It simply is ridiculous to say, in the 2000s that anyone is reacting to the "gay issue" because it simply is "taboo" to discuss in public forums. That's projecting something pejorative onto your "opponent" (for lack of a better word), to set the stage as bigotry-based. Kinda like women who are 20-something who throw out, "oh, you just want us all pregnant and barefoot in the kitchen", fully aware no one under the age of 60 thinks that or lived that, or thought that, or was raised with that.
