These things are awesome. HPI is a freaking rip off at 1200 bucks. Just like a harley, you pay for the name. BTW Hpi's CY engine is a knock off of the original Zenorah. It's not like hpi's baja is anything new. Besides bay $600 or less for a King motors and buy RPM A-arms and some turtle racing parts. You're still under what a stock hpi costs and you have better parts.
Most people who hate on these are just butt hurt they paid $1200 bucks for something with better plastic a-arms.
@mattsrm85 like sunglasses guys. with oaklys your buy plastic lenses coated with a see through black film. at walmart you buy the same thing for 10 bucks.. but with oaklys you pay 400 to 1k. y? name. name means everything. hpi is world known for there rcs king motors... not so much so they sell cheaper. but its the same thing if not better depending on where you buy. ebay there is a guy who sells kms upgraded for way cheap and is very nice :)
I have a HPI trophy and Clone Baja....parts break on both, build quality is the same but I would never consider paying double for just a brand name......my baja cost me under £500 with all the hop ups I need.
Nice Baja! I honestly don't consider these clones at all. HPI gets all thier stuff from the place this model comes from China. So as matter of fact I would say HPI has a clone of what China had already has had before HPI put it out here in the U.S. You can pretty much purchase anything in china and have your company logo,name and etc. branded on any item. I think weather you got a KM version or HPI it's all the same. Except on thing the PRICE....
I recommend ether one. Im just saying both are made in the same place. So ether you want to pay $900-$1100 for HPI or $400-$650 for KM. I will send you some links later.
?? You think HPI makes a better model is that what your saying? This KM, HPI, AMAX all the models come from the same manufacuture so all the same parts are made in one place. Im looking to have some cars imported so I got samples of parts and put them up next to eachother and they are identical, as for the motor im not to sure. All that matters you have fun with it all apart of the hobbie. I like your set up it's awesome.
KM uses molds they copied from HPI and thats why they look the same..
but look closer and you will see moldings of the first gen HPI 5B, not the current model.. Not what I think but what is fact. I own a KM and like it but the parts are different and they don't exchange 100%.. and the motor is a copy of a copy.. anyone can import these and sell them, do big deal
Face it every HPI model out there is from China. HPI isn't any better then any other reproduced Baja. All HPI did was bring it out here to the states.Every plastic piece you see comes from a mold. KM isn't the only company out there making a Baja. I think HPI owners get this big head cause they spent $900-$1100 when they can get the same thing for half the price. They all come from the same country and made from the same construction.
There for we in the U.S. with HPI's have a clone of what china has already had. Maybe I'll take you to china with me next time I go. See for yourself.
hey, bushless55, I am just curious, do you have any links or what to search to find proven fact on that they are made by different buildhouses? and btw, if King motor used molds to copy the baja 5b, wouldn't there be two different injection molding lines? one from the copy they made and one from the piece they make.
I would like to believe they are made by different companies but it just look that way and I'm going to have to see some hard facts to think otherwise.
No I cannot post that here, but I can say they us the first gen HPI for their molds they made and use a different plastic that does not hold up like the new and original HPI plastic.. Don't get me wrong, I like these buggies and I do own one..
I hope to have a video of it soon..
BTW, I was going to import these until I found out after alot of research, they are not made by the same manufacture..
@brushless55 hpi uses on the 5t and ss the nylon plastic.. single woven strands melted together for a really strong piece. km uses a carbon fiber plastic-i think. the nylon and carbon are pretty much the same just cost dif and also one holds up alot better since it will give instad of breaking under alot of strain. but in cold weather they both will break so ally is best. since u can always bend it back :)
I got mine in and I messed up the side pod on the pull start side because the plastic underbody dragged on the ground or grass and got ripped off. The pullstart got full of dirt and wouldn't recoil after pulling, after fixing it I decided not to run on dirt until my outterware pullstart cover.
do you think these are better then hpi baja cause i dont on wich one to get

anything broke so far?
Naturepheonix 1 year ago
@Naturepheonix
I've had to replace the front Upper Plate, Shock Tower, and Shock Tower Supports
however, that's not KM's fault, it's mine
jumped it way too far, then landed into a tree
expected worse to be honest..
replaced them with alloy stuff ;)
oh.... I torn up the stock rear tires very quickly (first day of dirt)
that I do blame KM for
the stock tires are really crappy, be prepared to replace them
I got some legit tires from a local hobby shop that haven't given yet

@wwjoeyd oooooo
I might be getting a KM, not this version, the more later versions. :D
KM ROCKS HPI SOCKS!

They do not come from the same manufacture...
this has been proven on a few websites out there
KM uses molds they copied from HPI and thats why they look the same..

what parts aren't interchangeable ?
just curious
wwjoeyd 2 years ago
All are interchagable the only thing differant is the name.
pinedo76 2 years ago
well brushless55 says that they dont exchange 100%...
I personally haven't found one part that doesn't fit on my baja
JosephMBoyer 2 years ago
not all parts are interchangeable..
some you need to replace many parts to get one to fit right

@liliao89
Actually, the KMs break more
I own one and I've replaced the plastics with actual HPI parts and those are holding up much better than my KM plastics did..
brushless55 1 year ago
@brushless55 yeah but was the breaking of the parts your fault or kms? maybe you were bashing it too hard..
A11DAyEV3RYDAY 8 months ago
would you recomend this or should i go ahead and get the HPI baja? the only factor for me is performance.
chimpzahoy 2 years ago
Well if price isnt a factor... get the HPI baja
