  • Wow this is awesome! Never seen this footage before. That original grassy demo was terrible (with the Nights engine) but this is pretty slick!

  • you know out of all the games that were never finished and/or released this is my most favourite one

  • wow that game is cool!... well except of the fish eye camera but have an excellent soundtrack (watch the other videos).

  • Damn the Saturn's really showing it's true power with Sonic Xtreme. The holy grail of unrealesed games. I would love to get my grubby mitts on this!

  • somebody must have these demos somewhere

i wish someone would leak them

and then someone could compile on one disk

  • i heared that there are a few peope that have the demos but thy dont reallese it, i really would like to try this game

  • Wow, this is really the only level that makes me question their decision to not release this game. Everything else looks a bit incomplete... but this one really highlights some of the shape-shifting transformation of the levels and looks genuinely speedy and trippy.

Sega's downfall is their own fault it seems.

  • fucking nice!!

  • are they still making Tails first person view level and Knuckles and Tiras (i think thats what shes called) side scrolling levels

  • the game has been cancelled since 1996

  • i know but there's this website that's finishing it

  • whats the site? are they really finishing it, are they going to realese it?

  • Yep. its called Senntient and its led by one of the former developers of the game

  • wow awesome, is it going to use the same fish eye engine?

  • Sadly no

  • to bad :\ i would like to try it with the fish eye engine but without it humm i don't know :\

is it coming for any emulator?

  • No its a pc game

  • ok thanks

  • If this had come out, Saturn's history would have been a diferent one.

  • A new zone, and new song! Cool!

  • MAAAN i want this so bad!!!

  • I really like these videos. I'm amazed there sounds like there was a shitstorm over these videos. I wish they were out sooner. I love this music. The game looks awesome... Depressing.

  • The game isn't Depressing its your comment thats Depressing

  • This strangely reminds me of the purple/yellow checkerboard overworld screen in Sonic Crackers.

  • A-MA-ZING !!!! o_O

So nice ! Very impressive and original (do you know any games that use descent fish-eye view ? ).

  • Well no, no other game has been close to impliment Ofer Alons fish eye. The closest would have to be Mario Galaxy with the spherical worlds. But thats about it.

  • This actually reminds me of Mario Galaxy. Really strange... FUCKING strange how Nintendo succeeded with that almost ten years after Sega was apprehensive about releasing a game with it because they didn't think it would work. Wow.

  • Sonic X-treme wasn't released because SEGA thought the idea was poor. It was the lack of co-operation with SEGA Japan and the Sonic Team that caused the games downfall plus many many other things.

If this was released, who knows maybe the industry would be different now. And i guess Nintendo wouldn't off made Super Mario Galaxy.

Apon that there is a vast difference between Galaxy and X-treme, Galaxy's levels are spheres making the platforms into little planets, X-treme is just a camera lense.

  • Well, I'm pretty sure Galaxy also utilizes fish-eye to some extent, and while the levels are more spherical, Sonic Xtreme's levels are also designed in a circular pattern somewhat.

I've read that a huge twist in the development was when this guy Ofer was fired... not sure I understand why.

  • Ofer was dimissed from working on Sonic X-treme, but he carried on working with Chris Senn to make the PC version, which is one of the levels you are watching now. The SEGA PC group wouldn't publish the game for them which caused the end of X-treme.

Galaxy doesn't use the fish eye lense in anyway shape or form.

  • Sega /sonicteam has nothing, nothing on this. And this is like 9 years old, imagine if the game were released. Sonicteam would HAVE to live up to this standard, and any game released after adventure 2 might have been decent.

  • They can't even live up to the standards of SA1/2... Although Unleashed was really enjoyable.

  • Boo, this wouldv'e been awesome.

  • We can only imagine how sonic's career would be if this game was released...

  • Gives me creeps

  • WOW i just noticed this but the rings in this look strangely likr the ones in unleashed

  • Cool music, it reminds me Depeche Mode.

  • Holy crap I love that music.

  • but XkaiminalX?

i heard that chris didn't wanted this to be released to public from chris because he wanted to forget about sonic x-treme :(

why did he allowed it at last?

    because it was already spread??

  • NO, he didn't want it released because one of the other designers wished for it not to be released.

  • wtf, why does all the good sonic xtreme stuff happen when i am on vacation >_>

  • hey as you kan see the text 3d view is in all of this vids.

but that means he is rendering it from his engine so he can preview it whilst developing ^^

  • good vid but how did you got this new demonstations?

did you got them from Chris Senn or Ofer Alan on the sentient forums?

  • I got these through the people that had these before they were released. Chris never gave them to me, but i told him straight away that i had them.

  • Wait...where did Chris (Developer) release them?

  • Wow its a shame that this game was never finished. the gameplay looks like i could have been the basis of the night's engine.

  • Ah, right. Upload when you can and thanks :]

Put in description, if you can upload.

    Thanks again.

  • Did the music come in a seperate MP3 file or was it with the video and your just gonna rip it off xD

  • It was with the video, but i got the MP3 from a link Chris Senn gave to me months ago when i was given these videos.

  • Where did you get the song from btw.

  • Thats the music that came with the level video.

  • Thank you ;]

  • Of this video, there is some posted on SonicRetro, though I was wondering if there is a full mp3 track of this :P

  • Ohhh of the music, yeah i have that as well. I'll put it on a download link when i get chance to.

  • Do you know where I can find a video of this, or a download perhaps, it isnt on Senntient

  • Well i could put a download link on the video if you want to.

  • The music for this game is fucking epic, who composed it?

  • It was composed by Christian Senn.

  • no way more xtreme

  • I wish i could release more, but after the trouble i went through when i released the 15 second clip of this level, i think i need to lay low for a bit.

  • Amazingly, their first attempt 12 years ago still looks more promising than any other 3D Sonic game.

  • Considering that Chris made the tune, this may have ended up the song for the stage. Not really, but it still kicks ass.

  • Very stylish, reminds me of Mario Galaxy.

  • damn i figured i'd hear the actual level music to it =/

  • the problem with this game is that the levels don't look 'sonicy' Otherwise good game

  • That would have been a really good rival for Mario 64.

Oh man, I want to play it. -.-

  • Why did this game get canned? The Saturn needed a proper Sonic game!

  • No one saw it, When Nakayama was at the STI to see how X-treme was coming along, Chris and Ofer missed him to show him this.

  • Wow that's very interesting information. I really do feel a bit disappointed they never got to show this to Nakayama, Chris and Ofer really did a great job on this. I also like the track Chris did, it's really cool and fits the level really well. Thanks for the upload.

  • Wow, this would have been a great game. it just looks like pure fun, and the music, while a little unusual is kinda fitting.

  • Save the Saturn? Maybe.

    Rival Mario 64? Nah.

Still wish I could play it though.

  • Nice! Is the background music a song or something?

  • Watching these videos always gives me a headache. A fish-eye lens? Ugh.

  • You're just boring.

  • THIS IS AN EPIC VIDEO

  • damn you to hell sega!!!!

  • An interesting look at what could be.

Shame this game was originally canned, I blame Nights for all of this.

  • NiGHTS is a better game anyway.

  • Word.

  • Oh i see, Very creative levels though

  • Yeah they are, i remember when i first got this back in August, i nearly felt sick because of the twists and turns.

  • That level looks better than anything put in Crash bandicoot 1. Why on earth did they not realise it lol? We wouldn't have arse like Crash bandicoot mind over mutant to day if this was realised

  • SEGA PC refused to for some reason or another. but i'll explain later.

  • Can you explain sooner? lol, just jokin.

But seriously, why didn't they want to release this?

  • The two videos that weren't released were Ofers levels that he made without Chris i think. Ofer didn't want these released because he didn't like his work being shared so these were kept back.

  • No way in hell. That's a pretty bold statement. This doesn't look to offer anywhere near the fun of a Crash level. Don't let that fancy camera fool you into thinking it's any fun just cuz it looks impressive. That's the impression I get from most people going on aobut how great it could have been anyway. Were it released I bet it would be a different story. I'm positive :)

  • What the fuck would a Sega game have to do with Crash Bandicoot games?

Thats like saying "With Mario Galaxy we'll never see games like Imagine Babyz Party on the wii again!"

  • It looks like the sort of game what could have a chance of elminating the competition god calm it you fucking nerd :l
