded the piece, "MAN WITH A HORN GOES BERSERK." Just listen for yourself and you cannot fail to draw the obvious conclusion!

  • @MoebiusTripper I will give that a listen but I fear you are such a fan of Buster's that you are not being logical. I'm hoping that it's not a racial thing. That is just a thought, not an acusation. For you to say that Buster is better tech. than Benny is one thing but then to say the same about Eddie I'm afraid is just not logical and your being an extreme fan is clouding judgement. Nothing else makes sense but I will give that recording a listen.

  • @jazzgent First of all, I am a non-professional jazz clarinetist and white...I have listened to Eddy Daniels play and he no Benny Goodman....Benny was able to turn a song into a swing piece of music better than anyone....I prefer Benny Goodman to Buster Bailey as far as their music is concerned.....And Benny did not need the technique that Buster had in order to play the music that Benny played....

  • @MoebiusTripper Yes, Benny could do more with less and he could swing better than all of them. Eddie plays different and more modern and he is a master. I love him. I also love Buster.

  • @jazzgent I can agree to that, but I still prefer the "Swing Era" and "Stride" piano....I also play the piano, so you can see why I am so in love with this kind of music...Have you seen the great TV tribute to Benny Goodman that Eddie Daniels performed about 5 years ago? If not I could send you a DVD copy of it.....

  • @MoebiusTripper Is that Benny Tribute on Youtube? If so, I have seen it but if not I would love a copy. You say it was 5 years ago. I have not seen then. I would love a copy.

  • I'm a jazz clarinet player and this guy is the best!

  • sensational !! how many clarinet players can play in all keys as amazingly?

  • Buddy, as usual, is terrific!
