Hi Sara, Oh my God, this is just fabuous! I love it so much. Such interpretation and wow those low notes. You are just amazing! I am a big fan. Vicky in Dublin
Nice. But there are much better versions on YT. Best of all it sounds in countertenors' renditions. The most beautiful version is Nicholas Spanos's. That is just otherworldly.
@tamerlano236 Please, don't compare a contralto to a countertenor. Both voices are very different. Sara Mingardo is one of the finest contraltos out there... Nicholas Spanos is not even closer good as Sara, he's not even as much longer in the classical music scene as her and he's not different from any other countertenor. His voice is totally common. But nonetheless, he's a nice singer too, just nothing special in my opinion.
@starbreez3 It's possible to compare different versions. Countertenors are compared with contraltos and mezzos too. Daniels is compared with Horne. Tastes differ. Here we agree to disagree. You can dislike countertenors. Some people like them. It doesn't matter how long any artist has been in the classical music scene. Only their talent matters. You find nothing special in him, his fans think different. Any artist has their own fans. This is a nice version too.
@tamerlano236 I find it very, very unpleasant when a mezzo sings a contralto role. Either way, it's not that I dislike countertenors! I'm a countertenor!
For me trying to compare contralto to countertenor is nothing. First of all why comparing? Countertenors have their own voice, they don't have to sound like women, like a contralto. And if they try it's just stupid and start to get annoying, just like Philippe Jaroussky. But it's just a mater of tastes, you're a fan, so anyways :-)
@beatrice6339 Well that's what I wanted to say on my comment. In my opinion Sara Mingardo is the best contralto at the moment in the Baroque repertoire. I adore her, her voice is warm is volumptous. It's just everything for me =). And I know she's a contralto. And I'm actually singing as well, please, there's no need to become aggressive, it was just your minsunderstanding.
Very rich voice, though I prefer the countertenor timbre for this piece. Still, as an alto myself, I appreciate her quality and musicality. I do think the tempo here is much too slow.
This performance sends shivers down my spine. Her vocal performance is flawless, her acting stunning and her lower range is just unbelievable. Thanks for posting
Sublime, heavenly music! But her voice doesn't seem to me the best match to it at all. This aria sounds the most beautiful in countertenors' renditions. The best version is Nicholas Spanos's, then Andreas Scholl's!
Dear, controtenori( countertenors) is italian word and italian invention! Contraltos will never replace contertenors because originaly great composers like Hendel,Mozart,Vivaldi, etc. wrote for them their masterpieces and didn't see them any alternative. Maybe you want to sound like Mozart???
I don't give a damn who you are! You can be Pergolesi himself! If a professional musician is so arrogant and intollerant towards a certain category of voices, what to say then about ordinary ignorant people! I think that the best countetenors do have voices caldi e corposi. They have a specific tone which no other voices, have, icluding your beloved contraltos. Because of it they sound sublime and heavenly. There's a special magic in high male voices which allows to "fly away" to a better world
None of your wonderful contraltos (and no women at all) have this magic in their voices! These are all traditional, down-to-earth voices, with which I stay in this world, not carried away! Before people understood it. There were castrati. No women could replace their quality. You should know it. OK, there are no castrati now. You think that countertenors don't have the right to exist? For me it's not fashion but necessity! And who should sing castrati roles?
I usually dont like when singers dont sing what is written in the score and improvise, but her low D and the jump to octaves up to the high D was perfect

@starbreez3 Sorry but Sara Mingardo is a Contralto; and if you could sing any better than her, you would be singing instead of her, but your not.

BTW, in the programm for a concert next weeks in Rome, she is mentioned as a mezzosoprano. Well, if Sara is a mezzo, then altos don't exist!!!

I just listened to it again, it is a low D flat

@margotlorena The embellishment down to the low D-flat is impressive but not very beautiful, in my opinion.
