Ridiculously complex and dependent on battsthat are not rechagable, not 2032s or AAs or AAAs ... Needs SALT? ... too and basically synthesizes Chlorox ... LoL !! Potassium Parmanganate or a Steripen or even plain ol' Chlorox makes WAY more sense ...
... So ... How much did they pay you to hawk this worthless POC ?
... Time for me to un-subscibe from your channel ... your ethics have clearly gone awry. There is a word for what I'm thinking you have become.
@phrankus2009 Cr123 are a standard battery used by the military and surefire. Guess who this was originally designed for? It was designed to be a light option that can create large quantities of water. If you are making large quantities of water it is faster then using a pump filter. It's nice to have if you are somewhere like the Hinku Kush mountains.
@otetechie Very interesting and informative ... I love being "taken to school". - But, still makes no sense to me (this system) on a per-pound basis (never mind "special" batteries plus salt) ... just the weight of the unit plus adequate quantities of salt ... ?! ... Given the many other options ? ... The shelf-life of liquid Chlorox is fairly long ... I'm guessing that some sort of swimming pool crystals would be even more stable and compact ... Steripens also ude VERY little power (rechrg)

I have this,I love it, it works against crypto which chlorine or iodine wont kill, lasts for a long time, if you treat water and set over night it tastes much better, but still not bad, and anything is better then cryptosporidium
Could the miox water purifier be used in combination with a water filter pump that might not filter virus?
I was looking through the range from MSR and liked the smaler pumps, but noticed that they did not filter chemicals and viruses. What would be a good combination that would filter everything including viruses and chemicals?
@Quantrill71 The water doesn't have to be clear to use, unlike the steripen(SP) UV style systems. She is probably eluding to the fact that it isn't a filter and you can get sediment in your water.
might as well use a chlorine tablet for water treatment if your just worried about nasty things in clear water get a stera pen ultraviolet light pen. they last longer dont need salt and are easier to use,
I have two MSR MIOX systems and you don't have to wait 30 min for the solution to do it's stuff when you add it to your water supply. A couple hard shakes and 1 min is all you need and you're good to go. Used the MIOX from Sao Paulo, Brasil all the way up to Nome, AK and everywhere else in between. I keep one in my personal survival pack and one in my automobile survival pack.
Kind of complicated huh! I've used iodine and crystal light powder mix. water tasts great and is done in 30min. No matter whats in the water. I would still filter through a bandanna or something no matter how pure and clean that water looks.
interesting, very useful device , store bought bleach has a limited shelf life...and contain unwanted additives...can you use this to like regular bleach put on a rag to clean with or wash things ?
I have to say that I have tried this thing and it sucks.

I just ordered one that was on eBay as part of a military kit. All brand new and $80. It seems to be a great kit item for emergencies.

It generates sodium hyperchloride right? So.... you could also bring along 100ml of bleach for the same size and it would purify about 500L of water.

You didn't even use it right, you put in the water in the middle part. Not all in the top.

Those strips are pretty handy. Do they have any strips like that for detecting chemicals in water?

This can't be real? 30 minutes to 4 hours? I hope it does not cost much.
freewill51 2 years ago
@freewill51 it cost something like $120. To me it seems not worth it. Seems like a big PITA. I'll take the Miniworks EX anyday.

Interesting , but a Katadyn filter and chlorine dioxcide= bullet proof reliable and little wait. Even so, boiling is faster and safer.

makes chlorine. saltwater, when electrolyzed makes, hydrogen, oxygen and Chlorine.
be very careful because chlorine can kill you. you would have to be very careless with that tool to hurt yourself but, it is possible.
