I'd second "Highlander 2" and "Exorcist 2", but in terms of being an insult to a true classic, I'd say "2010" (sequel to "2001"). It simply angered me that they'd even dare mess with Kubrick's masterpiece.
I do have to defend "Superman 4" though. I felt only the budget (and Kidder's performance, though she barley appeared anyway) was bad. But the story and idea behind it were good. Certainly Nuclear Man was a good (if one dimensional) villain.
Hehe great video. For me it has to be X-Files 2: I Want to Believe...a stand alone episode-type story, on my fave TV series, turned to a movie? Great! But it was such a cheap, boring, aggravating, boring, shitty movie with a piss-poor story (head transplants??) that made me angry and sad and shocked. I love the X-Files and this movie just crushed me. If the cgi TMNT movie is looked at as a sequel, that would be one too. Heh Superman: Quest for Cash is bad, luv the lady who breathes in space. lol
@ramboraph4life You know I couldn't bring myself to watch The X-files 2 because it just looked like such a cheap cash in. I would have rather they did like a min-series or a one off TV movie. TMNT animated I only saw a part of, but I thought it seemed OK. Was it really that bad?
I actually liked the second X-Files movie more than the first one. I'm a bigger fan of the early seasons of the show, when it was a little quieter, maybe a little more on the cheap, more atmosphere and less spectacle. And I had gotten fed up with the aliens. So a smaller story, a little more down to earth, with Mulder walking around snowy Vancouver locations again, I just dug it.
Rob Zombie's Halloween 2. I was a fan of his films, especially The Devil's Rejects, and I thought he did a fairly decent enough remake of the original Halloween, and while it can't touch the original, it was decent nonetheless. But H2 was absolute garbage. It made me seriously re-evaluate Rob Zombie as being a competent director. His filmmaking career took a major hit, and it really hasn't recovered since, honestly. Hopefully he can rebound, but yeah, H2 was a disaster.
@thebrb30000 Hey mate. I have yet to watch the Halloween remakes. I hear the first condensed the entire first film into the latter half of the film. Would be interesting to watch. I have to say, I haven't watched The Devil's Rejects yet although I hear great things about it.
@HorrorOfMike The Halloween remakes are not "mandatory" films to watch, in the sense that they aren't very important horror films. You can skip them, and it's not a big deal. But The Devil's Rejects is a "must watch" film for horror fans. Rob Zombie has his fair share of fans and detractors, but Rejects is a modern horror masterpiece, IMO.
@Areashiftybun Unfortunately with this laptop I have to. The webcam mic is terrible and I have to hold the shotgun mic because I don't have a microphone stand....oh wait...... ;)
@mastermary2 Yeah the first one really is great. Very gritty, and worked brilliantly the way the narrative jumped around. Also, it had Sean Connery playing an Egyptian pretending to be a Spaniard using a Scottish accent. You'll never see that again.
@mastermary2 Agreed on both accounts. Have you seen Exorcist III? I think it's really great. It does have a tacked on Hollywood ending, but apart from that it's a really effective horror film. It really makes up for the mess that is The Heretic. In fact, this really is the only other legit Exorcist film.
Has to be Highlander 2, man that sucked the big one! It destroyed a classic, Superman 4 was indeed rubbish but IMHO Highlander 2 is the worst sequel ever.
@HorrorOfMike Even Sean Connery couldnt save that film, still it did have Michael Ironside in ;-) Nice show by the way, im not sure how I stumbled upon your channel (Cinefiles i think) but i really like it, thumbs up and all that.
@HorrorOfMike Ha, Zardoz. Still the only movie I remember where half of someone's body grows older than the other. Actually, I doubt that's the only thing that Zardoz stands alone on. Even Sean Connery can't make a speedo and boots look good together.
@FILMishist Zardoz is such a mind job. There are people who absolutely love it. It's interesting for being so incredible out of its mind, but I think the message it sends is quite a dark one.
That's funny. At the beginning my 1st thought was Superman Returns. Then you said Superman 4 :) I was more disappointed with ...Returns. Can't remember being so bored in the cinema as during that film. Sorry to say. Had hopes. A forthcoming prequel I'm a bit worried about is the new The Thing. Carpenter's one is one of my favourite films ever. I hope the new one is just as good *he crosses fingers and holds breath*
@OneDeviousBastard I totally agree with Spiderman 3. I don't blame Sam Raimi though. I think the film was messed with by the studios. You can tell that the film was supposed to be about Sandman, but the studios forced Raimi to squeeze Venom in; a villain he repeatedly stated he didn't want to use.
@sean270674 LOL. You know I went to see it at the cinema and it is SO forgettable, I can't remember that much about it. I love Ringu and the American The Ring, I think both films are great examples of a Japanese ghost story and an American ghost story respectively.
@IceCreamSuit LOL. Exorcist II is terrible. I haven't watched it since I was a kid, but I remember really laughing at it. It's a shame Richard Burton is in it and bizarrely directed by John Boorman who I think did great work with Deliverance and Excalibur. Luckily they made up for it with Exorcist III which I think is a real gem! Yeah those DVD sequels look like a real cash in. I haven't watched any of them though.
I loved the Orignal houe but House 2 practically turned into a Kids movie, lost all sense of real Horror and became completly farsical in places! I think just talking about it made me a little bit sick in my mouth! The whole fantasy element they introduced was just pure Bollocks!
Agree about Sups IV, didn'yt Reeves apologise publically for it? My fav bit as you said Sup's rebuilds the Great Wall of China with his eyes!
@lawnboyspost1975 Mate! I'm gonna have to say that I love House 2! I do agree though, it has NOTHING to do with the first film. The first film is a brilliant horror with comedy elements, whereas the second has no connection in plot and is a comedy fantasy movie. I'd understand if it let you down because it should be a stand alone movie rather than marketed as a sequel. The worst thing is they marketed The Horror Show ( a stand alone film) as House 3 over here! Crazy. You know there is a House 4?
The last Indiana Jones film - Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls. To me, it looked like it was made for the sole purpose of establishing Shia LaBeouf as the heir to the franchise. I guess that's two reasons not to like it. :)
@PhiloYT1 Hey mate! Always good to hear from you. I think it would stand fine if it were just an adventure film rather than an Indy movie. I can't believe they didn't just approach it like the others and film it real world rather than the ridiculous CG. Seriously, a fridge? My opinion of the film has actually got worse over time, although I can still enjoy bits of it just for Harrison Ford alone.
One of the lesser known ones I can think of is Battle Royale 2: Requiem, It was so disappointing! I genuinely wish it wasn't made! Especially since I loved the first one so much.
@TINYHUNTERUK I'm ashamed to say that I haven't even watched the original. My friend Alan is always recommending it. I just got finished with two of his other recommendations in Paprika and Demon City Shinjuku, so I will be checking it out and doing a review :)
The first one that comes to mind for me is,Blair Witch 2,or Book of Shadows,or whatever. That movie had more wtf? moments than any other I had seen in a long while. It was a real shame for me,because i enjoyed the first one so much.Later, buddy!
@munky2ube Yeah Blair Witch Project 2 is really bad. It was just completely disconnected from the first film in terms of style, approach, and content. It's a great example of people just trying to cash in on something for money rather than attempting to make something special.
The Crow 2: I was big into the first one, seeing it in the theater 3 times. And I think I actually left the theater before The Crow 2 finished, just horrible.
Blade: Trinity: I thought the first Blade was ok, then really liked Del Toro's Blade 2, so I wanted to vomit after seeing the turd that is Blade: Trinity.
Attack of the Clones: Most people might say Phantom Menace, but I feel that has some redeeming qualities (Darth Maul), while AotC is nearly unwatchable.
@FILMishist I remember watching a little of the Crow sequel, but I was a big fan of the original when it came out and it just wasn't the same without Brandon Lee. Blade Trinity was absolutely woeful, it was obviously geared towards a spin-off. A real shame as I think Blade 2 is fantastic. It's funny you mention AOTC as I uploaded a video before this ( the stream failed unfortunately) mentioning it as one of the worst sequels. So boring and the romantic dialogue was just horrible.
@HorrorOfMike Just read that they're rebooting The Crow and the names they're throwing around are Bradley Cooper (who apparently is dropping out), Mark Wahlberg, and Channing Tatum. WTF? Channing Tatum already ruined one of my favorite things as a kid (G.I. Joe, although I can't put all the blame on him alone) and Wahlberg can be good, but not for this. Having said that, I don't really know who would be good for the role, maybe I just want Hollywood to leave this one alone.
@FILMishist Yeah I read about the reboot. For me I think the actor who plays the crow has to be both strong and vulnerable while brooding at their loss. I'm not sure who would do it justice. I like Bradley Cooper and Wahlberg but I can't see them being right for the role.
I agree with your video and the other posts and will add 2 sequels of my own: Jaws III and Jaws the Revenge!!! Even though nothing will ever equal the first Jaws, at least the second movie attempted to do a COMPETENT continuation of the story. III and The Revenge had absolutely NOTHING to do with the first ones!!! Besides just being horrible movies!!!! ARRRRRRRGH!!!!!!!!!!!!
@mmc78 Jaws 4 is especially terrible. Slow motion Michael Caine falling with a roaring shark FTW. Now sharks can hunt people telepathically for revenge? Oh dear...
Watched BATMAN & ROBIN again this morning. I've tried to deny this out from my will. I saw that movie in theaters, and was in great denial that it was terrible, but little by little, my spirits broke and I had to sucumb to the agony that is....... the Bat Credit Card. Yea, the colors are cool, and thank you, Mr. Joel, for the close up shot of Batgirl's lovely leather cheeks.........but it's just sad a Batman movie could be that terrible......
@van8ryan Haha, I know what it's like trying to persuade yourself a film is great and then having to concede in the end that it isn't. I think the downhill trajectory started with Forever. It was originally a Burton idea that would have perfectly ended his trilogy with Batman no longer filled with revenge but rather justice. Instead we got bat nipples. At least Forever is watchable compared to B&R though. That film is UNBELIEVABLE.
@badhead LOL that made me laugh. I can imagine you irate watching that. You know there's a special edition where they went back and remastered it? I mean of all the films...
