  • I must say your tune up has worked wonders, the acceleration is really impressive!

  • @MGBGT1800 Thanks for your input, i just bought my Morris 1100 today for $550. It needs a fair bit of work but that doesn't matter because i still have a year and a half until i get my p plates. But restoring it will be half the fun. Once again, Thanks :)

  • What do you think of this car being my first car? Also, are the parts rare at all? Thanks :)

  • @MrSup2121 They make a fantastic first car. Easy to insure, economical and fun to drive!

Most of the mechanical parts can be found from either a Mini or MG specialist, as they share so many standard parts! There are a couple of companies which supply all the unique parts too for reasonable prices. Have a google for 'young guns classics' and join the forum there. I'm 21 now and still use mine most days!

  • my father had one of these in the sixties, he was a traveling salesman, he literealy worked it to death, they were value for money..

  • well made video !

  • I have a couple of Rover P4's & a 57 Dodge Coronet, but I'm an ol' fella in my mid 60's & been on the classic car scene 22 years now. It's really nice to see the youngsters taking an interest in these cars. We could do with as many as we can get! Those 1100/1300's were nice cars. Keep up the good work!

  • I love the strip speedo :) Nice car, I'm jealous!

  • Got one exaclty like it ! =]

Can't wait to get my license so i could drive it (:

  • @BaldwinU

Fantastic! I'm a member of a forum for young classic enthusiasts, I'm 20 myself. We'd love to have you posting, so we can see your 1100! If you google young guns classics you should find us.

  • Lovely old car, keep it safe!

  • I love how bottom gear "sings" like that!

  • That took me back years1 my Dad had one of these and as a boy I remember the inside well

  • I had two of those....the first one was the best.

  • I still think this is one of the coolest rides ever........ever.

  • Was the 1100 a 4-speed?

  • @sheps999

It was yes, you'd do well to get a 5 speed in 1964, that was reserved for supercars for another few years!

  • @MGBGT1800 Haha, true. Still, your Austin seemed to do motorway driving quite easily.

  • @MGBGT1800 Woops, wrong person :P That was another video.

  • @MGBGT1800 The Maxi in 69 was 5 speed!

  • @mgb40v8

This is about 18 months ago now I think, but if memory serves me the clutch throw out just wasn't adjusted correctly. It's fine now, after many miles it does need a new release bearing though.

  • My Brother had one of these!

The dash board came off when he decided to try jump some railway tracks

  • @Crittique Christ, really?? I've never heard of that happening in any car. That must've given your brother quite a start!

  • @quirpco The car was bought for $80NZD and lasted less than half a year before it just wouldn't start one day.

He drove it as if he was Knight Rider and was a tinkerer who could take anything a part but not put anything back together properly so that's probably what he did to the dash board.

  • @Crittique LOL

  • Cool that it's looking good and running so well.

Have to say, my dad had a 1969 model in the early 70's and thought it was so crap he literally threw it away and bought an Escort instead!

  • I bet the interior smells wonderful :)

  • I had a 64 1100, lovely little car. Mine was registered in Jan 64 so was made in 63. It had no synchro on 1st gear. The all synchro boxes had a straight gear lever mne was slightly cranked at the base so they were easy to spot.

Having no sync on 1st was never a problem if you wanted 1st on the move providing you were going slow you simply placed it into neutral for a few secs ond de -clutched

  • I stiil have one in my garage. 1972 2 door. Still needs a bit of work. This will get me back on coarse. Cheers

  • Wonderful suspension they had too.

  • Not just one-handed driving, at one stage this guy needs to take BOTH hands of the steering wheel just to push his sleeve up (watch at 1:00 minute). Man, that is some bad driving.

  • @stephend909 It's not bad driving - just casual driving!

  • I had one of these Mine had a great engine in it but Heel Board went as usual I did try to repair it but even back in the seventies when MOT's were not as strict as today my local garage did not take kindly to me taking the back seat out cutting a big hole in the body to get to the heel board and replacing it that way needless to say it failed. Thanks for the VID .

  • good old 1100 hey lovely cars to drive i had a few of them oh memories ; )

    thaks for posting

  • Great car. I remember them well. You must make your father proud!

  • Proud when it works :( He has since sold the Riley you can see parked in the garage

  • The A-Series was the last good British engine.

  • haha you're right there! When it has oil pressure anyway...

  • @MrMoterKid

Rovers 'K' is excellent until it breaks!

  • This was Issigonis's last great design in my opinion,up there with the Minor and Mini.

  • Not as sought after as either, thankfully! Always go for the underdog :)

  • Really took me back to my old 1100, JSS 947C. Well done for keeping it going.

  • great car but, you drive it like a teenger one handed.

  • I AM a teenager, and the steering is that light at low speeds I find it easier to, not to mention smoother.

  • Lol, i'm nearly 30 and i drive one handed alot of the time!! Dont worry about it mate, drive how you feel most comfortable! :o)

  • @blueskiesmp Couldn't agree more. If I drove 300 miles with both hands, like you see some people doing, I'd be so tired at the end!! A good driver can use just one fingertip and thumb and be perfectly safe.

  • to be honest I don't think I've done anything big recently, fitted a rear fog and reverse lamp, wired in a very discreet amp and made a new parcel shelf for speakers so I don't destroy originality...

I must make a new video soon :P

  • hey steve

hows she going now, done any more to her

  • Is that the original engine and box Steve?

I always thought mk1's didnt have syncros? Yet the box on that sounds really sweet:)I must film my Maxi sometime like that..

    Thnxs 4 postin

  • Oh the mk1 has synchros alright, but only on 2nd 3rd and 4th.

It's running a lot better now too, I regularly get somments on how well it's going!

  • Oh does that bring back some memories! :)

I had a '67 1100 in U.S. trim (drivers side on the left).

Does your 1100's generator short out in the rain too?

  • Funnily enough the dynamo never worked in it, neither did the regulator box so I converted to negative earth, soldered the reg. into a junction box and fitted an alternator, that and a new battery and I have it jump starting modern cars! Got the rubber bits over the distributor and coil too, seem to do their job nicely!

  • I always wanted to do that, but was in school and didn't have the time or money. About the only other thing that would go wrong on mine was the richness screw setting on the old SU dashpot carburator. Wish I'd kept my old green machine! They're neat little cars!

  • hey there hows the car running now mate

  • It's running the best at the minute, going to set the mixture in the morning, so I hope it's still working after that!

  • Definitely are a rare beast, not hard to see why when I bought it, lots of welding done and there was still a LOT of rust still to cut out.

I don't remember ever seeing one on the roads, my dad's Kestrel 1300 doesn't count does it?

  • Driving it kind of fast and wildly for a classic, aren't you? Anyway, I never got to go in an 1100 to my knowledge - I had no idea they sounded so good!

Love the spartan 1960s interior - wonderful!

  • Fast? I wish I had the choice! When I watch that video on my harddrive it's normal speed, seems to have been speeded up on this...

  • Well it was faster than I was expecting!

Interior looks great and despite it being a challenge sometimes, it's quite a fantastic feeling to have a great piece of rolling history on the road!

  • it's a great feeling made better by the fact it's been 2 years in the making, bought it as a bit of a wreck, can't beat driving something a bit different age 18, get quite a few looks ;)

  • I'm old enough to say that I remember them on "every street corner" as a kid - indeed they were the best selling car in the UK for years - and now you would have to count yourself as lucky to see one on the roads. Nice to see somebody putting in the monumental effort to clean up a true classic!

  • It's worth it alone for the comments I get at the petrol station!

  • lol,but its worth it at the end of the day :D

  • i saw u pumping the clutch, maybe the master cylinder or slave cylinder has gone but still keep hold of it bloody good cars:¬)

  • Good observation! Just changed the hose and slave cylinder yesterday, much better now!

    Blimmin' moneypit :P

  • wicked video, bought back a lot of memories for me and my parents

  • Thanks :D

Got it MoT'd shortly after that, and since then the speedo has stopped working and the clutch has given up... The joys of classic motoring!

  • Alright Steve?

Stitib is looking and sounding awesome (:
