you see,suggesting a commision doesn't preclude doing other things as well, which appears to be what Obama is suggesting that Mccain is suggesting. Just today Obama said he wouldn't offer his proposals until after he heard what the FED would do. BUT I THOUGHT IT WAS URGENT!!! Where's the leadership? You mean he wants to wait a bit to find out whats going on before making a proposal? Here's a thought. How about also having a comission, meeting and panel with various people just to get an overview

If it takes weeks to put together a panel (and I'm assuming even longer to put together a commision) then obviously his suggesting that he would put together a panel wouldn't address issues that had to be addresssed NOW. That might be handled by MEETINGS for example.

See, you can advocate a comission to determine long term solutions and at the same time also have meetings with advisors and SEC heads and even panels in the interim. Are you unaware of this?

Kilmeade says the bill McCain supported was killed in a Democrat congress, but the Dems didn't take over until AFTER the 2006 elections. Besides, even the republicans said that the White house was against the proposal in question. If McCain was such a huge supporter of the measure in 2005, why didn't he cosponser a similar bill in 2007?

So, in the same speech obama said that he would setup an advisory panel to deal with the current economic crisis. What exactly is the difference between a committee and an advisory panel in your mind?

you'll note that Obama has been part of many committees on various topics, so its not like he's against them (ie 9/11 comittee committee on social security.

But he's also set up advisory councils like the Latino Advisory Council.so how does an advisory group differ from an advisory council, differ from a commitee? Has he set up any panels to look into issues too?

He also set up an advisory group to discuss his vice presidential pick. And who was on that again?CEO's from Fannie Mae perhaps?

Please, how long does it take to put together a panel versus a comission? It takes time to put together a pane too. But at any case, what ultimately is the difference? Sounds like the commision is the more balanced approach anyway, and the panel the more adhoc one according to you. In other words, to get some quick advice you call some people and meet immediately. To delve more deeply into an issue and hear from all sides you empanel a commission.

And at any rate, to distinguish your leadership from your opponets by ridiculing his suggestion that he would setup a comission versus your setting up a panel is really arguing over a distinction without a distinction.

How is empaneling a panel somehow a mark of leadership while setting up a commision, not? And vice versa. Both are simply saying they will get a bunch of experts to look into the of the issue and propose solutions. Panel versus commision is simply using synonyms for the same thing

The funniest thing about thiswhole thing is that in the same speech only a few minutes later Obama says he would call for an "Advisory Group" to meet with the president regarding the current economic scenario.

Ah yes, comissions are bad (despite the fact that Obama has been for so many of them) and the oldest trick in the book. But advisory groups.... now that is some serious leadership. His other idea is to put together a council and or a gathering of economists and maybe even a panel.
