@walterrooks: This was a song originally composed for the show (words and melody); it was written by Jeff Moss in 1971. (If he had some classical tune in mind when he wrote this, I can't tell which!)
I have a 22 month old son with Down Syndrome and we are working on his speech/phonics. I just stumbled across this and it took me back to my youth. I loved this then and now I can still enjoy it while educating and entertaining my son at the same time! THANKS FOR POSTING!
Great, Genius. I remember watching this with my kids and being staggered by the sweetness and the odd time signature, 7/4. Then I realized that G is the 7th letter. The composers were setting themselves, and the singers, a challenge, while still educating and entertaining. Brilliant.
Does anyone know the name of the melody playing? Isn't it Vivaldi possibly?

What the heck is the time signature for this song? Darn Sesame Street and it's complexity, developing preschoolers' brains.

This song makes me think of my grandmother and mom, for some reason. They used to sing this to me together. Such a great memory!

@sorcha905 It's good to hear that a parent knows the importance of exposing children to Sesame Street.
